      OK who's lying?

      Floating Hinge
Maintains even pressure on your sandwich for even toasting, and allows you to toast thicker sandwiches, wraps and snacks.

Floating hinge = height adjust = You're wrong!

      • +3

        Nope, wrong.

        • -6

Locking height adjustment =/ height adjustment

Maybe be more specific next time and I would be wrong :)

        • +2

@Spackbace: It does actually. Otherwise you could say that anything that can be flipped up or opened has 'height adjustment'. At the end of the day this thing is still going to squish your sandwich.

          @Orpheus:

Any spare votes left? You know coz that's what you do if you're losing an argument…

As I said, be specific with your questions and it doesn't make you out like an idiot.

It's pretty easy to use slam toasters like these and not crush a sandwich. Croissant on the other hand would go flat, but you specified sandwich so we're going with that.

          Sounds more like user error…

@Spackbace: I have this and it does not have height adjustment. It squish little bit. Height adjusted ones are a little expensive.

        • +3

          @Spackbace: So you're saying I can't use a toaster? :P

The top of the machine is weighted so without locking the weight of it crushes the sandwich as it cooks. Apart from that it is a brilliant machine but I would definitely not buy a machine in future without a locking function. It's so damn annoying.

Depending on how much you pack into to the sandwich, it tends to turn into a wedge, so I usually cook it half way then spin it 180s degrees so it is crushed evenly

has a floating hinge not height adjustment ….. so you can put in thick sandwiches but the weight of the top plate will flatten them ……..height adjustable presses have a mechanism that lets you set the height so that your sandwiches don't get flattened………they have models with the height adjustment but they cost more …..

        • +1

@Spackbace: lol do you always interpret everything so literally? Its still misleading to tell others you can control the height with this thing, because you can't.

        • @Orpheus: You can if you hold onto it! :P

    • +1

I can vouch for this- definitely doesn't have a height adjustment. Totally sucks- eg anything open top (like Pizza) is a no go.

Reading this argument about a sandwich toaster hinge has made my day. However, now it has made me want to buy a sandwich toaster with a proper height adjustment. Does anybody have a recommendation?

  • any feedback
    thanks

  • Excellent piece of kit, so far I have not found anything that wont just wipe of with a damp sponge/cloth after you have finished, cooks to perfection, thick or thin bread, top latches shut for storage and it has cable storage, I just wish we had bought one earlier :)

  • I have it, not so good, has no power button so need to use mains, burns stuff easy

But for the price it's pretty good

As for height adjustment you have to fiddle a bit with the placement of the sandwich bit it's very flexible in size

    • How does it burn stuff? Its a 1800w fixed temperature unit, warm up first and then 3 to 3:30 minutes (depending on bread) works to perfection every time.
I just tell my phone to remind me in 3 minutes, never had anything remotely burnt.

      • I would assume marchi just leaves his food in there and forgot about it..

Most modern toasting and grilling appliances like these don't have timing chips (they are too cheap for that), they just use a capacitor charged through a resistor, and once a specific voltage is reached it shuts off, and thats when you get the green light telling you the toasting is done.

The capacitor is then discharged, and then the cycle repeats again.

They've been trying to flog this thing off for ages, and still no takers.

It's too small. Faaaaaaaar too small. They've bought a crap load of them thinking there are stacks of muppets out there who only eat one toasted sanger. Nup. You can't just stop at one, and anyone with half a brain (or appetite!) would never buy this girly machine.

Spending a little more and get something far more pleasing to the stomach and less frustrating to use. Seriously, go look in the store at how small this thing is. Terrible.

Don't be a girly man… buy a proper sandwich press. Noooooooowww!

    • +2

You can get two sandwiches side by side on it, I do it all the time :)

I'm talking Ozbargain Approved Cheapest White Bread <tm> - If you're using that mega fat wide bread then two sangas won't fit side by side

    • Don't be a girly man… buy a proper sandwich press. Noooooooowww!

You must mean a cast iron model, surely?
Not those with toxic non-stick surfaces.

    • fits the long turkish rolls fine …….. i have a small and a big press….. small press get used most as i,live on my own and the big unit when i have visitors and need to feed 2 people.

  • Bought this about 3 years ago. Best investment EVER.
Easy to clean and heats up quickly.

  • Is this likely to be reduced on their ebay store as well? It's still $44 on there currently.

  • Recommended people just buy a 4 slice size from the get go.

You can't make jaffles with a sandwich maker, needs a different type of plate that edge seals .. :-( .. !!

  • Thanks OP! Bought one for the in-laws. I think this would do the trick for 2 elderly people!

  • +6

    You can make jaffles

Lies, a jaffle is molded into triangles!

Pop some pineapple in there (like a Hawaiian pizza), and then scream like a school girl when those lava hot juices run down your chin and onto your hand. I'm surprised I don't have Bond Villain scaring down my face from my childhood! I loooooovvvved Hawaiian jaffles… god I'm hungry now :(

  • +1

No height adjustment! It totally sucks. Even jamming a utensil to increase the height (eg knife) is pretty hard. I don't recommend this, if you want to cook anything "open top" (eg pizza)- it's useless

  • Thanks bought one

  • Thanks, bought one.
