    WARNING!

These shopping square cards are sent from Hong Kong/China.
Some of them are in generic plastic bubbles without retail packaging.

I bought some last time and I still do not know if they are real or fake.

Hong Kong (especially Ebay) is famous for fake branded and fake capacity memory cards.

Wouldn't go so far to imply that SS's cards are fake - I've bought a few and they always came in retail packaging for me. At the very least I can use 100% of the capacity

      • bought several times myself and always retail packaging, never any doubts for me

        • I've bought 2 in the past and they didn't come in retail packaging. Only came in the little plastic case in an envelope. But they were shipped within Australia. Can't verify whether they're fake or not but I'm pretty sure they're genuine. As bazza said, I can at least use all of the capacity and it's not like the transfer speed is ridiculously slow so I don't have anything to complain about.

    • Mine in the past have come in retail packaging as well.

        Oh really?

Then why did my Shopping Square cards all come from the land of fakes Hong Kong???

I believe the capacities are correct but real Sandisk????
No retail packing so how can I tell?

        • I did some HDBench benchmarks on a OEM Sandisk card and on a retail Sandisk card bought from DSE.

The results were the same — both had very similar read and write speeds, both had the same reported capacities.

So I'm quite convinced that the cards from SSQ are genuine, they just don't come packaged in pretty boxes. If you want the peace of mind, you can buy the overpriced cards from JBhifi or DSE instead…

    • I agree. I too have bought (from SS) two cards on two seperate occasions & both cards were sent without retail packaging.

    • +1

Totally agree. Last time there was $1 shipping, I used my voucher on a card, and it took more than two weeks for the item to reach me. It arrived in an envelope with HK stamps, and the card did not have retail packaging. There was only the card in a small plastic case, wrapped in a small strip of bubble wrap.

It would have been better if that had been clarified up front.

  • Perfect opportunity to use the free $20 voucher from a while ago…. except I find that my voucher has now expired and is nowhere to be seen in my account???? anyone else the same?

    • The voucher expired on 1st Sept if I remember correctly

To check if a memory card works and is the stated size use the Flash Memory Test program "h2testw". It is from the german computer magazine "c't". I have used it and it works.

    • -2

Yeah I checked the capacity, capacity OK.

      Real Sandisk? Have my doubts.

  • They'd go broke if they sold all their Sandisk cards for a $1

"Time to stock up more memory" lol.

Exchange go further up to $0.96 now, it’s time to stock up more memory.

    ?huh?
what does exchange rate have to do with buying memory card? does it mean its cheaper to buy memory cards now? why stock up memory cards ??

    • The prices of gadgets in Australia fluctuates in response to AUD currency exchange rates.

However the prices of memory tend to remain more stable than other gadgets like phones, mainboards, CPU's, graphics cards etc. so I would take the reps' advise with a grain of salt.

    • yeah it means it's cheaper to buy memory cards BUT only if the store passes on the savings (highly unlikely unless it's like msy, where prices changes a lot)

  • Any chance you guys will sell the SanDisk Blade?

  • +1

Where is the bargain? the price of the card is about standard sale price with $1 shipping

  • -1

Shipping - $1 due to the fact it only costs them the price of an envelope and a stamp.
No bargain here, the prices are the same you'd get from anywhere.

    • In retail packaging the cost to send an SD card will be more than a stamp due to weight and thickness

      • They have never been in retail packaging when i have ordered….simply taped to a piece of thin card inside an ordinary envelope

  • There original prices of the cards and USB stick seems to be overhyped. I bought mine 4gb SDHC from them last year at the same prices, as they are offering after discount. for example 4gb sandisk cruser says original price 30 AUD and now 15. they normally sells at 15.
Does not look like a bargain to me too.

  • the prices are nothing special c.f. staticice. Maybe the shipping is cheap, but (ironically) only if its local shipping, not HK->Aus shipping
