Philips Pasta Maker HR2342 $178.56 @ Myer eBay

190
CMYER

This is the slimline version of the Philips pasta maker that was released earlier this year.

It comes with shaping discs for spaghetti, fettuccine and penne.

This is the cheapest I've seen it, I picked one up for $201 about 6 weeks ago.

Works perfectly, easy to clean, highly recommended, more details at:

  • Fresh pasta worth it?

    • +2

      can you be bothered

      • +5

No, Nor would I eat the garbage I make.

        • +5

Learn to cook. It's the second most useful skill you'll ever learn.

        • @nhand42: Whats the first?

        • @dylanando: To (profanity). If you can't you're doomed!

        • @Bunnyburger: I reckon fresh pasta should be shoved between number 1 and 2 slots. People are really selling it on here

        • @Bunnyburger: >To (profanity)

          You meant run right?

        • +2

@Diji1: Precisely. Nothing like dashing from your foes into the open sunset!

    • +3

Yes, but you can buy fresh pasta from the local deli.

Most people use these machines a few times for the novelty but then it collects dust.

      • You're selling it.

      • +6

does it collect dust better than a dyson

  • +1

I bought a pasta making machine from Kmart or Target for $15. I am not sure what the additional benefits are from this machine.

    • -1

Ask the same question in 13 months time.

    • +1

<sigh> I bought one from Kmart too - loved it. And it died on me after about a month - using it once or twice a week. I'm now really missing it, and that cheap $15 deal is now making me consider spending another $178…… Just not sure if I can justify spending that much on something that only a short time ago I never would have even considered….

  • How do these match up against the Atlas 150 pasta makers?

    • +2

Extrusion vs roller - different type of machines, better for making different styles of pasta.

This will be better for making extruded style pastas that you can't do in a roller, obviously.

      • +4

Cool! time to google what's rolled pasta and extruded pasta.

        • +1

          How'd you go?

I've been waiting for a decent bargain on the Wellness 150 4 piece set and now I'm considering the ALDI version of the extruder that goes on sale tomorrow for $129

Marcato also do an Atlas Extruder so I too have wondered what the benefits are as Marcato offer both a roller and extruder product

        • +1

@oz-stef: Well it arrived here. I may not use it but at least Myer has a 30 day return thing. but at the price I think I can keep it. It's a solid pasta maker after all

  • What's the difference btw this and HR2358, any idea? please

  • +3

I have the bigger version, got given it as a gift 2 years ago. Thought I would never use it but have used it at least twice a week since I got it. Super easy to use and clean. Haven't bought packet pasta since I have had it. Also makes awesome noodles for stir fry. I really only use the spaghetti, the penne doesn't seem to come out the best. If you eat pasta I would highly recommend it. It tastes a million times better.

    • +2

Yep same here. Fresh tastes better, it doesn't take long to make (by the time the water is at a boil the pasta is ready to cook). Machine is pretty foolproof. Each to their own but it was one of those purchases I didn't make that surprisingly I use all the time.

  • do the disks from the earlier models work on these?
    Ramen is a must!

    • I need to know this too, I have bought all of the disks available here, and even got a couple of rarer ones that aren't, from Amazon USA. I find the old machine too big to prep for one person. Defeats the concept of "fresh" if it is making twice as much (or more) than you need.

  • I have one i never use. I guess it can make all bread doe also but hey some love em. I don't like the consistency of fresh pasta

    • +1

      Is that like John Dough?

  • Must have for everyone.. buy it

  • Is this machine any better than the HR2358/06, or is it just a smaller, cheaper version? Also keen to know if the noodle discs for the 357 work on this if anyone knows, thanks.

    • Not sure why negged without any comment?

    • Will buy the Ambiano over the Philips because it has 10 extruding discs, 60 days free trial and 2 year warranty for $129.

      • @PW, Where is it mentioned about the 60 days free trial?

        • All ALDI electrical goods come with a 60 days no question asked refund.

        • @PW: Thank you. I thought that if the item is opened and used then it cannot be returned.

        • +1

Make sure you cleaned and packed them nicely before returning it. The product must be in a resalable condition otherwise they can refuse to refund you.

  • Is it difficult to use? Similar models have reviewers saying that it is very difficult to get the mixture right and often the pasta never "extrudes".

    • +3

The first few batches always seem to come out great when using these machines. Then people become complacent and don't measure the ingredients as accurately and end up with problems. The ratio of wet to dry is really important, and using a measuring cup isn't ideal. Flour can pick up moisture in the air and make the whole mix too wet for example. This occurs if the bag has been opened and not sealed in a airtight jar, or is older stock. Also you can have the cup too lightly packed or too densely packed to fill to a specific capacity. For this reason, you should weigh the ingredients with a digital scale for best results, not measure it in a cup. I also do this with the breadmaker. Once you can get the correct ratio you will get great consistent results. If the mix is too dry or too wet it won't extrude properly. Then you are continually chasing your tail trying to fix it, adding a dash more water, then a pinch more flour, then more water… you never get it right and the problem persists.

      • Thanks a lot @endotherm for the detailed reply. I had given up after reading some other reviews. After reading your comment, I am planning to buy it tonight.

  • +2

I measure by the cups provided. Only ever stuffed it up once at the very start by adding too much water. Always make it drier, it absorbs the water anyway when you cook it and it's actually nicer if you make it a bit drier. Half fine semolina, half flour filled nice and full but not knocked down in the cup, and just under 95ml water/egg. Perfect every time. Would have easily made it over 100 times without fail. For the noodles, 90ml water and full cup of flour. Simple as.

    • Thank you @div.

  • Do the attachments like these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Philips-HR2401-06-Chinese-Noo… work for this machine, or only the expensive one?

I can't seem to find any additional attachments just for this machine?!?

    • +1

The instruction manual makes reference to disks and a cleaning stick that go in the tray underneath, and say "not yet released". As this machine came out after the larger one, and those disks would have already been available, I think it suggests there will be special ones for this machine. Seems silly, but I don't know why they would print that in the manual otherwise.

  • Looks like the double discounting has ended on this item. Only the standard ebay myer 20% is left.
