Just Ordered iPhone 7 128Gb (Rose Gold) Online

Hello, this is my first post =] I would like to thank all of you for the information regarding buying iPhone online.

My iphone 5 is getting old, so I decide to get a new one. Have been thinking about getting on Apple AU (but too expensive comparing to other countries), MobileCiti (seen so many positive feedback, but I missed there last week 15% off promotion), BecexTech (some positive, some negative), officeworks (sold out)..

I decided to go for Dick Smith, it is now Kogan. I called and asked about the iPhone 7, the lady said it will be Hong Kong stock, sealed, come with a separate AU wall charger.
I personally don't mind the iPhone from Hong Kong, because I was born in HK, and a few of my previous iPhone were bought there.

I searched online, Kogan got some positive some negative feedback (although I have to admit I am worried as well, haha) But it is just so cheap. $999 for iPhone 7 128Gb plus $45 or 49 shipping fee, hopefully will get it by next Thursday. (The DS website promised to dispatch on or before Monday)

I have been searching online, people said
1. check IMEI on apple site to see the warranty
2. go to General > About > Model, starting with M means new, N means refurnished, in the middle should be ZP if this is Hong Kong stock. (AU stock is X, US stock is LL, China stock is CH)

I will come back and let all of you know after I receive the iPhone! If I got any false product, I will spread the msg to every forum in Australia to warn everyone.
:]

  • You will be fine. Kogan is a big company. Avoid bextech.

    • Thanks, I saw so negative comment about BxxxxTech as well..

Should've waited 2 months for the new model. :-(

    • I don't think my iPhone 5 can wait :( after I dropped my phone onto the floor, the screen fell off. I put it back :/ then some "lines" appeared, so I couldn't type some of the letters or buttons on my phone now…

buy a cheap android ;) and wait it out until the new iphone comes out. Get that or a cheaper and older model iphone

        • No, not Android.. Have been using iPhone for years, it's easier for me to stick with Apple and be a iFanBoy. I have thought about getting a cheaper model as well, but, still have to pay for that, buy a new case and a glass protector, maybe lazy to change my phone again (that's why I was still using iPhone 5, becuz it's still working), that's why i go for a newer model.

        • rumor has it that ip8 cost more than 1000 USD

        • @eagle90: so AUD1400? :o

        • +1

@eagle90: thanks for the link. The full screen display design has been rumored for two years?! Never happened :/ Btw, the rear camera design looks ugly that way :/ Suddenly feel like my iP7 is not that bad… hahaha

    • So to summarise - always buy the "best" for the "most" and therefore always get "the worst bargain."

  • Did you check if you need to pay gst? Not sure if the 1k threshold include postage. If so, i think you also need to pay a processing fee collected by the courier.

    • Hello, I bought from Dick Smith website, I went through the policies and conditions, it said we don't have to pay for GST, but I didn't ask why…
I often purchase clothing from JP, I have never got the tax prob..

  • I'm sure it'll be fine. But have you check the warranty cover?

Also, although its late to say this. For a model that will soon be replaced, you'd better off buying used phone. I recently bought a secondhand iPhone 7+ 128GB that is still mint with 2 year Apple warranty for $1000.

    • Hello, I haven't received the iPhone yet. I will check once it arrives. Thanks for your advice, I am not quite a secondhand person, maybe I have trust issue?! I have used old phones from my relatives, but for free, and I know them, so I don't have to worry it is a stolen phone.. LOL

      • The good thing about Apple product is they have great warranty cover. I always get top notch service from them (for example my screen had trouble on my iPhone 6 and they gave me brand new replacement with fresh 2 year warranty, then I sold it for $700 last month).

When you buy secondhand you can check the warranty cover online by entering the serial number, as long as its covered by Apple you're pretty much in a safe hand.

My concern with overseas purchase is you can't get Apple to serve you for warranty work and you may need to send it to the seller's independent repairer or some sort (could be interstate or overseas) to claim for it. Best to check whats your warranty involves

        • Authentic Apple devices purchased from places like Kogan are still covered by Apple's 1 year worldwide limited warranty, so you can still take them into an Apple store for warranty repairs, unfortunately they are not eligible for the extra year of warranty granted by Consumer Law.

        • @salbee28:
Yes, that's right. But I am not to sure what they cover.
I have been using iPhone for years, since 4s, (actually 3Gs, but only use for a few months) never sent back to Apple to fix…

    • you mean you paid more for a second hand phone than this guy did for a new phone??

      Uh…congrats?

      • Duh, its a different model..

  • "But it is just so cheap. $999 for iPhone" LOL
$999 for a phone is NOT cheap.

    • Sorry, you are right.. But what I actually mean is it is cheaper than other websites.

    • It's an outrage is what it is, a perversion of what is valuable in life.

      • thanks for the lesson I guess

  • Im on my second iPhone purchased from Kogan
Couldn't be happier with them. First one was iPhone 4s lasted me over 3 years
Current one is 6s had for about 2 years - totally recommend them

    • Thank you. My iPhone is dispatched from HK today, hopefully will get it by Tuesday!!!

  • +1

So I paid last Thursday, this is Tuesday, and the parcel is still stuck in Vic. I checked online, it takes 4 days to get to Sydney by Parcel Post. :( I paid $45 for shipping, why don't they just use SpeedPost. This is too slow.

  • iPhone5 and 7 are very different in terms of design and other function. You will be satisfied. Since you are getting a large storage phone, it will be a lots faster

    • Thank you. I am excited but also frustrated. I finally received an e-mail from AustPost regarding the estimated delivery date is this Friday :( Too bad… Why will it take five days to get from VIC to NSW
