Lagavulin 16 Year Old Scotch Whisky 700ml $85 @ Coles (Normally $128.40)

810

Noticed this good deal on a much sought after drop while I was browsing the coles website. If you like a good smoky whisky then this is the one to grab. Dan has it for $98.95 currently.

Tasting notes:

Nose: Iodine, sweet spices, good, mature Sherry and creamy vanilla.

Palate: Very thick and rich. A massive mouthful of malt and Sherry with good fruity sweetness, but also a wonderful sweetness. Big, powerful peat and oak.

Finish: Long, spicy finish, figs, dates, peat smoke, vanilla.

This is the Whisky that got me in to Whisky. Absolutely beautiful neat. As OP said, very smoky. I find it tastes like a smoky honey, personally.
Great find, will definitely be picking one of these up.

      Likewise. :)

    • +1

Agree, still my favourite and always have to have a bottle in the collection. I wouldnt say its very peaty when compared to others like Laphroaig but taste is all each to their own

      Sold!

If you can find it, try the 12yo. Younger, but matured in quarter casks and for me a nicer (but more expensive) drop.

      • +3

I agree the 12 is somewhat nicer but value for money wise, the 16 is the best

Only one? Cant be that good than…

  • +1

    Good price!

  • +1

    it was 99 yesterday

    • +2

$99 is probably a more realistic price for it (nicks pricing), however $85 is cheap!

      Purchased thanks OP.

  • Cheapest for us Qld'ers is $98.95 at Dan's.

  • No working coupons around?

    • +1

Not a coupon, but when I went onto Coles online I saw this

Great news! You've got $10 off your order!*
*Offer ends 8 Aug 2017. Min spend $140 excl tobacco products. Excl Remote Deliveries. Minimum spend $140 excludes tobacco products. Excludes Remote Deliveries. Terms & conditions for special offer $10 off your order apply.

Added two bottles and the price dropped to $160. Since I have a coles mastercard, free delivery. I'm currently in a flybys "spend $100 a week for 3 weeks to get points" thing too with nothing needed for shopping this week. Works out great.

Good price without being amazing. Have seen $80ish before. Nice find OP.

    Parks and Recreation anyone? :-D

Ron Swanson swears by it. I'd love to try it!

    • Yes! it was the episode of Parks and Rec where Ron offers Chris a Whisky in his office that made me think "you know what, I've always wanted to try Whisky properly, and if it's good enough for Ron, it's good enough for me". Cue searching Dan's for a well reviewed Whisky to try, and the rest is history.

Regular bargain price is 85. Good deal is under 80.

    • -6

I'd have to agree with this. Good price but not amazeballs. Also very average drop for the price in my opinion. Everyone on ozbargain seems to love it but there is much better islays for cheaper. This one reminds me of unripe grapefruit. Just my 2c

      • Taste is very subjective. And I also agree that this is not the all time best deal for this drop. But its the best deal at the moment.

      • Name them.

        • I prefer the Ardbeg 10, but Laga 16 was my first ever Islay and will always hold a special place in my palate. Plus it's always great to find a drink your S.O. doesn't enjoy so you can finish it all yourself :D

        • Probably going to say Johnny Walker Red with coke and ice 😂

Was drinking this last night, trying out my new Glencairn glasses (https://m.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_776068/glencairn-whis…). Highly recommend both! ;-)

    • Been eyeing those glasses for a while now. Should pick them up and see what the fuss is all about…

      • Same here. Was/still is on special at Dans so thought what the heck. Very nice glass…. Not for those heathens who need water or ice, but if you drink your whisky/whiskey 'neat' then definitely worth a go. I was using a wine tasting glass occasionally, but these are just as good. Don't hold a lot though… ;-)

      • This is a good run down on how to use the glasses http://thewhiskyclub.com.au/whisky-education/how-to-drink-wh…

Mainly used for improving the nose notes compared to an open glass.

I get the whisky clubs monthly Dram, great way to get whisky that isnt readily available and have not been dissapointed yet

  • Can you pick this at liquorland just walk in?

    • try a price match?

    The CLICK10 still works

    Bought 2 for $160

    Thanks OP :)

Bought 2 for $160 as well, thanks for sharing the code.

  • Where do you buy Coles liquor?

    • At Forty Winks

  • No longer available.

    • Really

      • I just get 'Sorry, we couldn't find the page you're looking for
The page may have moved or you might have typed an incorrect URL' when I click the link.

This shit here is my jam. For special occassions.

Thanks OP. Excellent deal. However, my ColesOnline experience is not as good as with Woolworth online. Minimum order amount is higher, limited payment options, discount/voucher code is not applicable until credit card details are entered, no "Cash Reward" and I found it difficult to believe that gift card cannot be used for online orders.

There are so much more Coles Online can do to improve online shopper's experience before the amazon invasion.

    • Agree with all your comments. Hope Coles picks up its game soon…

    • +1

I signed up to Coles online just to buy this bottle. I have a Coles a 3 minute walk from home and it has a Liquorland next door. They wanted me to go 15km away across the other side of the city to pick it up, and that was after trying the nearer options that were Coles Express lockers, which they wont let you pick up alcohol from (fair enough, but why give me the option, just to take it away again, and hide push out all the legit options in the process).

So I wrote some feedback for them and it cut of my feedback at a rather short amount.

They need to really pick up their game if they want to survive in the online world. I just closed the browser tab, shaking my head.

And dammit, I really wanted to buy this deal.

      • Same, Has my local listed as a 'locker collect' but cant pick up liquor from lockers so the closest it has for pickup is 30km away.

And i signed up for coles online for that two. Now to see if i can cancel my signup and hope Uncle Dan has a similar deal…

    • never mind… delivery is expensive………………

      • $72 delivery :O

  • If you search, it comes up, just ordered 2 bottles.

  • +1

Dan's are happy to price match at $84 :-D

  • My first time using coles online and my experience wasn't a good one. Apparently if you don't pick up your order in your nominated time frame they will resell it even if you have already PAID for it. What a farce!

I usually get my grog from Uncle Dan's and they allow you to pick up your online order whenever you want.

  • An awful experience here as well.

First time Coles delivery, got the free delivery promo with a four hour window.

Email this morning to say that delivery would be between 3 and 4pm, then an email early afternoon saying that they're unable to supply the item. Utter waste of time.

  • Sadly, mine was out of stock as well, right at the start of my 4-hour window for pickup. Despite the fact it's still available as per the website.
I guess Dan Murphy pricematch is the only way to go. Too bad there is no "Click10" bonus.

  • Still on special on Coles website, Dan Murphys willing to pricematch down to $84 today.

  • back to full price.
