I use to buy it for the bottle. Refill and reuse.

    • +1

Lots of people do. But lots of people also like to whine on about buying water…

    • +9

yep refill, its glass, has a wide neck so easy to fill or drink from, and width of bottle is easy to hold ….. couldn't find empty in recycle bin so had to buy one …..

      • +5

+1 for scavenging. Still using mine from 2013 lol. Found that one in the recycling bin.

    • -2

Then you realise you're no longer cool, in doing so, when you see every other bogan doing the same thing.

      • -1

Glass is washable not like plastic. Maybe you didn't factor in practicality.

        • why would you need to wash a water bottle that had water in it??? regardless plastic or glass. i can understand the outside getting dirty but you can wash plastic or glass just as easy.

      • +1

Oh come on mate. It's a $3.70 glass bottle which has a good size and shape for a water bottle. Who cares if everybody else is also doing it? Because it's a practical choice. It's not like we stop being Xiaomi battery chargers or Eneloop batteries on Ozbargain just because everybody else is doing so.

More expensive than <$4/L? I doubt it

I didn't say it was, you were talking about tap water and I said we have the most expensive in the country. Our water prices have increased at least 500% in ten years thanks to government incompetence.

        • @Maverick-au: So you'd still get water from your tap over this 'bargain'?

        • @Putnum:

So you'd still get water from your tap over this 'bargain'?

Whilst I rarely buy bottled water this container is quite nice but I buy a 24 pack of the 350ml from ALDI twice a year and refill those using filtered tap water until they're no longer viable and into the recycling bin they go.

If you look at this as a decent refillable container instead of a single use container it makes sense.

        • +2

wouldnt say incompetent ….. if you can raise prices 500% over 10 years and not loose market share or consumption you'd be one of those CEOs who gets a hefty bonus ……

would look good on resume too,

"managed price increase, no loss of market share and actually grew demand …….."

        • @Putnum:

I would, filtered water is fine for me :)

        • @Maverick-au: and the negs and upvotes begin haha. I've always wondered can mods see who negs?

I'm sure they can, they must be Urban Utilities workers angry at me complaining about their water prices.

        • @Maverick-au: Incompetence? I'd say they were doing pretty well at ensuring a small group of already wealthy people get more wealth - at your expense. Your money goes to them now.

Don't vote Liberal or Labour if you don't want this stupidity to go on.

      • The ABS 4610.0 - Water Account, Australia, 2014-15

South Australian households paid the highest retail unit price in 2014-15 for urban distributed water at $4.46 per kilolitre, followed by households in Queensland ($3.50 per kL), the Australian Capital Territory ($3.16 per kL) and Northern Territory ($3.10 per kL). These prices were above the national average of $2.99 per kilolitre; retail unit prices in the other four states were below the national average price.

?The ABS 4610.0 - Water Account, Australia, 2014-15(abs.gov.au)

Thanks but the ABS report is using old data that's not quite correct.

          Queensland
          $48.12 per quarter access charge
$3.52 per kilolitre for the first 74 kilolitres
$4.20 per kilolitre for the remainder

          https://www.urbanutilities.com.au/residential/accounts-and-b…

We used to pay under $1 per kilolitre but they decided to waste over $10 billion on mostly unusable water infrastructure and they forced the councils to spin the water operations into separate companies.

And to top it off they are removing the concessions given to homeowners for hidden water leaks so people are being hit with bills above $10,000 and they are often not notifying homeowners of excessive usage until they get their bill, the problem being that we run up to six months behind on billing of the water usage in QLD. They now offer insurance that you can pay that covers you for hidden leaks.

          South Australia
          $73.10 per quarter access charge
$2.318 per kilolitre for the first 30 kilolitres
$3.308 per kilolitre for 30 to 130 kilolitres
$3.584 per kilolitre for the remainder

          https://www.sawater.com.au/accounts-and-billing/current-wate…

        • @Maverick-au: Pretty impressive incompetence when you consider average rainfall in Brisbane is double Adelaide and further north it is very wet.

Not sure if this takes into account sewerage charges which can be more expensive than water and appear on the same bill.

At what stage can you use Voss to wash your car financially?

    • +10

Only do this for your 80k high yielding investment. Just be sure to tell the boss you are doing this also. A payrise will be the reward.

      • +4

I would also only wash the 80K car in front of my peers to gain respect and build my brand image, that is my name.

        • +1

Great idea! Tell the snob-peers it's original Voss and OZbargain-peers it's refilled Voss, XD.

Not sure why you are posting this on Saturday.
It's Sunday is the traditional day troll deals

  • Always amusing that OzB, where vendors will be abused for "only" 20 percent discounts, has a preferred bottled water brand.

  • +6

Because its a pretty darn good water bottle :)

    • +4

yep….. they should put milk in that bottle , then they could sell it for more than $1 litre.

    • -2

People need to try a proper water bottle, like the Camelbak Podium Chill, then realise what a good water bottle is.

      • +4

I can't see how you can compare the bottles?
A plastic double walled sports bottle does not work half as well for keeping in the fridge at home to use on the table or for guests.

As for a 'good' sports water bottle, I prefer stainless steel not plastic (and have some double walled ones for when insulation is needed).

        • -1

Oh, you just want a $1-2 bottle from the shops, then.

Seriously, the lengths people go to to convince themselves about stuff is unreal.

        • +3

          @Mic Cullen:
          Yes that's all.
A glass bottle with a large mouth and easy to use cap.

When you find some that fit the criteria for $1-2, post the details and it will be an on-going and popular bargain post.

        • @Wolfy:
If you're looking for something to use at home for the guests then you could get these http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/00213558/ They're $2, I bought a few a while back, although that don't seem to hold that much water.

        • +5

          @do minator:
I have a number of those from Ikea and similar 'free' bottles, however the Voss bottles have a much larger mouth and I find them better and easier to clean.

        • @Wolfy: Yes, be sure to clean the water out using water after use, cleaning is essential!

        • @Mic Cullen:

Or just pick one up off the street, take it home and wash it and use it.

        • +4

          @Diji1:

You don't re-use water bottles much, do you? Mineral deposits build up after a while, as well as bacteria. You definitely need to wash them even if all they're holding is water.

        • +1

@44sunsets: and the horrid smell and taste if you have the water sitting there for two days.

        • @do minator:
Sure. These are useful for home use. But you can't just chuck one in your bag if you want a water bottle on the go. The Voss bottles are cheap, good form factor, and able to be used for a variety of purposes. Nobody is buying it for the water.

  • +7

Voss is to bottled water like Maccona is to instant coffee. I buy them just for their containers.

    • +3

Except that I can drink Voss water, but not Moccona coffee.

      • +8

I had this issue to at first, then I read that you have to add boiling water. Did the trick for me.

        • I tried that, even various water-Maccona ratios, just didn't work out for me.

    • +2

      More should be like it.
      Reuse is better than recycle.

  • If they made these Sodastream compatible they'd make a killing I bet!

    • Exploding glass bottles could be lethal!

      • Tru dat. Does the sodastream put out pressure levels that strong?

        • +3

I think maybe around 100~200 PSI.

Mythbusters back in 2005 found that soda bottles burst at 150 PSI
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MythBusters_%282005_season%29#…

Not sure if this is still correct, since 2005 is a long time ago.

        • @scrimshaw: I see. We would do well to restrict our waters to the still and professionally pressurized sort.

        • no, otherwise the bottle would should shoot out of the holder …….. water easily absobs co2. look at the old glass soda bottles that used to take co2 cartridges ….. natural mineral springs etc……. safer than a thermomix ….

    • I wish they sold coles or woolies homebrand mineral water in Soda Stream compatible bottles….. instead of 75c they could $3 …..there is little special about soda stream bottles except the dimensions…… just PTFE.

      • except the dimensions, there in lies the difference.

  • So when does it start and finish? Or is it current?

water bottles by nature are supposed to be tossed around. Not this one. Sticking by my vote.

    • ok so no bars or night clubs for fear of being glassed by drunk patrons.

  • Hi all, if you are pregnant or have children please be aware that sparkling water has Dihydrogen Oxide which if consumed in excessive quantities can be quite toxic for the fetous or child. Fine for Adults i think but check the quantities. Manufacturers vary in how much is contained in the bottle.
