ALDI Rooibos Herbal Infusion 80g (50 Bags) for $1.99

1120

I was in my local Aldi and noticed they are now stocking Rooibos at just $1.99 a box. This compares to "Just Rooibos" which is almost $6 at my local Coles (went up about $1 when they stopped stocking "Vital Rooibos").

One thing to note is they are 80g and 50 bags (Just Rooibos is 40 bags 100g) so the bags are pretty weak but even using two you are ahead.

And yes I know this is "normal price" for Aldi I thought it was worth bringing to the attention of any Rooibos drinkers since it is a new line :)

    how do you pronounce Rooibos?

    • +10

      Roy-boss :)

      • +4

I believe Rooibos translates to "red bush".

Roll your R and lisp your s.
In Dutch, the second syllable vowel is like a soft 'u', so it's more like 'busss' - it's a long time since I've spoken to an Afrikaaner to compare.

    Thanks OP! Love rooibos

  • They sold it until a year or so ago, then stopped. Pleased to see it's back.
Although from memory it's not as nice, nor strong as Tick Tock (which also seemed to disappear).

    • +1

Well, not strong , just make a cup with two or three tea bags in

Thanks! Wouldn't have known Aldi stocked rooibos. They don't happen to be bags with string do they?

    • +7

they do have a string and tag

Convenience, I guess, but I never understood the fascination. Depending on the material, these things don't bio-degrade in one's compost bin.

The old man swore by a tea pot; I have one of those metal balls steeped in a mug.

Plus the fact that tea bags tend to be lower quality than loose leaf. I get my rooibos from iHerb for $25-30/kg.

Thanks OP, judging by all the + votes didn't realise it was a regular drink among ozbargainers

Thank you!!!! We love red tea but it's so darn pricey.

  • +6

Glad to see it called a herbal infusion rather than tea. If it isn't camellia sinensis it isn't tea!

    • This has been a public information announcement on the behalf of tea pedants everywhere. :)

Stop trying to control other people because of some petty issue you have.

      • Pot kettle?

  • They used to stock FreshPak brand Rooibos which is the best. Can only get it from specialy stores now.

Aldi's green and earl grey teas are decent as well.

    :)

This compares to "Just Rooibos" which is almost $6 at my local Coles

Because Coles loves Aussies so much, they just have a funny way of showing it. Just like their prices being down.

    • +2

Coles/Woolies prices are higher and they are screwing the producers more and more.

I think maybe people aren't getting the sarcasm in my post somehow

Am I supposed to know what this drink is?

I feel so left out as I have no clue what it is and every ozbargainer seems to.

In any case I am gonna try this next time I am in Aldi because of the number of positive votes.

    • It tastes like kangaroo.

      That's why it's called ROOibos

      • It tastes like eating hay but with a hint of vanilla (Actually I like i tho)

    • +4

Rooibos is a "tea" - not a true tea, but made from the rooibos (red bush) which grows exclusively in the Western Cape in South Africa. It is naturally caffeine-free, very high in anti-oxidants and rather tasty. The purists will tell you that you don't add honey / sugar / milk etc, but quite honestly it is delicious with a dash of honey and a bit of milk.

It's a brilliant option for young kids if they also want to have tea like mum and dad - our 6 & 7 year olds love it.

So now you know what all the other Ozbargainers know, get out there and try some!

      • Will it help me get a 6 pack?

      • Thank you guys for enlightening me. Will definitely give it a shot.

        • +2

I don't think it's meant to be shotted

  • I saw this a few weeks ago and bought a few stores out, similiar products at woolworths are around $5 for the same amount. I'm a big fan of Rooibus tea.

  • Went past my local yesterday

They didn't stock rooibos or green tea

Are all Aldi's supposed to carry the same range?

    • been Broden-ed ?

ACtually stock of many products varies store-to-store; Northcote doesn't carry the eggplant dip my mum likes

I work with South Africans unfortunately and they drink rooibos.
Tried it a couple of times and cant get into it, tastes pretty crap imo.
