Just be aware of the current political climate in Qatar if you intend to fly via Doha!

    • +4

      Is it hot or freezing?

    • +7

I work here for an Aussie company and its business as usual ! Media seems to over hype a bit too much

    • +2

Was there yesterday, NO ISSUES, ALL normal, move on, no scare mongering here thankyou

      • +3

It's not scaremongering asking people to be vigilant. Did i say the sky was going to fall down or that you shouldn't go there? No. Like most places we travel, we should be aware of the current ongoings.

        • This applies to life in general.

        • Good point right there. My mother is from Syria and has family there so when we head down every couple years we obviously have to be cautious and know where we can and cannot go. Just because I never experienced anything dangerous myself does not make it a safe destination for anybody else. We all have to be pre-informed about certain places we plan to visit and temper our expectations before feeling a sense of remorse afterwards.

Yea would not recommend planning any flights via Doha for the moment….

Wait are you serious? I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with qatar, but there is a serious risk of FLIGHTS that you book being delayed or cancelled due to the possibility of flight path restrictions. How is that scare mongering? It's just a higher risk of some change happening, because the situation is in flux.

    • +6

Yeah don't go to the USA either heaps of political unrest there

Big protests in honkers last week too avoid like the plague

      Please….

There will be alot of discounts coming for Qatar airways. They are facing massive losses with all the flight path restrictions being placed on them by Saudi Arabia and co

    • +2

Agree. I reckon will see further discounts in the next few months if the situation remained the same. Qatar Airways will be pushing hard to increase its market share in the Asian and AU/NZ market.

Would not recommend taking notice of pathetic comments regarding not flying through Doha. Had a flight through Qatar this week, absolutely nothing to worry about!

    • +1

Been stalking their flights on google and all seem to be on time and schedule. So this makes sense.

I fly out in 2 weeks.

    • +3

Pathetic? I simply stated to be mindful of the situation. Never said don't fly there.

Guys, honestly its fine. Only hassle is going to Dubai, which use to take 45mins now takes 2 stops and 8 hours :( - have to do it once a fortnight its horrible

    • Do you work in mining?

      • he would work in oil id assume.

I few Qatar last year and know people who are flying with them in a couple months time. Airfares are quite cheap at the moment for obvious reasons.

As to flight paths and airspace closures, if you're flying to Europe it won't effect you. The flight will detour slightly around the UAE, but flying out of Qatar it's standard practice for flights to avoid Saudi air space. The flight path is along the Persian gulf, missing both Iraq and Syria before turning left over Turkey.

    • Your last line makes no sense… theres no "gap" between Saudi Arabia and Iraq that gives a direct flight to Turkey. THe only way to T from Q is via Iran and over the Caucasus.

      • The direct Great Circle route from, say, Doha to Paris is over Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, directly through the middle of Iraq and Syria before flying into Turkey. The flight takes the longer inefficient route over the Persian Gulf before flying over Iran and into Turkey. I flew this path last year.

        http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=DOH-CDG

        • You didnt read my reply, where i said its impossible for a directish route from Qatar to Turkey without passing thru SA or Iq, im not discussing the GCR or your trip last year. I was simply replying that your previous reply has errors.

        • @ninetyNineCents: Of course it's not possible to fly the shortest path (direct) from Qatar to Turkey without passing through Saudi Arabia or Iraq. I never said it was. Read my post again. I said flights already miss Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Syria. So a Saudi air space closure has no impact on onward flights.

You are commenting on errors that were never stated nor implied.

    Didn't like their inflight service.

Airport security scanner section in Doha was choc a block and then took ages with not enough stations open and crowdy banking up due to poor use of spaces in the transfer zone

Gate TVs also right there so big crowds around those TVs further slowing everyone down who comes from the security check and can't pass through easily.
    Really poor designed people flow.

Once you are through this then you arrive in very large gate area. That is ok.

I flew with them to England last month and the service was really bad there and back. They were understaffed and my luggage arrived 2 days later. I thought that Royal Brunei was better!

  • There's also up to 10% off Emirates flights if you have an entertainment book. I much prefer Emirates over Qatar.

  • For a limited time and for some fares you can get 12% off with a different code - see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/317996

  • Isn't it better to discuss how bad the Accor hotels loyalty program is?

Totally rubbish and pointless - they have a nerve charging for it.

10% off with Qatar just about sums them up.

  • Will be very interesting as the general public becomes aware of how many of these arsehole leaders in the middle east support terrorism.

SaudI Arabia has spent 70B GBP support and financing crazies around the world in the past 50 years, thats 10x more than the USSR spent in promoting communism during the cold war. THe SA arent the only ones, every stinking one of those gulf countries is also doing the same for the same reasons.

The only way those dictators stay in power is by using religion as a license to keep power, by labelling reforms such as western style democracy as leaving the proper islamic way. Fundamentalism today is paid for bu these countries because without it, their countries will reform and these dictators will be lynched eventually, just ask Gadaffi what happens when he lost power.

    • I'm sure some do in some ways, it can just be hard to know exactly who does what…

      • -1

What do you mean you arent sure ?

        Are you blind ?

Do you really think the Saudi gov gave away 70$B for fundamentalism and didnt expect any payback ?

Hey guys, just about to try and use this for my flight from Perth>Moscow. I have used the link and put the code in but it doesn't seem to change the flight price compared to if I don't use the link and don't use the code.

Does the d discount show up later on in the process of booking?

When I am searching though it does acknowledge a star with 'Accor Plus Promo' But on this page it doesn't apply the discount. See screenshot below; https://i.gyazo.com/64f3f4225ce7a334756345dd7b6e4ee8.png
