  • load up a citibank debit card and post it to them

    • Not sure why you're getting negs … it's a legit answer. Wouldn't surprise me, if you can get citibank to issue an ATM card in your relatives name and send it directly to them.

      • +2

yeah, I don't get it either.

your family walks up to an ATM (with no fees) and simply withdraw the money at decent rates.

then in the future if you need to send more money then you just transfer it to the card and they withdraw it.

get an additional card in their name. certainly possible. damn easy if you ask me. almost too easy.

  • Assuming you don't like @altomic's reply - your choices are:

    1. Use your bank - convenient, but expensive wire fees and crappy exchange rate
    2. Paypal - probably better than #1.
    3. Retail FX broker/payment provider (worldfirst, transferwise, xe, ozforexetc). People rant and rave about how good ozforex is, but IMO, it still has crappy rates. Transferwise looks interesting (I've never used them), but the wire fees kill it for small transactions
    4. Cash in a suitcase - you get decent rates for converting cash with the right money changer in India. You can probably find decent
  • Try InstaReM, they are not as fast as Western Union. Take upto 2 business days have sent money quite a few times, never had any dramas.

  • I often use ICICI Money2India.

Good rates and fast service with very minimum fees.

    • you loose a lot on exchange rates… try instarem or sbisyd. I used instarem for the first time last week..and got the best rate 51.3. with no fee for transfer.. never seen this rate on any other provider.

  • Upvote for Instarem. you get the best rates.

  • if all else fails, moneygram is the way to go.

  • I use transferwise. They give you mid market rate (the exchange rate you find on google). They are fast(1-2days) and with lowest fees AFAIK
