Give us something we can use our AMEX deal on TA! (And something that weighs less than 2kg)

    • +13

Yeah, something like X1 Carbon, TA!

    • Still cheaper.

    • +1

Yep - TA. Hanging out for < 2kg AND we can use AMEX deal.

  • Remember to use your AMEX card (oops, nevermind, must spend $1,299)

The E570P gaming laptop will fall into the Amex category though.

  • +2

Nice deal. Would have definitely jumped on it if RAM was 16gb.

    • +2

Adding an extra 8Gb of RAM brings the price to $1034 ($1884 minus discount of $850); just tried this configuration.

      • Yeah, realised this but then looked at the keyboard and no backlight so another deal breaker for me.

        • +6

What's the appeal of the backlight? My keboard has three settings (on, dim and bright) and I've never come across any need to turn it on).

        • @elyobo: Checking emails before going to bed when others might be asleep. But more important checking Ozbargain deals before bed. :)

        • +1

@parallelparadox: What you check emails on your laptop late at night in someone elses room while they are sleeping… and not on your phone? Seeeeemmmms a little strange >_<

        • +2

@elyobo: I would never use a keyboard without one, laptop or desktop. It's functional because lots of people user their laptops in a pitch black room, plus it's aesthetically pleasing and makes the laptop look more premium.

        • +9

Mine is backlit from above, with a switch on the wall.

        • +1

@chriskq: Agreed, but it's best practice to not have ANY electronics in your room.

Bedrooms are for sleeping and 'sleeping' with someone else.

        • +1

          @chriskq: lol.

        • @KLoNe:

Do you have a best practice sex position too that you adhere to as well?

My bedroom isn't for "best practice". It's for unwinding, relaxing, and living my life, and yes sleeping. Whether I read my books on a kindle or a phone or a paper book is not something I'm interested in having dictated to me once I've been made aware of the pros and cons.

        • +1

          @syousef: LMAO

        • @syousef: This may be able to help you with your condition www.reddit.com/r/DeadBedrooms.

        • @KLoNe:

I'm not the one who's decided "best practice" is for the bedroom. I'm sure that real stokes the fires.

No wonder the world is going to hell. We're afraid of a little light in our bedrooms ruining our sleep.

        • @BradH13: I use my laptop in a pitch black room sometimes (well, except for the screen light)… but I can touch type, so don't need to see the keys :) I guess it's useful if you haven't developed that skill.

      • Though the first link looks like it is in USD.

It seems a bit more expensive here in Oz:

        http://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/Products-details.phtml?id…

The second link didn't open up properly for me, but is that the US website as well?

      • Also, for the first year some manufacturers have a warranty clause that if you open the device the warranty is void. So I wouldnt do it myself, has to be by Lenovo if anything.

  • +1

TA, can we have same deal as previous one for E470. I missed than deal

  • +4

Need deals for ThinkPad T / X series please!

  • How do I get it to work with cash rewards? Can't find the same configuration when I click through from cash rewards. Chip is i7-7200u.

    • +3

Click the link I've added to the bottom of the OP, then select Shop Now.

  • no backlite keyboard no deal. thank you for sharing either way.

    • What's the point of a backlit keyboard?

      • +4

so he can type at night while still learning to touch type.

        • +2

lol spot on. just much nicer when typing at night.

        • @porsche26c: Work on the touch typing, it's worth the effort :D

      • I'm the same. Don't need it but want. Good for if someone who sucks at typing uses it.

Night light when I get up to pee

  • Other than bigger screen and dedicated numpad, are there any other differences?

I bought the E470 for my wife for general web surfing, watching media, paying bills etc (probably should have just bought her a tablet or surface). Any reason why the 570 would have been a better choice (and if so, should/would/could I move the E470 on)?

    • +1

Not for anything you've listed above. The numberpad could be helpful for paying bills?
      This one has a 950M, the E470 has a 940MX.

Other than that, the E470 looks better to me, and it's lighter.

  • Does it do HDMI 2.0? I can't find any info.

    • Says max 1920x1080p@60Hz output via HDMI, so no.

  • Decent price for the specs but I have to say that my last three Lenovo laptops have all had relatively short lives of 2 years or so.

    This was a Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro, a Lenovo 3 14 and a Lenovo Edge E520.

Recently had to buy a replacement for the Lenovo 3 14 for my wife and couldn't bring myself to buy the same brand again.

    • Edge is not great, but my X220 and X230 are still going strong.

    • Did you perform regular cleanings on the fan? Dust buildup can really shorten the lifespan of laptops

  • Seems to be half price warranties even before the code

  • Why doesn't Lenovo include touch screens on their laptops?

    • They do, I am typing on one now.

      • I know the Yoga series do, I should have been more specific perhaps with the model line, the ThinkPad series seems to omit touch screens, I don't like the Yoga series designs.

Really wish this or its 14 inch version had a touch screen.

        • I have a X1 ThinkPad Yoga which is a ThinkPad/Yoga. Its design leans towards the ThinkPads.

  • Any deals for a smaller size laptop?

  • 950M GPU, NO Thanks!

  • Will this play bluray quality movies? My other half is struggling to get a 5gig file to play on her Toshiba L50 i5, with 2gig switchable graphics, 8 gig ram, Win 10.

    • A 5gb file is definitely not a Bluray quality movie.

      • Thats true, but it is the size of the file that stutters on her laptop.

        • +1

Use MPC-HC to play it as it supports gfx card processing.

        • @cymon: Its got a couple of players, some work better but none play this file. Havent tried MPC, I think its installed. File plays fine on my PC, and I tried to transfer it a second time, no better.

I did rename VLC so it is selectable, it wasnt as per std install. Its the worst at playing it.

  • Does anyone know if the miix720 is good?

  • t series deals please!!

  • +4

deal on carbon X1 please & around $1300

  • +3

Thanks TA. Got one for a gift for a friend oveeseas. Stacked your discount, cashrewards, americanexpress, and TRS = Ultimate ozbargain?

    • Interested - How did you manage to get the AMEX deal with it at this price (AMEX requires min. 1299 before the Amex 'deal' kicks in doesn't it?

      • +1

added extras that brought it just over $1300….extra warranty and more RAM.

  • Am still waiting to be tempted to upgrade my laptop before I go overseas in six weeks time. Have been close to biting the bullet a few times - may just have to settle for travelling 1.6-2.4kg lighter and just a smartphone! Any recomendations for something with USB-C and something as sleek as an XPS?

  • Bought one of these machines around Christmas from this deal.

The machine for the price is fantastic and I'm extremely glad I bought one.

Sure, it's not the lightest laptop out there, but coming from a Dell XPS L501X, it's a whole lot lighter than that chunky beast and personally, this is a non-issue for me (it might be an issue for your mum/grandma though, so keep that in mind).

The biggest downside is the lack of a backlit keyboard, but for the price, it's something I was willing to live without.

I've only tried a couple of games on it and have found the laptop performs well enough. I wouldn't recommend ultra settings, but medium-high settings in most games should deliver a respectable framerate.

I've had no issues whatsoever since owning this and would happily recommend it to anyone who is looking for a laptop with pretty good specs at an affordable price.

If you have any issues with Cashrewards tracking your purchase (don't forget to go via Cashrewards), make sure you contact TA. It'll get sorted out as long as you went through CR.

  • Got one of these, thanks TA

    • my better half did too at about 11 last night, thanks TA.

    Thank you tightarse,
for this great deal, but it looks like Lenovo has yet again over sold their products,
Being excitedly looking for a new Laptop i thought this is a great deal for the E570 Config that was spec'ed by Lenovo

So i went ahead and ordered the Stock version of the E570 with "no addons" at all.
    Order Date: August 4, 2017
I created an account when i was asked to by the Lenovo web page after checkout, now when i login there is no order history,
called the extremely very poor customer service and was told they will fix it right away, no fix to this day.
Although, i have recieved confirmation Emails from Lenovo and Paypal, and i am able to see my sale on the Lenovo Order Visibility Portal.
i checked the Order Portal yesterday,
    Expected to Ship
    August 9, 2017
    Very good, i thought.

Woke up this morning, checked the order portal again, only to find this:
    Expected to Ship
    August 31, 2017

    Expected to Arrive
    September 11, 2017

no emails…. no communication, nothing but sadness.

Waiting over 1 month for a standard (no addons) Laptop that says "in Stock" when you buy it, is pretty misleading to me

"Ships in 2 business days" says the Lenovo sales page
    Lenovo Lead time
You’ll receive your delivery approximately 5-7 business days after your order has shipped.
    http://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/leadtimes

Sadly not impressed at all with Lenovo.

    • I dont even get a delivery estimate… ordered on the 6th, and upped the ram to 16. But still sitting as ordered only. Money gone from account though.

    • I was told there was a similar delay yesterday, but I checked the portal today, and it says est ship 15th Aug and delivery by 23rd Aug, can you double check yours? I feel like they were trying to get people to cancel their orders

  • If you read this TA, whats the odds you can get Lenovo to allow me to pay the difference and change the order to the E570P? Maybe thats in stock.

    Worth a shot.

    • Keen to find out too, my unit has also been delayed till September.

  • I got an email today saying that it has shipped today.
