Samsonite 72 Hours Soft Side Upright Small 50cm Grey 1.5kg - Myer Online - $129.50 (RRP $299)

440
ANNIVERSARY20

Samsonite's LIGHTEST carry on luggage. Only 1.5kg. Cheapest price I've ever seen these being sold. Ensure to use ANNIVERSARY20 for a further $20 off to bring the price down to $129.50

With airlines usually limiting carry on baggage to 7kg, every gram counts, and at 1.5kg, you'll be able to pack in a full 5.5kg for your trip away!

Why not add a link to the deal on Myer's website or eBay store ?

My bad. Must've missed that step. Thanks for pointing it out. :)

I don't understand why some airlines keep going along with this 7 kg total carry on rule. It leads to people having to pay ridiculous prices for negligible reductions in suitcase weight (in this case 0.5 kg) when in reality the weight of individual passengers can vary by over 100 kg. Perhaps you should be allowed more carry-on if your weight is below the national mean? As long as the extra fits under the seat in front.

    • Completely agree!

      • +12

Same reason as speed camera's have a tolerance of 2-3km/h in some states and are placed on long straight roads with low accident rates.

    • +2

It's because anything more than 7kg and it becomes a struggle to put in the overhead compartment. I nearly twisted my wrist last time taking down a lady's 15kg carry-on luggage. Airlines enforce these restrictions for safety.

      • +3

        I'm aware of that aspect

as long as the extra fits under the seat in front

I'm talking about airlines measuring the total weight of carry-on
If I bring a second back-pack to put under my seat with laptop/headphones/iPad/camera that's easily another 5.5 kg. Lots of airlines will then charge you to check in the first one, even if it only weighs only 7 kg, since the total is now "12.5 kg"

      • +4

Safety?? I think you misspelt "money"

10 kg is reasonable. 7 is money grabbing

        • +1

Have you seen the weights for ladies in the gym? they are all under 10kg

I do want more weight btw, and also not happy that they stuff my hand luggage hard to fit more in

      • So why do some US airlines allow 18 kg carry-ons? It's safe for Americans but not Australians?

7 kg weight limits don't have anything to do with safety, it's everything to do with 1) reducing weight to reduce costs of fuel and 2) the opportunity to charge checked in baggage fees and generate ancillary revenue for low cost carriers

    • Cmon engineeringprof, you really think that small latch on the overhead compartment can handle that much weight? Factoring in the vibrations from cabin, engine and the weather conditions.
From memory, seats and compartments in commercial jets are designed to handle 6g.
I've seen so many of these latches fail on the 787s just before landing when the landing gear drops and the pilot encounters some wind shear.

EasyJet have no weight limit for hand baggage.
British Airways now have 23kg per bag.
Even Ryanair have 10kg weight limit.
All airlines have strict size restrictions.

        7kg is purely a money grab…

    • I agree, but I'm not sure if it would be legal for the airlines to do that. I'm sure obese individuals would whinge about how they're being discriminated against.

      • I'm not obese, but going to the gym for 30 years has made me a fair bit bigger than average. And I'd certainly complain about this.

    • Definitely! Should be total weight

  • Father's Day covered! Thanks OP!

Not to worry, if you have an extra spare $5 note lying around, you can get one from here - https://www.bagworld.com.au/shop/detail/samsonite-72-hours-s… - $134 delivered.

      • +2

To add to that if you prefer Navy colour https://www.bagworld.com.au/shop/detail/samsonite-72-hours-s… for $134 delivered also.

There's basically a choice of either Platinum Grey as in the web link above or Navy colour. Same price for either. I reckon that the Navy colour looks way better but that's just in my opinion.

      • thank you sir !

      • +3

Also available through their eBay store for $134 delivered and if you happen to have one of those $20 eBay vouchers sent to you to bring the price down even further. :)

SHOCK5 coupon brings it to $127.30

        • +3

Well there you go that's an even better deal through the SHOCK5 coupon code than what was from Myer, that's on the through the Bagworld website itself, not through eBay just to clarify.

According to this, the coupon code expires 16 August 2017 and it must apply to all luggage?. Just showing a detail about the coupon code, ignore the thing about American Tourister Bon Air Luggage.

This will go great with my $199 netbook.

        • +1

          @k:

Why would you put a netbook inside of a luggage bag?.

      • Different model though (50cm)

        • +1

Look up in the product title from the one from Myer, 50cm. Bagworld is selling the 50cm so it's exactly the same model.

        • @hollykryten: whoops..looked at myer's image and its for the 55cm one

        • @godzilla123:

The Myer's image is the 50cm one i do believe.

      • I posted this code on another comment but if you use the coupon OZ, it takes 5% off so it is $127.30 delivered.

  • My favorite carry on at the moment, survived 3 international trips and still going strong.

  • … not in stock, but they do have these (2.3kg though) … https://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/duranxt-lite-softside-u…

add a little something to go over $100 and you can apply the ANNIVERSARY20 coupon, my after discount total came to $109 for two items and I got free shipping as well.

Spinner version $148. Better option than the upright!

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/322535757394

  • Picked up the larger version for less than $100 from COTD last year, if I remember correctly the black was and extra $10.

Keep your eyes open for Samsonite deals on there unless your in a hurry..

    • Not much deals on Samsonite there at COTD at the moment. But they do have some deals on other brands like this going at the moment though for Antler Cyberlite II 4W 56cm for $79 down from $269. 10 year warranty too. Bargain huh. :)

      https://www.catch.com.au/product/antler-cyberlite-ii-4w-soft…

      • On paper, some of these cabin bags are over-sized for carry-on. Virgin Australia has a 48cm limit, so 56cm of this bag (and 55cm for some of the other bags above) may or may not cause you trouble depending on the day… Just for noting.

        • Is that why the bags are going for cheap? I do fly Virgin and would hate for some jobsworth point out that I'm 2cm over regulation.

        • On the VA 737s, the international standard size 56cm will fit wheels in to the overhead luggage bins, but on their A330s, they won't, so you have to put them in horizontally, taking up room in the luggage bin. However, I always travel with my 56cm cabin baggage on VA, and never been questioned, and I see heaps of people with the same bag as I have (Samsonite Firelite Spinner 50cm) in the lounges.

  • is the 50 or 55cm a better choice ? they're both about the same weight..

    • One's bigger, one is smaller. See my question above - the larger one could be an issue if you ever fly Virgin Australia domestic or international as their max size is a little smaller than most…

    • Isn't the 55cm has spinner wheels? I like those wheels to be honest, they make the luggage easier to handle.

      • The Antler Cyberlite II 4W 56cm from COTD is a spinner wheels too by the looks but it's only $79 (RRP $269).

        • But the Antler is 700grams heavier!

That's effectively another 12 pairs of undies you could take with on your trip! lol

  • Looking at the descriptions on eBay…

55cm version - approved cabin bag size for Qantas domestic and international flights
50cm version - approved cabin bag size for Qantas and Virgin domestic and international flights

Anyone have experience/know how strict Virgin would be in reality around a 55cm carry-on?

    • +3

People do get through, but not always. I wouldn't risk it - don't need that stress of 'will I' or 'won't i?' when travelling.

You only need to get stopped once and any saving you've made here will be diminished if you need to race and grab something smaller in the airport! A shame Virgin needs to be different to the others…

I wonder if there are any spinner bags with retractable wheels?! That would give you back four or five cm!

  • I always use my Nike duffle for my carry on. Never had a size problem as it squishes into any shape. Something like this is perfect.
