would this good enough for most things i would probably do moderate gaming - mostly games released before 2015 - not looking to play many AAA games on it though
i wouldn't be looking to spend more than $1400 if there is something similar that anyone could recommend.

Might want to take a look at this deal. Double the RAM, far more powerful GPU, Quad-core CPU (as opposed to the dual-core i7 in the HP), and an SSD alongside a 1TB HDD which is a must these days to most people.
Slightly heavier and larger battery, but the more power-hungry components will likely nullify any possible battery life gains over the HP.
If you want to save a bit, might be also worth considering this. Only a 950M for graphics though, so much slower than the E570P.
