Car Rental Excess Insurance

I read a post on OzBargain maybe 3-4 months ago recommending a company that offers insurance for domestic car rental excess.

It seemed like a good deal but I can't remember the name of the company. Any ideas or recommendations for such a product?

Thanks

  • Medibank offers it on their individual domestic insurance (up to 3k but you can add more)

    • Yeah I was looking at that (I would like to add more). But I'm only renting for a couple of days and remember seeing a recommendation from somebody. It seemed very economical as you could just specify the days you were renting.

I use them all the time.

    • +1. There are plenty out there though.

Take out travel insurance as most policies include hire car insurance

  • https://www.1cover.com.au/car-rental-excess-insurance/ is another option.

    Covers for more stuff too

Just google car rental excess cover for other options

  • word of warning car rental excess cover is only ever as good as the rental's insurance itself e.g. common damages like windscreens/tyres won't be covered by the car rental's basic insurance and hence rental excess cover is useless..

  • If you have a credit card and actually pay the hire cost with the card, some CC providers actually provide cover for the excess amount under their rewards program. Limits would apply so check with your CC provider.
