Read an interesting news article this morning: Apparently this $89 vacuum cleaner gives the Dyson a run for its money
    http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/home/interiors/the-89-vacuu…

    • about to post the same, gonna buy the kmart one to compare myself.

You realise that's just an advertisement for Kidspot, it's owned by Newscorp?

      • +1

Why do people find it so hard to discern advertising from reality these days?

      • +1

You do realise it's not hard to get a vacuum that is better than dyson right? Admittedly this is just an ad, but still may stand it sucks more than a dyson.

Thanks for proving my point by negging me :)

        • I made no judgement of the vacuum itself, just the blatant and shameless promotion by News Corp.

        • @Scab: So whats News Corp got to do with Kmart?

        • I didn't neg you?

        • +2

          @D6C1:

Nothing, but Kmart aren't the ones "reviewing it" Kidspot is.

There's no detailed review of what is good and bad about the product or how it compares, just shameless promotions and anecdotes from a couple of users.

The worst was this line written by the author, who is from Kidspot: "And it sells for just $89, according to Kidspot".

She couldn't just come out and say it's $89 from Kmart, no, it's $89 according to Kidspot and with a hyperlink.

The entire page gives no insight into the vacuum itself, just trying to funnel people to the website.

I take it about as seriously as I do News Corp.

Well I just got the mother in law to pick one up for us. For $89 it's worth trying anyway, and can't be much worse than our current cheapo vacuum. I'll report back with factual results once I've tried it out.

      • Following for updates.

Dont let us down nytrojen :)

        • You may have to wait a while - I'm only picking it up from the MIL on the weekend :P

        • Well I just got home with the vacuum and my initial first impression is that this thing is fantastic for the price! Comes with several attachments and it's really powerful while also being much quieter than our Electrolux. I'll do a more in depth review once I've had more time but for the price you really can't go wrong! In 30 seconds of trial vacuuming it had already picked up heaps of dirt, definitely more than the old one could do.

The only negative is the slightly short power cord and the fact it's not Auto racing

        • @nytrojen: Awesome, thanks man, looking forward to your in depth review!

        • +1

@SympleService: So I had a chance to use it properly on the weekend, and here's my thoughts

          • Decently powerful (a LOT more powerful than my crappy old electrolux, but that's not saying a lot)
          • Motorised head works well on both thick carpet and tiles (there are 5 different height settings)
          • Comes with a mini motorised head which is good for small rugs etc, but the plastic comb would scratch car upholstery if you're not careful. The suction tube is relatively short though.
          • A lot of my complaints are inherent to the cons of an upright vacuum in general - relatively bulky and heavy for smaller people (my wife would struggle to carry it up the stairs)
          • The power cord is short, but using it with a 10m extension cord worked well for my house. Also doesn't auto retract (wind it around a couple of lugs)
          • It's actually a LOT quieter than I though it would be (much quieter than the electrolux), but does seem to have the kind of "digital motor whine" similar to my Samsung fridge
          • The design is decent, and the build quality is good in general, but the plastics do feel a bit cheap. Not sure if it'll last more than a couple of years
          • It sucked up a LOT more dirt and dust than I'd ever seen my old vacuum do! Not wanting to sound like an overreacting housemum, but it was pretty surprising how much dust was in the downstairs carpets alone!

Keep in mind I'm by no means a vacuuming aficionado. We were just looking for something better than our crappy vacuum and didn't want to pay Dyson prices. I'm pretty happy with it and don't think you can really go wrong for the price

        • @nytrojen:

Thanks for the review, it is appreciated.
Sounds like a good inbetween while waiting for dyson prices to go down.

However I think Kmart has sold out of them until like middle of august so my house will have to remain dusty until then :/

    • To be fair that is not a comparison against the Dyson Stick vacuums but rather their standard ball roller ones.

I got the V6 Absolute from a previous sale. Havent been as disappointed with a purchase in a long time(my own fault). I read that people said it does not replace a normal vacuum but I just wanted to vacuum wooden floors I thought. :) Its suction power sucks, if it did not have a motorised head it wont be able to suck up most things from the floor, its more of a powered broom. As a test there was a piece of dried onion skin on the kitchen floor, so I removed the head and tried to suck it up via the extension pipe, it just picked it up but could not suck it into the pipe! It is however very convenient to do a quick vacuum of the house but I need to run it on "Turbo". :) I saw Godfreys has some of these Dyson`s to compare with other vacuums, do yourself a favor and go and test before buying.

    • Did it suck it up your test onion skin in "Turbo" mode? Genuine question; as if it can do good spot cleaning but has to be in Turbo, then I think people can handle that if they buy it as a general quick spot cleaner only.

I still hope hardware companies get on-board at some stage and have 18V or 36V cordless stick vacuum skins.

      • yes :)

  • Bought an Animal - thanks OP!
