Rheem Hot Water System install costs

I am looking into replacing a hot water in south east qld, electric to electric

what should be normal installation for a hot water system, as one place i contacted where i would have the system from where charging $1000 for a Rheem system, and they said it would be about another $1000 for installation

that seems rather high though.

whereas through DUX if you buy a system through bunnings you can get a $249 scheduled install or $299 same day install - extra parts that are not included with the unit are not included in the install price

  • Need a bit more info…

Are you changing from electric to gas?

    Are you looking at instant?

    • just a standard electric hot water system

      • Will it be like for like? As in no new wiring or pipe work?

  • In 2014 three quotes I received for a 50L Rheem supply and install with tempering valve were $740, $840 and $900.

  • Might be better to ask a local Rheem dealer for pricing and install cost.

  • $1000 seems a little high …. unless that $1000 is inclusive of an electrician as well?

i got a 250L Rheem Stainless installed back in january and it cost just under $1500 inc install. the tank on its own was somewhere in the 8-900 range [can't remember exactly and my invoice doesn't have a break down of the cost]. the install included delivery, removal of old, some new pipes and valves inc the tempering valve.

i had to pay an electrician separately though - but i can't tell you how much of that was solely for the connection as i had to have my line upgraded to code at same time.

  • I'm sure bunnings do supply and fit now. Try them

  • We recently had ours replaced too with a Rheem 125L - think this model retails for around $600 alone.
Quotes were between $1100 and $2300 including installation into an apartment, no electrician required - definitely call around

  • Plumbers tend to mark up the cost of the system and parts considerably. Having a electrician do the electrical is an additional cost as well.

Do your own research and get like for like. That is, the location of inlet/outlet and pressure relief valve as well as the wattage of the element. Purchase this yourself. You may also need a tempering valve if your system does not have one.

You will need to call numerous plumbers, because they tend to be expensive by overcharging the unsuspecting. Get approximate cost over the phone and someone with a restricted electrical license to avoid additional cost of an electrician.

Total cost should be $300 - $500 plus the cost of the system.

  • Try serviceseeking.com.au or similar website. One thing to note if you need new 3 phase power supply.

  • If its just a swap over tank then it should be only a 1-2 hour job plus parts. May charge for disposal ofbthe old tank also.so the DUX pricing sounds about right for install
