    Do deals ever count toward one way flights? I’d love to fly to South Korea and then leave from Japan.

      Open jaw are always more expensive- different airport taxes, fare class, currency conversions etc… all impacts price

        i was planning a family holiday trip to korea next year september. and fly to tokyo in between

        i checked adelaide to korea, around 30th oct, 4 business class, 2 adults 2 children, returned price is $18xxxaud
        checked again on 31st oct where singapore started to release 380,0000 discounted tickets, the price jumped to $20xxxaud
        checked 4 days later, price jumped to 24xxxaud
        checked it again today, price jumped to 28xxxaud

    Before you commit to buying tickets, check hotel prices first.

    Many of the flights listed are around cherry blossom season, and all the inexpensive hotels have been booked out for months.

    Saving a few hundred dollars on airline tickets isn't an overall saving if your accommodation will cost you many hundreds more.

    If you really want to see the cherry blossoms in Japan, and not pay a fortune, you should start looking for tickets and accommodation around June or July the year before, or even earlier.

      Yeah I got 700 return last year in the school holidays (which as a teacher is unheard of). I told my partner it would be a cheap Japanese trip as the conversion rate is way in our favour.

        Let me guess, you're only looking at the Sydney flights.

        For everyone else, cherry blossom season starts as early as January within 90 minutes of travel from Tokyo (at Atami), and continues until mid-April for Tokyo itself.

        Most of the flights listed are during that window.

    Seems like Perth to Tokyo on ANA is an overnight direct flight, while Perth to Tokyo on Singapore Airlines is a connecting day time flight for $200 less. 10 hours vs 14 hours

    Don't know about you guys but I'd choose the daytime flight without second thought, screw trying to sleep on a plane anymore

      For me I prefer the overnight flight. Personally sleeping in the plane even in economy is not a problem for me.

    It takes twice as long from Brisbane when compared with flying direct. It would be better to fly direct with Jetstar and it's actually a fairly decent flight if you bring a picnic to have mid flight haha.

    $821 flight turns into $1250 by the time I select seats and pay insurance add ons.

    Is there any way I can limit the oncost pile on?

    Travelling with my daughter so obviously can’t leave seating to chance. $50-$70 fee for each selected seat in the back of the aircraft is basically a shafting IMO.

      Sadly this is the way Singapore Airlines has gone, perhaps to appear competitive to Jetstar customers.

      I agree it sucks, I'd prefer to see the all-inclusive price up-front.

      I haven't seen insurance offered before, did you mean baggage allowance?

      check ur credit/charge card, most of the cards already include travel insurance so u don't have to buy insurance on top

      I suspect the reason the prices have dropped is because of the scarcity of inexpensive accommodation around the dates listed. The third-party sites likely purchased tickets in bulk roughly a year before the flight dates, now they're worried nobody will buy the tickets from them.
