Which Taxi Company in Sydney Has Child Seat?

Hi,

We are going to International terminal in couple weeks and because we travel with our 7 month baby would need to hire taxi or shuttle with child seat fitted.

Anybody know a company in Sydney they can recommend?
Thanks:)

I always assumed taxi's are exempt from having a child seat fitted. Maybe I am wrong?

    • they are exempt and they won't have any for you to use

WRONG! In NSW the law for children 6-12 months is the same for all vehicles. Taxis are NOT exempt! By law the Taxi companies must have 10% of their fleet fitted with child restraints and they must provide them on request, (when booking).

It used to be for kids over 12 months, we always requested a child seat anyway when we got a taxi, I'm not willing to put a young child in the back of a taxi without a child seat.

  • Well, I didnt know that. What options people travelling with babies have? We are going for 5 weeks , I don't want to leave my car at the airport and pay for parking.

      carry child on you lap…..

the exemption means it's no offence to have the child not restrained

      • Is it no illegal carry child like this? Plus not very safe obviously.

      • Don't give false information, especially if means potentially risking the life of children.

        • oops - my bad

          OP is in NSW

i was wrongly giving info for VIC

Maybe an Uber driver has one?

    • nope, they don't carry them.

When you call to make a taxi booking, request a baby seat. Taxi fleets have a minimum required number of baby seats available.
Child seats are only exempt for taxis if the child is older than 12 months. The same child seat rules apply to children under 12 months.

Wouldn't it make sense to bring your own child seat especially if you're going overseas.

Like renting a car, you got your own seat for the child or waving down a taxi at the destination airport to go to your hotel etc. I know the child seat is another excess baggage but its your child's life too.

Also when you come back you can just into any taxi or Uber and use your own child seat.

  • If you use shuttle bus, most if not all of them have the option of child seat. You do need to let them know when you're making a booking.

    Train?

    Friends/family?

    • No one catches a cab to airport in Sydney if they have friends / family that can help, it costs a fortune. My guess is OP has a flight leaving on a weekday

Can you buy a mate a slab and have them drop you off?

  • I was in exact same situation a couple weeks ago, overseas at the moment with my 10 month old. All the major taxi companies should have them, I called Apple taxis and told them I need a forward facing child seat, didn't cost anything extra.

  • I wonder why taxis can be exempt from child seats. That really means that at least some of the times the law is willing to put children at risk.

  • You could hire your own child seat?

  • When you book ask for a taxi with a child seat

  • Maxi Taxi or buy a cheap Kmart one and use Uber

  • Depending where you live, airport shuttle van is usually a decently priced option. We are on the northern beaches and have used a very good company every time we have travelled overseas. Costs us $150 for 3 of us for a return trip from Dee Why to the airport and he has a child seat installed for our daughter when we request it at booking.

  • Thanks. Yes probably we will be taking either maxi taxi or shuttle bus or bubstaxi.

  • I went to Bali last year and had a fantastic experience with a service called Sydney Baby Taxi because they not only had child seats but they also had a baby capsule. We were in a group of 6 with 3 children under 5.

We were able to fit everyone in one of their vans and had a rear facing capsule and 2 child car seats. It was so easy because there was no waiting around, the seats were already set up and the driver was waiting for us when the plane arrived. The kids (and parents) were all pretty grumpy and tired by the end of the long flight so it was so good to just get in the car and go home.

It is a bit more expensive than your usual taxi company but that's because they have prestige cars (ours was a Mercedes that was practically new)with new and clean child car seats. Our driver was lovely and the kids had a great time with him joking around. We would definitely use them again. I couldn't have been happier with the service. Considering we could take 6 of us in the minivan, it was actually great value.

  • If your child is over two years you can put your child in regular seat but that has to be a taxi. If not a taxi then rule is any child under 8 years of age must be seated in an approved child restraint , that's for NSW. Most maxicabs have child seats but some of the driver's don't know how to install it properly or seats are too dirty. I have used Bubs Taxi and Advance Maxi Taxi . Both offers excellent service. But if you need bigger van and two or three seats then Advance Maxi is way to go as they offer free seats and cheaper then Bubs Taxi. But if you want luxury Mercedes then Bubs Taxi of course , but luxury comes at a price ;)
