Rapoo V500 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with Black Switches US $15 (AU $19) Delivered @ Joybuy.com

320

Joybuy.com is the english front end of JD.com

very inexpensive mechanical keyboard.

this keyboard uses Rapoo black switches. rather then yellow, blue or brown.

what are the differences in switches? I hear you ask.

Rapoo V500 Black Blue Brown Yellow Switch Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

Rapoo Black Switches
Tactile :NO
Clicky: NO
Actuation Force: 60±20G

Black switches are linear (non-tactile) switches, these are considered one of the best switch types for gaming.
When gaming, having a tactile bump does absolutely nothing because you're going to be bottoming out anyway.
So these give you a very smooth feel.

Rapoo Blue Switches
Tactile :YES
Clicky: YES
Actuation Force: 50g

Blue switches are the best cherry switch for typing.
The tactile bump can easily be felt, and the resistance is similar to your average keyboard.

Rapoo Brown Switches
Tactile :YES
Clicky: NO
Actuation Force: 45g

Brown switches are considered a middle ground between typing and "gaming" switches.
They have a light, tactile feel half way through the key press that lets you know the switch has activated.
This gives you an indication of what you can release the switch.
The switch is considered a middle ground because the reset point & actuation point are close enough together
than you can "float" at that point, enabling you to double tap faster.

Yellow Switches:
Tactile :NO
Clicky: NO
Actuation Force: 50g

Yellow switches are linear (non-tactile) switches, very silent.
Suitable for typing and gaming.

    Customer review:

Delivery 2 months. With delivery a few keys fell off. Left shift sometimes jams, pressed badly, apparently defective switch.

That's what you get buying a keyboard with with 'poo' in its name :(

        Rat Poo even worse.

Bought the Yellow V500 for a mate 3 years ago and its still going strong.
Guy uses it everday in 3D animation.

  • Liking the deal, but for most people you prob should find the AUD out

    • AU$19

  • $15 can't even buy a set of keycaps on ebay, low quility thats obvious.
good deal if u looking for replacement keycaps or switches.

  • joybuy.com not JD.com, misleading.

    • I think it's the same company - this is the global shipping site.

      • it's the same company. joybuy is just the English front door. I have corrected the title. thanks

      • Oh, thanks, learnt now.

I had a rapoo mechanical from msy (maybe this model) but with diferrent switches. It was fine. Lasted about a year & most def worth $15.

  • Is Joybuy ok to deal with?
I have a 2 or 3 year old V500 and once the key pressure evened out (noticeable but no effect on use) it has been great, huge improvement over non mechanical.

    • I've bought a few things from them in the past. everything was good. no hassles. standard chinese shipping like banggood, aliexpress, etc

    60±20G

That's sorta shocking lol. So a key may require 40 grams of force and the key next to it may require 80 grams - 100% more force to make the key move!

    • +1

You know nothing about keyboards or statistics your comments are literal cancer.

      http://cherryamericas.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/EN_CHER…

      • So because cherry makes it to the same specs he/she is an idiot?

If you actually think about what Diji said, it makes perfect sense. Just because its an "industry standard" acceptable tolerance doesn't mean Diji is wrong..

All you had to do was say that this tolerance is normal over a variety of manufacturers and its nothing to worry about.

        also… dont be a prick

        • Diji is wrong, I bet he wouldn't have posted the same comment on a Cherry MX board with unlisted specs. Clearly shows hes unable to either a) tell the difference or b) is unaware of it being an industry standard aka ignorant.

Statistically the possibility of any key being 100% different in actuation force is most likely in the 10^-(3-6) order of probability (more ignorance)

All he had to do was not post a stupid comment but unfortunately it happened, so no.

  • Guess its worth it if the item comes in one piece?

But i have a laptop so i dont need this.

    But this is ozbargain…

    Ill pass, i think

    • Thanks for your insight

  • What's tactile actually mean? (clicky makes sense)

    • +2

The the resistance of the key gets stronger
then weaker (like a 'bump' you need to push past) at the point of actuation. 'Linear' switches are completely smooth until they bottom out, you can't feel the point at which the switch actuates.

      • So the resistance is at the beginning of the key press?

  • Might give this a go for $19.

  • I think I might grab one for a spare even though mine shows zero signs of dying :)
Always handy for trouble shooting other PC as well.

    Thanks OP.

  • Ordered one to try out. Presume it'll be better than typing on a laptop keyboard anyway

  • Do the keys have lights?

    • No, but there are some cheap boards with LEDs - just not this cheap…

      • I order one of these as well to check out, cheapest real backlit I have ever seen (there are dodgy ones that don't shine through the keytops) $11.96 usd.
        https://www.joybuy.com/1007097.html

There is a backlit version of the V500 called the V500S but it is around $90 to well over $100.

        • That's not a mech keyboard…

        • @Nukkels:

No but it is backlit and cheap, I didn't see mech specified.

I personally wanted to see if there was much advantage to a backlit board, if I like it I will keep an eye out for a reasonably priced backlit mech board.

  • When trying to create account, Joybuy's website says "Our system does not support Yahoo mail registrations".
They do accept 10minutemail.com though (temporary email provider). But if you do this, you won't get email confirmations for future orders, and Joybuy won't let you change the email address.

    • Setup a gmail account if you buy from them again and start a new account.
You can go into your account on Joybuy and check progress without your email for now.

      • +1

Thanks for the advice, but I already have a gmail account, I just don't give it out to websites that might send me spam. I use one of my Yahoo email aliases for new registrations.

I wish Gmail supported proper email aliases. I know they have the "name+extension" option, but it is too easily rendered useless by spammers.

Do any of the good free email providers have a good email alias system, so it is possible to have a different email address for every website you sign up to?

  • Does anyone have any recommendations for a specific mechanical typing keyboard?

    • i have been using a razor blackwidow for a couple of years now, and find it a lot better than any generic keyboard. took a bit of getting used to with the noise, but its much nicer feeling. but this is the V1 keyboard, V2 uses rasor made switches and i cant comment on those :P

I had this keyboard and it's pretty good for typing

    • +2

If you like that type of thing….

Looks like the price has gone up to $25.80

Just received my keyboards today, fast shipping, well packed and as described.
I will buy from them again!

  • Happy using it not for gaming but just as a compact keyboard with full-sized keys and no number pad. Been looking a long time for such keyboard at a reasonable price as they all seem to be mechanical gaming or specialised point-of-sale. Thanks OP.

  • Anyone still waiting for delivery in Sydney? A bit concerned seeing as it's been a month and others have received their orders already…

    • +1

      Yeah, received mine in Sydney.

    • Yep haven't received mine either. I'm in Melbourne. Just messaged them.

    • Just received mine today. Kinda disappointed about the 2 week delay from their ETA but for the price it's acceptable. I'm just happy it was delivered in good condition.

  • +1

Mine was delivered in Sydney. Hope those still waiting get them soon.

Got mine today too. Extremely happy with it especially given the price. First time using a mechanical keyboard and loving it.
