Allianz Upped The Excess, Lowered The Value and Increased The Premium On Car Insurance Renewal

I usually get new quotes every year and then get insurers to match it.

Anyone got any recent experiences with discounts/better online offers etc?

It's a 2013 Ford Focus.

Aaaallianz, 'yes Allianz car insurance, how can we increase your premiums'.

    Sorry bad joke.
    I don't have a car, I don't even have a license (I'm to frugal, I use public transport.
The only thing that I can suggest though is to Google car insurance comparison sites, go though a few sites when you find a few good deals give the company a ring asking if they will go lower/match your previous coverage?

  • Lower value and higher excess usually means lower premium. In your case they have managed to put up the price 3 times in one go! It looks like a "win win win" situation for Allianz…

Far out this is like the 3rd thread in 3 days of "my insurance has gone up find me a cheaper price pls"

Why cant everyone just get their own quotes like a normal person? Its going to be different for everyone because everyone has unique circumstances.

  • Go to their website and get them to price beat themselves, I bet your renewal price is much higher than their online quote for new customers.

    • No, came in the same online and they 'couldn't' wouldn't lower it on the phone. I do the new business test on line and it's worked in the past esp with householder ins.

      • Have you tried a different browser or next door street address? Would be interested to see if they are doing some existing customer matching some how.

      • Try a different browser like John Kimble said. Did you move to a new address or started to park your car outside? All that affects your insurance price. Don't be tempted to "cheat" though, because if you said you park inside your garage, they might deny your claim if a tree fell on it or something.

You could try one of the insurance comparison sites…….

Yes, :) Put in the house next door and a different email to my normal, but otherwise all true info. One year, when the house next door was cheaper and I got the cheaper price online, and rang up to ask for that price, I said it must have been a typo. She allowed it.

I'll try a diff browser. EDIT - $4 more on line.

  • Tried Coles (or Woolies) - best deal I ever got.

  • The same thing happened to me. Left them.

  • I got a quote from Allianz yesterday and it was $300 higher ($700 v $400) than the RACV. It was from a Ford dealer acting as an agent for Allianz. As much as possible it was an apples to apples comparison. However, I have a load of loyalty discounts with RACV (47 years as a member, rating 1, and multiple policies) so that may make up some of the difference.

RACV insurance is not available in NSW but NRMA may be worth a try. They both are agents for the same organisation (IMA - Insurance Manufacturers Australia) which I believe that they jointly own.

  • Ditch them. Not sure about other States but I think RACWA has a deal where they will beat your renewal notice by 10%, although not much good if you renewal has gone up by more than 10%…
