Eventually, we will be able to stay happy all the time, even in the most difficult circumstances.
An ordinary person may consider meditation as a worship or prayer. But it is not so. Meditation means awareness. Whatever you do with awareness is meditation. "Watching your breath" is meditation; listening to the birds is meditation. As long as these activities are free from any other distraction to the mind, it is effective meditation.

“Typically mindfulness practice involves sitting with your feet planted on the floor and the spine upright. The eyes can be closed or rest a few feet in front while the hands are in the lap or on the knees. The attention is gently brought to rest on the sensations of the body – the feet on the floor, the pressure on the seat and the air passing through the nostrils. As the thoughts continue, you return again and again to these physical sensations, gently encouraging the mind not to get caught up in the thought processes but to observe their passage.”

I WON'T BUY MEDITATION OR MINDFULNESS BOOKS THAT USE ALL UPPERCASE TITLES EVEN FREE ONES

Looks like the gal in he pic has some severe incontinence

But seriously, legs spread, sitting in water, low-cut-semi-seethru gear….should move a few copies

    • She's got short hair though.

I only like women with long hair

      • It looks tied up to me.

I'm having a panic attack thinking about all the meditation/mindfullness books I have in my Kindle account that I haven't looked at yet.

If you read Becoming Buddha in 30 Days, then
Sheldon B. Kopp's If You Meet the Buddha on the Road, Kill Him - issue solved? ;-)

Read Kopp's thought provoking book years ago.

If You Meet the Buddha on the Road, Kill Him - an old Zen Buddhist koan.

Lol… Seems someone is already challenged by the metaphysical question, with a neg as their answer ;-)

    • yeah was wondering why you got negged for that!!

Upvoted you in the name of equanimity

      • Ooh! Now no one else will ask that question until the next neg 😥 (Too late to revoke your vote.)

        Stuff equanimity SP!
It's all about the koan ;-)
        They can be confronting.

These are hard questions my mind has difficulty with. Sometimes a neg, or hitting a desk with a stick or open hand, is a very appropriate answer to a koan! Maybe the voter is far more advanced than me. Understanding the mind & motivation of an unseen Ozbargainer is beyond me. It's ultimately unimportant. So I just laughed 🙆

(I expended on the comment, after the vote, without changing the context apart from posing my comment more as a question ("?" added). Did that as some might not have understood the original context of the koan. Although that was still explained in the link to an interpretation. Always was presented in a light hearted way.)

  • Thanks OP. Good books to read.

I thought it took Budha more than 30 days to become Budha. How far have we come that we have a fast paced course to becoming Budha now.

  • I'm a noob to the meditation, yoga stuff, but can you do the mind thing without twisting your legs in uncomfortable ways? Not sure I can do that part.

    • +2

      of course you can

actually sitting cross legged is not only uncomfortable for many but can also cause joint problems. often it is a case of people preferring the 'zen' look over practicality.

I have done a couple of 10 day vipassana meditations…basically 10 days of meditation morning till night. It is quite easy to see those who have done it before. They bring lots of support cushions, chairs etc. Often newer ones start in the typical lotus position, but halfway through day one they give up all pretence of being 'enlightened' and are sprawled out, realising they are mere mortals wishing for day 10!!!

The main thing is to keep a straightish back with minimal support so you can breath comfortably and not drift off to sleep ;-)

      • +1

basically 10 days of meditation morning till night

So how did you feel after the whole thing, was it worth it or did it just feel like you were wasting time lol

  • ThanksOP
