Only 2G frequencies apparently but still a fun and cheap little item for Kris Kringle stocks. You'll need a Zapals account I suspect. Don't forget the "free gift" selection, though the USB charger is gone from that list you can still grab a firestarter^W USB cable.

  • Will this have any phone connectivity in Australia since the GSM network has been turned off?

    • Probably not - and @ $12 I reckon it is pretty much a media player/watch for when you don't really care if it is lost or damaged. You can make bluetooth calls with it, and apparently the FM radio works with USB earphones. [No earphone jack].

GSM is whats used here in Australia, think you're confusing it as the older 2G part was turned off only

      • True, but this seems to run on 2G

The entire 2G GSM network(s) have been/are being turned off already/in the next two months.

Telstra's is already gone, Optus goes this Tuesday and Voda's goes in September.

Reallocating the frequency to 4G and future 5G.

So no, this watch will not work as a phone here.

      • Yep - you need to look for "WCDMA" :-/.

Bought this the last time it was posted.
Battery lasts about 2 days, the speaker is actually surprisingly loud. After a week of use the strap fell apart, this post reminded I should glue it back together today.

  • This watch is only good for 2G GSM so dont expect high speed data nor for the phone component to work after they shut it down.

    • Telstra shut down their 2G network last year & has already commenced planning to shut down 3G.

Optus 2G network will go offline TOMORROW, 01/08/2017.

Vodafone will decommission their 2G network (0.07% of total traffic) in September.

Also, the screen size of this is useless to anyone who has above toddler sized fingers.

Thanks Sir Casm, just found some old 2G phones & inserted Amaysim SIMs from CashRewards deal. Was surprised they connected to 2G…
Optus 2G network will go offline TOMORROW - ah!
Now all prepared to watch the shutdown😁

Received this watch deal email - 2G, 2small & likely 2shoddy. Plus 2old - photo of screen shows 2014. Came for the comments.

I went looking for old 1.5" photo frame to consider how small watch screen is. It's small! Also found my old 2G phones.

I know nothing about smart watches, but I found the DZ09 on eBay for approx $9.83 shipped
There is also a cheaper model for ~AU$6.98 shipped in red, in the same link.

Nice one:-) I was going to just change the header to reference your post, then remembered the "free gift" and didn't want to upset the Gods of recursion.

I bought one of these a while back for the shit of it for 8 bucks, hit me up if you have any questions.

Firstly, there's a few different versions and figuring out which you'll get is hard. Some come with FM radio, some don't, some come with a video player, some don't. Mine said it had both, and it had neither. Kinda shit, probably worth looking into if you can but just a heads up.

Second, the thing IS 2G only, there is NO 3G version and ANYONE who says otherwise is full of shit or don't know. Believe me on this, there is NO 3G VERSION AVAILABLE.

With that out of the way, here's some cool bullet points
. It can play MP3s and stuff, but there's no like artist or album sorting so you'll be making playlists.
. The screen looks surprisingly good, if I recall it's 240x240 (I think) and it genuinely does look nice.
. It has a camera, the photos it takes are expectedly blurry but it's a cool novelty.
. Through Bluetooth you can receive photos and songs and shit, which is cool.
. There's a Facebook and Whatsapp app on mine, but they only work through data, and since it's 2G only, you ain't gonna get them to run in Australia, because there's no WiFi on the thing, which sucks because there's a browser on there but eh.
. Using Bluetooth to make and take calls is surprisingly not shit, decent speaker volume and quality. No lag.
. You'll get about 3 or 4 hours of use out of a full charge (which takes me about half an hour to charge up via standard mini B on a power brick)
. If I recall, you can change the watch face and there's a few built in ones.
. It does have a micro SD slot, which is dope, I've only thrown 32gb and under in there though, heard it caps out at 32gb but could be wrong.

I ended up enjoying the novelty enough to upgrade to a QW09 which is basically the same watch but with a better camera, running Android, with WiFi and actual 3G connectivity so you can make and take calls in Australia. It's a great little phone and can be got for 40 odd without much effort. That's what I'd recommend but if the above is of use to you, then go nuts because it's still a great watch, I just wanted a watch that's a phone more than anything else. It did make a GREAT toy for my 17 month old though, she loves bopping to the music on the thing and playing with it and all that, and since I got mine for under 10 bucks I can't say I'm too fussed if she broke it (she's actually taken really good care of it, but I don't think y'all care so I'll shut up now).

Anyway, hope that was of use to someone. The watch is legit cool for the price, tech is (profanity) amazing to me, a bit over 5 years ago I was still stuck on a PS2 and now we have watches that are phones. It's awesome.

Oh, and all these cheap watches use the same battery, so picking up an extra one, charging the battery, and keeping it on you is always a cheap option.

  • My dad bought one and it sits in the drawer because he was thinking it would make phone calls.

It did when the salesperson said it could but then he asked me and I go not on Telstra the 2G network is long gone.

A few curses after he got over it.

He also got ripped off paid like $28 or so for it.

    Price is $21.99 now

    • Ty for that. Watchnerd posted a couple of cheaper options a bit up the page.
