  • are they really good? got one before and after 2 months it dosent work anymore

    • +2

I've got quite a few and they're going strong. These ones have the resistor so they should be much safer than generics. They're good when you have HEAPS of micro USB cables lying around.

      • I'm tempted to buy cos so cheap, but can't find a valid reason for using one. Only usb c port i have is in my mi notebook air 12

If you ever get a Type-C phone it'll be worth it. I regret not getting Type-C car chargers and power banks thinking I'd never need them.

        • @Clear: that is a fair point thanks for that mate. At moment quick charge 3.0 is riding my socks on my mi max

      • Bought some, but how do you confirm that these have the resistors? I can't find mention of it in the product description.

        • Amazon review by Benson in my post covers it.

    • thats why they come in a 4 pack. should last you 8 months

      fyi i have a 6 pack

  • Those who ordered this plus the free cable. Check your paypal account if you're actually charged $2.99USD.
Everything was showing $2.99USD even at paypal payment screen, but after paypal has processed it the paypal receipt shows $3.99USD was sent!!
Don't know how this is possible.

  • This is what order email shows.

    4pcs Xiaomi Mi USB Type-C to Micro USB Adapter WP1020390403338 1 $5.99

Not the same as when I proceeded to payment.

    • Subtracted the cable from my order. Message the rep.

      • Thanks.

    • I got that 3.99 when I chose the currency in AUD. But then decided to pay in USD so it is $2.99 USD for me.

  • How did Benson Leung become the authority and spokesperson for USB Type-C?

Why isn't the 'approval' named after the USB standard instead of some Chinese dude?

Does every cable have to get sent to his desk for this approval?

    • When Type-C first became mainstream manufacturers were not following the USB standard, so a Google Engineer set out to test them all and point out those which are not compliant.

These days most Type-C products being released follow the standard, but there will always be that one who will cry wolf with their sheep and say it requires Benson approval.

      • How does a google person have so much clout? Google aren't behind the standard. Was he just a guy who started a list and it became popular enough with users that manufacturers started trying to get his seal of approval?

I honestly don't care about the USB standard, as long as it does the job and doesn't damage my stuff. Benson says any Type-C with QC3.0 is not following the Type-C standard (because it doesn't allow proprietory quick charging standards) and won't get his approval. He recommends MicroUSB for Quickcharge instead of Type-C for no reason other than Type-C arbitrarily decided to forbid it. To me, if the phone is Type-C, then having QC3.0 is more important than one guy's approval.

He actually advised against buying HTC10 and LG G5 because they used QC3.0 + Type-C. It's also important to note that he works for Google and they have their own competing product, the Pixel which he obviously recommends.

He's a stickler for standards for the sake of standards. I just want the better product.

        • He was just a guy that got popular enough that consumers and later on manufacturers wanted his seal of approval. Being a Google Engineer and having a face behind the name gave him more credibility than others.

The QC over Type-C fiasco came around much later and blew up too quickly. The real issue was USB-A to Type-C cables and adapters pulling too much power and causing damage.
