What's the TV like though - sometimes comparing these cheap Soniq or Aldi TVs to even the Hisense - the former look blurry….

Have the lead levels been tested?

    • I've seen this type of comment on a few Aldi posts now - when does it get old?

aaahh yes, those heady and care free days of May 2017, before we lost our innocence to the onslaught of winter. when crops were destroyed, stock froze to death and the typhoid took the young, the old, the sick and the weak….

  • I don't think I have seen them sell a 60" 4k before? 55" 58" and 65" previously..

  • Band 28?

      Band 28.5

Unless the firmware has got significantly better, these TVs sell to the uninformed consumer who thinks every TV can be compared on paper by marketing metrics and that the cheapest 4K 60" is by default a bargain.

My grandparents have an older Bauhn and it is so slow to turn on that you might as well press power then go make a cup of tea. Same when changing the channel. The picture doesn't look anywhere near as good as it should either.

tldr, would recommend at least checking out the picture quality and input lag before buying.

    • In terms of the start up times, this is likely related to the under-powered processor on the earlier models of these - these should be better than those from a couple of years ago.

My main concern is the picture quality - where would you be able to check it?

      • +3

After you buy it. At home

        • -1

          And that's exactly my point.

    • That's the thing these 'mainstream' consumers don't understand. A 2160p/4K panel can only look as good as the TV's processor ability to upscale our low res signals we feed it, and these TVs have bare basic processors that don't really do anything at all but 'stretch' the image. The panel might make up 95% of the TV, but it's the 5% of the processor that really sets the 'cheap' apart from the 'good' and 'brilliant' TVs from big brands.

There's nothing wrong with buying a cheap TV, just don't be one of those guys who try to write off their friends and family for spending thousands more on the 'same thing', when in the real world - they simply don't even compare.

      • +7

Telling your family and friends they wasted their money on the same thing is lots of fun. You get to see the steam coming out of their ears.

      • Stretching the image is what upscaling is!
It can never make the image look better than native, only do a less bad job than an other upscaler.

  • Are the games included with the Xbox physical discs or download tokens?

    • Looks like both are physical.

    • Forza is a download token.

  • Hey reckon it's possible to give it a try for a good 30 days then return it if it's not any good? Tempted to give it a go.

    • There are enough reviews / YouTube videos for you to decide if you'll like it.

  • Wish we had better reporting on the these budget buy tv's. Even YouTube reviews don't have these models.

  • does the xbox bundle come with 3mth stan?

    • Nope.

  • Is TCL a better brand than Bahun ….? Right now this TV (I know its 10" smaller, but I am more interested in faster processor than large screen) from Bing Lee is $849 shipped using coupon PLENTY.

Can someone please comment on quality of TCL TV's if they have used this before?

    Thanks

  • i just brought the tv, can say out of the box i did not have to fiddle to get the right colour calibration as it seemed fine. i am however not using it for for tv, but as a gaming monitor. it does do 3840x2160 at 60hz native. therefore when not viewing 4k content, depending on how far away from the tv you are, the picture quality is stretched. that is easily fixed by resizing the media player. in my conclusion if you want a massive gaming monitor, this is the best you can get for the price point.

    • Are you sure it does 60Hz native? I was trying to get the 58" one with Google Chromecast Ultra. One store had 5-6 of them last weekend but when i went to get it yesterday it was all sold!

The 58" specs did list a 60Hz native panel but the 60" does not. The 58" also had a GTG of 12ms though not as good as the 65" at 6ms but the 60" had nothing listed.

Anyone seen any 58" stock in the stores around Brisbane?

  • Hey - does anyone know if JB/ EB will price match the Xbox deal? Completely sold out at bass hill/ villawood / bankstown stores.

    Thanks!

    • Heads up - JBHIFI won't price match. Some bs about if Aldi sells out they can't..

  • Anyone seen the 58" one that was on sale a few weeks ago in stores around Brisbane?

    • no, but saw 10 of these 60" at Kippa RIng today

      • Yeah, there were heaps in the Aldi stores… might have to get the 60" one and get the Google Chromecast Ultra separate I suppose… :(
