Stay away from these! Netgear orbi is having too many issues with this device. its basically still under beta…The Orbi community forum are filled with firmware issue rated posts. I already had to RMA my device because the support sent me a corrupt beta firmware. Had to pay the delivery to warehouse …

    • I've had mine for a while now and they have been fantastic. No issues - super easy setup and fixed my wireless range issues. Speeds and range are awesome. YMMV i guess…

      • Lmao

Well for the people who are going to buy it, the warning is here…Tomshardware article is complete bullcrap, go for an EERO instead. The orbi does not do what it is marketed to do. A beta firmware is released once per week by Netgear support, it's basically a beta hardware..
Oh and goodluck thinking that you can disable automatic firmware updates, because Netgear has disabled the option. Other thing that annoys me is that the 2.4gh and 5gh band stays on one SSID, this confuses the hell out of wireless devices….No plans to change this according to Netgear.

Like I said, YMMV. I was simply stating that I've had no issues with my units - in fact the opposite. No one is forcing anyone to buy it mate. There are plenty of complimentary reviews online regarding the Orbi product as well. Most people shelling out the considerable cost for such a device are likely to do their research first anyway I'd suspect. I think a blanket statement saying that they are rubbish or flawed simply isn't true. Sorry to hear your experience wasn't satisfactory.

@bennyboy: Comments like these leads people like me to go buy one and instant regret. Just neg.

          @supaderp:

Send me a router that doesn't have forums full of issues. I have had an Orbi system for about 5 months and its been spot on but I understand that there may be flaws i just haven't really experienced any. range and speed has been awesome. Eero looks great too

        • If you're going to a customer support forum, of course all you're going to see are posts of people with issues. What you don't see is the people who don't have issues. It's going to look skewed if that's your source.

        • To be fair, you can disable the auto download of firmware.

"Use the telnet method to edit nvram settings or set a block rule to downloads.netgear.com to stop it"

      • Is it meant to connect to your existing router, or is it meant to replace the router?

My router is factory configured to my ISP. They do not provide me settings to configure my own router.

  • Some of the 1 starts Reviews give me pause: Obviously has some firmware issues

    • To be fair, that is one linked poor review from what is overwhelmingly positive feedback - 82% positive of over 1900 reviews. Like all products, some users will experience issues. I had the ever popular Asus ac68u previously and had nothing but issues with it. Poor speeds, range and constant drop outs and restarts. I know others have had no such issues and it has performed well for them.

  • Can you explain this to me? Trying to figure out why it's expensive.

Is it meant to replace my existing router? Or is it just a range extender? It's a lot of money for a router + range extender combo.

I know they are trying to distinguish themselves from being a 'range extender' by saying you move between bands and devices seamlessly, but functionally, it is still a range extender, correct? That is its purpose?

What does it do better than a range extender? Do you get two of them in the box?

Without antennas, how good is its signal? Also, they look huge. How is it better than standard range extenders? Does it penetrate walls and distance better somehow?

If it's not meant to replace my router, then that's two extra devices needing cables, desk space, and power. Not interested.

Sydneytec & Shopping Express Clearance both stores are selling the same price $585.

Why are they clearing them out? Is there a new model replacing it?

I believed they will jacking up the price to $619 later on.

How do you know they will be jacking the price up? And how do you know the exact price?

Does it work best if you have 2Ghz and 5Ghz bands on the same SSID or separate? I ask with respect to devices roaming and auto-selecting the best band.

  • Expired but same price available with PLAYER.

  • Well shit. I bought it, got it today and only just realized there's no port for the phone.

How do I get my phone from this? Do I still need my existing router from the ISP?

    • +1

Yes…This is a router, not a modem router

      • Neither is the one my ISP supplied me. It's just a router. The modem is supplied by NBN.
