What Do You Guys Think of The New Mercedes Benz X Class Ute?

Just out of curiosity I want to know what your opinions are on the new X class UTE that got unveiled.

A Ute is usually aimed towards tradies and all but I don't see why tradies would purchase a "premium" work vehicle over $50k (for a work horse spec) as they travel a lot which accelerates the depreciation which is one factor. And We all know that European cars depreciate crazy and I don't see why anyone would purchase the X class Ute over a Hilux, Triton or a Navara.

The funny thing is that the car is based on a Navara also and the vehicles main competitor is the Volkswagen Amarok which doesn't sell in numbers which tells me that the X class won't sell as much either and may god help you when it comes to servicing or repairing those two vehicles.

What I want to know is whats your opinion? and if there are any tradies out there would you ever consider this vehicle?

Anyway that is my two cents,

IF I was a tradie, and loaded with money, I would get the best Navara for work, and buy another fancy/expensive car for the weekend/when not working.

A neighbour had a reno done with a fancy builder. During the week it was a top o line Ford Ranger with all options. He dropped round post construction on the weekend with an AMG Merc (the weekend car).

tradies really do make a killing.

Australian model options: a roo bar, 6 foot CB aerials, oversized mud flaps and a decal set.

Don't forget the RM Williams sticker on the back window.

  • I have no idea … but wouldn't it make more sense to lease it like most luxury vehicles? That way the expense is 100% claimable against income and there's no capital loss due to depreciation andinflation.

  • Also just fwiw, the base Colorado is close to 50k as well and there's heaps of tradies out and about in them

  • It seems almost like they made it just because they did not have a ute class in their range. I am not a tradesperson, but I could not see any tradesperson I know driving this thing. Firstly because of the expense, but secondly because of the flack.

  • Most Mercedes Benz models have been expensive taxis for years, this is just an expensive ute…

  • Our local Benz authorised dealership charges $245 per hour for labour in the workshop. Not may tradies would want to fork out that sort of usury rate.

It's just a rebadged navara, build by Nissan in Spain. Putting merc badge on it will only decrease the quality, if that's possible.
