        • @MountFranklin: It's not $750+ could mean $1000000… just when the difference is $20, the actual price does matter.

I've sold Android devices and iOS devices. It depends on the item and the price. I personally don't sell phones which have parts not working. It depends on the item because there are Apple items which are just not that good to sell (i.e. iPad 3) and there are Android items which are equally bad as well. Popular Android phones do sell well too. It depends on the item itself (including the condition) and the price is always a big part. Photos are important so is the description of the item. There are different groups of buyers on feeBay, you generally need to target a specific group. I don't bother with auctions - so many dodgy buyers or people just bidding for fun.

For purchasing Android devices, I tend to go for ones which are good value for money. $150 for Snapdragon 808 based phones and $250 for 820 based phones - bought them last year, even if they depreciate like crazy, the net loss is still less than my iPhone 6S+. If you must go for an Android flagship equivalent of Apple iPhone, then get Samsung.

I support both Android and iOS. Well, I am locked in to both camps it is hard for me to just completely let go of one camp and I believe competition is good.

I was originally thinking this deal is not bad… However, I just had lunch with my mate who owns this phone. He told me that it is slow on iOS 10. Don't get me wrong, compared to Android camp, where there are manufacturers selling Snapdragon 4xx series CPU based phones still, Apple at least don't sell super slow devices. The touchscreen design glitch worries me a bit… The bendgate isn't really a problem (it was blown out of proportion).

        • +1

@netsurfer: depreciation is measured by percentage. End of conversation.

        • @tp0: An Android phone below $300 can be write off easily. A new current gen iPhone has to go through depreciation process, which takes years - end of conversation.

You want to talk percentage. Acer Liquid MT - less than 20% depreciation over 2 years. iPhone 4 - 50% depreciation over 2 years.

        • Now, back to this deal.

iPhone SE has a better CPU, camera, but smaller screen.
iPhone 6 has a larger screen, but slower CPU, inferior camera.

Things to watch out with these two phones:
          - iPhone SE - the CPU lottery, you either get Samsung CPU or TSMC CPU. Most people believe TSMC CPU is better. You cannot tell by looking at the box.
          - iPhone 6 - there seems to be a slight design issue with the touchscreen. It is actually less of an issue with iPhone 6 (more with 6 Plus). Some people will mention bendgate, but that's really not an issue AFAIK - my friend's iPhone 6 is fine after these years. He does complain iOS 10 makes it feel a bit sluggish.

Telstra unlock: you can go to the site and unlock it. It is luck of the draw. One of mine was unlocked within 5 minutes, Another one took more than 12 hours. I don't get why Telstra bothered with locking the phone.

        • lol last year I sold my mum's white 32gb iphone 4s for $1000 to a person who was working at Vodafone who do 2G, 3G and 4G testing with different OS's. How did I get this amount? because it still had iOS 5 and it was never connected to a computer.

Fyi anyone who buys this the 6 has a screen fault after a while it would produce grey lines which is a sign of death of screen. Apple usa know about but there is no fix apart from replacement.

    • +1

It is for every iPhone 6? I am using mine for 2.5 years, no issues?

      • Its for the 6 and 6s i recsll but its a lotto, yours might never have the isse but i see i happens around the 2 year mark.
Buggered if i know what the issue was or is. Software? Hardware? Related i dont know.

    • Good thing Apple will replace it free of charge then!

      • -1

Lol free of charge. If it is a known fault and apple asutralia accept it.
It might be if its within warranty

The SE is the better buy of the pair.

Cheaper, better processor, better storage speed, better camera etc.

Unless you need the point 0.7 inch of screen real estate stick with the SE.

    • +2

The bigger screen makes a huge difference for the better, the difference is very noticeable. But SE still gets my vote, smaller screen has it's own merits anyway.

    • +3

0.7inch diagonal difference equates to a 38% size increase in area

  • Why is this getting so many upvotes? It's not a deal. SE is a much better buy.

If you want the large screen what iPhone are you coming from to want this? 5S? Then a 6 isn't an upgrade worth $449. You should wait for the 6s to become this price or near.

If you're on a 5S and don't mind the screen size buying this is a mistake. SE with 6s performance is world's better.

  • +1

at this time. i will grab a se from ow or hn for 399 over this phone.

  • +3

Yeah nah sorry, $450 for this three year old phone is not a deal.
The SE is a much better option.

  • I use an SE from work. Best iPhone I've had by a mile but then again I haven't used the 6 or 6S
The best iPhone I've experienced is the 7 I bought as a gift

  • The 6 only has bigger screen size, but the SE has 4K video recording and better in every way. This is not an amazing deal.

  • If anyone who bought this phone is not a fan of AFL, can you please PM me.

  • Just wondering if I were to buy this and bring it overseas, I would be able to claim TRS?

But I'm buying to give it someone so I can't really unlock it without opening it then I wouldn't be able to claim it?

    :(

    • +1

You can still claim through TRS. Opened package doesn't matter; you don't even have to have the box, all they want to check is the phone and the tax invoice.

  • -2

$399 at Harvey Norman seems better.

    • +1

No its not they dont even have it :(

      • +1

Have you tried ordering it online?

Bennetts Green and Maitland where I live have over 20 in stock.

  • -2

I would suggest using it with a case!
(Google "iPhone 6 bendgate" and "iphone 6 broken camera lens")

  • I was at an Apple Store in the USA and I was informed by an Apple employee that ALL Apple iPhones are unlocked from the factory and to keep them unlocked, turn the phone on without inserting the SIM. If the SIM is inserted it locks to that network and requires unlocking by the network. The employee showed me on three different Apple iPhones. After the phone is turned on and you navigate through the language and location, the SIM can be inserted (usually at the end of the process and in the home screen). Many stores insert the SIM prior to turning the phone on so it locks to that network.

    • That's partly true. The carrier-lock is actually on the server-side - ie Apple's activation server. All iPhone require a sim inserted on initial activation and if the phone is flagged to be locked on the server (either by its IMEI or UUID) and the sim is not with that carrier it will display this SIM is Invalid message. In fact, I just bought a Telstra prepaid SE from OW this week, put in a Vodafone sim upon activation and got the message. Got it unlocked through Telstra LiveChat, tried again and it went past activation. All without inserting a Telstra sim.

  • Any other recommendations on a cheap iPhone? Can be a 5SE or 6, it's for the folks.

  • Bought this on day one of this deal (about a fortnight ago)

Not delivered yet - on line support keeps saying "two days"

    Not happy

  • +2

There are 6 available on eBay for $426.55 delivered using C5OZ code if interested. You might not get the $30 starter pack but you'll save $22.45 + another $5.83 cashback & free delivery.

I rang Officeworks this morning and got it for 5% under $449 with their price match policy. AND they have immediate stock.

  • 26 August on this deal's page:

" Available now - Due to a high number of orders for this product, there may be delays in delivery"

Yep - mine still has not arrived, now more than 3 WEEKS since order.

Online chat no help, have lodged a complaint, no response there either.

    • You clearly have the option of getting your money back. Officeworks have stock and did same day delivery to Melbourne metro on Thursday (to my mum!)

  • Still no delivery on 7 September, waiting more than a month.

Online response - "we have raised this issue"

    Complaints team - nothing.

    Appalling service.

    Stay away.

Any suggestions as to who I'm supposed to escalate this to?

    The TIO?
