Clarification of Rewards for Citi Rewards Signature Card

Just got my account statement for July, it says:

"We are writing to advise you that as of 31 August 2017, Citi will no longer be offering the promotion that
allowed you to earn Bonus Points on Eligible Transactions with Citi bonus partners. However, you will still
earn the additional points on any Eligible Transactions with these partners up until 31 August 2017.

Please remember, you can continue to enjoy the other great benefits of your Citi Rewards Credit Card,
like free wine every time you dine with the Citibank Dining Program1."

Have anyone else received this? Does it mean that this is the end of rewards for this great free (for many Ozbargainers) credit card?

  • I closed my account last week after I saw that, earn rate now is less than half of what it used to be and now it's getting even lower if anything.

    • Are there any alternatives though? Something that you can earn points with but has no annual fee that is better than the signature?

  • I haven't received it. It's not in my July Statement email. Is it in the Statement itself?

    • Yeah, on the front page.

  • You still get points, just not bonus ones. Plus they've stopped them on any govt type transactions. They were also going to increase the amount of points needed for each of the rewards.

  • +2

just keep citi as your standard backup card
and churn through the other cards that give u better points =)

  • What cards are better now? I got this when it was 2pt/$, and free annual fee.
    Now it's mostly 1pt/$
Bunnings Physical Gift Card seems still the cheapest, but now 20900/$100 instead of about 14000 when I joined.

So I'm valuing rewards at 0.47%. Is that right calculation?
Some stuff isn't even 'Eligible Transactions'
