Samsung Gear VR V2 (SM-R323NBKAXSA) down to $48 - OfficeWorks (Limited Stock) [In-Store]

190

*Until Sold out so be quick! (In Store only until sold, Clearance item)

This is the SM-R323NBKAXSA model (2016). touch pad on side of unit, but newer than my mates who has a R232 (older type touchpad)
***Comes with a USB-C adapter. (Samsungs own web site does not mention this and their model numbers are a bit confusing)

These were $68 yesterday. Today $48. Thankfully OW's refunded my difference this morning.

These ones have controller built into the head unit on the right. Not sure if hand held controllers for sale are compatible.

Great VR set for $48 if you have a compatible phone…

  • I clikced on link it was available clicked add to cart, sold out. That was quick.

  • in store only I think.

    Best ring your local…

    • Yeah only in-store now limited stock.

      • Cheers mate, updated my post to clarify.

    • Is it not R323 (as opposed to R232 as stated in your Title). Also, thank you. :-)

      • This is not the second gen headset. This one has a microUSB port. Version 2 has a USB Type-C port.

      • +1

It is the 2016 one (the second version as I understand it) not the latest one.

        OW Part No. says… SM-R323NBKAXSA

        Thanks, corrected info.

        • +1

          Cheers Hotchips :-)

          From Wikipedia
The SM-R323 model was released alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, and features minor changes, including an improved field of view, increased cushioning, a flat trackpad, and changes to the cover and body of the device to reduce glare. The model also utilizes USB-C connector instead of USB Micro-B so that it could be connected to the Note 7. The port is also capable of data transfer. Adapters are provided for use with older devices using micro USB connectors. On October 11, 2016, in observance of a recall and discontinuation of the smartphone, the Gear VR was made incompatible with the Galaxy Note 7 for safety reasons.

        • Beware! Mine did not come with the USB-C connector. Did everyone else's?

  • Does it only work with Samsung phones?

    • Look at the specs link. Gives a list of phones.

  • I have one of these and they work quite well for a VR experience from a phone. In my opinion, the hand controller is a must have especially if you are playing alot of shooting games.

  • Will these fit an S8? Can't find it in the list of supported phones, but the S8 is smaller than the S7E so it should fit?

    • No I don't think so, the main thing is the connecting adapter. The S8 one has a USB C connector where these have a micro USB

      • :(

        Thanks for your input though!

        • it comes with a USB-C type adapter.

      • Plenty of reports around online that it does work (as this comes with a interchangeable plug), but that it's not as optimal as the more up to date 2017 model.

    • I have this exact model and confirm it works with the s8 (not sure about the s8 plus). The only things miss out on is the wireless controller.

    • I have s8+ and it works great.

      • Can you let me know how you got it to fit? I purchased one today and it has a white micro to USB-C adaptor but the plug in the headset to attach to your phone is micro only.

        • The one I got also had the white adapter but the main adaptor on the headset is usb type c so I just put it in without using any adaptors.

  • Don't flame me but i still have a note 7 (from the replacement batch not the original unit) would this work on my phone?

    • Yes it will but I would not recommend it. Using the VR headset causes your device to get warm and quite hot if used for an extended period of time. The hotter your Note7 gets, the greater chances of your battery becoming a ticking bomb.

    • "Don't flame me"… uhh… I don't think it's US you need to be worrying about…

  • 4 left in Woolloongabba, QLD Office works… Just checked. Got one !!!

  • Nothing in SA

  • Waiting for standalone vr

  • 2 left at Browns Plains. Just picked one up .

  • Thanks op got one.

Can anyone recommend what are the some of the must have apps or videos for this?

    • Basic but enjoyable - search for '360' or 'VR' in YouTube for lots of videos like flying in the cockpit of a fighter jet or 747, sit in a Lamborghini, go snow skiing, visit Japan or another destination, see a concert. Change the quality to Max Res and watch on WiFi. My son likes to look at giant dinosaurs in 360. You'll need to stand or have a swiveling chair.

      • Thanks for this @HeavenlyHammocks!

Also, there is a great little Dunkirk 3D trailer. The Apollo 11 app is a bit expensive for what it is, but does thoroughly entertain (at least me) and take you through - with actual voice recording, the mission to the moon split into segments. A real sense of the clostrophobia the astronauts must have felt was evident.

A free Rollercoaster had my wife screaming and my daughter giggling.

That's just from poking around the menu's.

  • Thanks op, got the last one in officeworks glebe.

  • Albury has plenty if anyone is interested.

  • If you have the Samsung Galaxy 5/6/7, it really is a must for OzBargainers. WELL worth the $$$ for the fun.

  • None left in Nunawading :(

  • Ok so this does come fitted with both micro usb and usb c connectors. An S8 fits through it's slightly loose and not a snug fit.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a controller?

    • Can you please confirm that yours came with both connectors? Mine only came with the micro connector.

  • The unit had a usb c connector fitted and there was an interchangeable microusb connector in a bag, together with a micro to usb c converter.

    • Thank you. Mine must have been an older one. Could you possibly send me a photo of the two connectors so I can show O/W when I return it?

      • +1

Just return it and let them know it's missing the usb type c adaptor. They are pretty good on returns.

        • Done and done. Some boxes had them and some didn't. It's indicated on the side of the box we discovered.

  • West Gostford store still has 6 in stock.
