  • My guess is that they're passed the 'Best Before' date, or a made in Vietnam…

    • +15

Yep, swiss chocolate made in vietnam, imported after best before date. No chance mate.

      • is selling food stuff that has gone past its best before date legal? I guess if you can still consume it safely, then its okay.

        • +2

They're not past the BB date, most of them are end of Oct. Some end of Nov or Dec, and the balls Aug 2011.

Reasonable prices, but personally I would want cheaper for those so close to the BB date.

        • +1

is selling food stuff that has gone past its best before date legal?

No, a best before date is only a guide.
Food can still be safe to eat for weeks, months and years after the best before date.

The date is only telling you when the freshness and taste will start to decrease.

Selling products after the use by date is illegal

          • @anthony: true thats best before, the product may become slightly different after this date eg can taste different, or different texture etc

but for USE BY you must use by that date and do not consume afterwards

yes it is illegal to sell after use by or best before date, by law all food products must have either of these dates printed on the individual product

              @kwaker:

yes it is illegal to sell after use by or best before date

              No.
It is only illegal to sell after the use buy date.

Foods can be legally sold after the best before date (as long as they are not damaged, deteriorated or perished.)

by law all food products must have either of these dates printed on the individual product

              No that is not correct
If the shelf life is longer than 2 years no date is required.

      • +1

QQQ, well your kinder surprises… and other food items last week were so close that by the time it would ship, they would've been past the best before date

  • +10

The above rrp are wrong by the way…

  • +1

    nomnomonmonmmnomomn

    • +1

      no … just 3 noms :)

  • whats the real RRP of these chococlates?

    • +4

Coles have 2 x 100g blocks (any variety) for $5 this week… And they are not past the Best Before Date… (ends tomorrow)

      • Yea but they are normally $3 each, but to compare things to rrp is bit sneaky because market price is always cheaper and the consumer thinks they are getting a great deal.

    "80 x Lindt Linder (1KG) - $38.70 (rrp$80)"

What is Lindt Linder ??? Chinese fake ????

    • Either that or a typo.

  • +2

    "CONDITION: BRAND NEW!!!"

    • +1

      I'd hope so.

      • +1

It certainly is brand new unless you find teeth prints on the bars.

  • +13

    wherz the damn cheap PS3?

  • +1

does it come with 5-year warranty? if yes, that will be a great deal! :)

    • lol

  • Hmm 1kg Chocolate Hmmmmmm.. 40 dollars after coupon. Maybe ill get the hazel nut ehehe

  • +1

most likely a similar deal to the other food COTD sells. It is all marked "Not for sale outside Vietnam"… perhaps that should be mentioned. I am specifically refering to the Chuppa Chups and Mentos (razza mints)

    • to be fair - I think this deal is for real swiss lindt chocolates destined to be sold here but because they are a premium product they will always have stock left over.

As a side note, I have tried ferreo roche chocolates that were made in canada/italy/china and they all taste the same. Obviously this is not the same for all products but its unfair to generalize "made in xxx = crap" its just the intended audience and their preferences/cost schedules.

    • also could be different health codes etc.

I remember someone telling me they put another additive in chocolate that goes to Singapore and other hot climates, but I don't have any verification at the moment.

      • I think it would just be tempered differently

    • Yeah, I've been puzzled buy this also, I thought it was illegal to parallel import items listed as "only for sale in xxx" and flog them off locally.

      • +1

And whaT would they sell in shops like the reject shop and online stores like cotd?!?

    QQQ - Catchoftheday,

I bought more than $25 worth of Lindt from COTD today (order number 1384634) but before I saw the QQQCoupon code you mentioned in your OP. Can you please apply the “OMNOMNOMNOM” to my order?

    • I don't blame you for asking, and QQQ is quite accommodating so you never know, but I would think the code is for those that sit on Ozbargain looking for bargains and then make the decision to buy, not for those that went direct to COTD and were happy to buy at their listed price.

    • as always you can contact QQQ by email for store credit.

      • I wish I could but his email is no longer listed on OZBargain.

    • QQQ - Do you think you can apply the code to my order too? I have the same username as here and order number is 1384976.

  • It's getting warm up here in "Beautiful one day, perfect the next", no sorry now it's "Queensland, where Australia shines" on the rest of you so is it likely to survive in the back of Aust post trucks/vans for 3 days+

    • I passed through Brisbane a few weeks ago and it was cloudy and cool :P

But I'm getting off topic so … if the deal'd been then, it might've survived a tight shipping schedule :)

      • yeah, we had almost 2 full weeks of rain during the school holidays while the 3 kids where at home and we had day trips , bike rides, new parks to explore etc planned and then it warms up this week when they go back to school.

  • Doh I just ordered over $100 worth of chocolates and didn't see this post until after I ordered so didn't get the discount :(

    • Me 2

      • Me 3

        • -4

Mod please advise and remove comment or move to forum if it is not appropriate here.

On a side note, for those who used the coupon code during the purchase and got the discount, good on you.

Trying to get COTD to honour the coupon code after the purchase by emailing QQQ, prepare to have a long wait before any getting any resolution.

My store credit from a previous purchase approaching 4 weeks have not been applied to my account, even after 4 emails to them.

          /end rant.
Now waiting for negs for my post. :)

          • @savememoney: Somewhere QQQ said that he or she has been busy and is still getting through the credits

          • @savememoney: it's store credit afterall not cashback, so unless you're in a hurry to purchase something off COTD anytime soon with that credit, the wait is ok. ps. I had to wait also before, but it got there eventually.

    • If you placed an order before, send me an e-mail with your order number will organise a store credit. To those waiting on store credits from previous promotions, haven’t forgotten about you - been busy as you can understand.

  • They were good, I always found good deal, but not anymore, star sell some rubbish, and not cheap at all.

  • Not bad

  • +2

I'd have expected a much bigger discount for food so close to the best before dates. Lindt goes on sale several times a year in supermarkets for 50% off, which is very close to these COTD prices when you add postage. Not a great deal.

  • +3

Yep I agree, should be cheaper. I have seen it cheaper than this when approaching useby in Coles clearance bins.

    • +2

I picked up a massive box from Sweet As and it was cheaper than this. I got to eat it quickly and I didn't have to pay postage either. The COTD prices should definitely be cheaper.

  • +1

No 100g dark chox bars, pity.

BTW, the company may be Swiss, but the bars you normally see in retail are made in France.

    Hey

  • Oh bugger! just ordered without applying for coupon! I will email them and see if they can help me cancel and replace the order since it hasn't shipped yet.

I'll let you guys know what they say in case it happens to somebody else.

    • They refunded my $5 pretty simple.

  • Hi QQQ,

my order number is 1386050. My sincere request is - please please please send this asap - i'm traveling soon and would like to take it with me.
