  • can someone confirm if these are good for raid?

also: $10 delivery to syd metro fyi

alsooo: where does it say you can pickup? from what i see you cant pick it up.

    • yeah gotta be careful with that, my seagates keep falling out of the array like its going out of style. have a rebuild every few days, looking to buy another RAID card that supports them a little better…

when you read reviews it very much depends on the raid card you have, many a raid card handle the AS drives with little to no problems.

      • im just using intel matrix software raid… very common setup i assume?

Also on another note… there doesnt appear to be any 7200rpm versions of this drive from what I can see. Have MWave got it wrong? I keep seeing 5400rpm ones however I just read this somewhere "Samsung employs an advanced data recording technology, which brings the next generation technology into today’s single disk platform, enabling Samsung’s new 5400RPM drives to perform at current 7200RPM drive speeds. The internal SysMark test results confirms that F4EG performs as same as 7200RPM drive speeds, and even 10% faster than other green drives."

        • most of 2TB HD around this price are 5400rpm, they are called "green" HD .. for the environment you know. the 7200rpm range are more expensive +$20-30 ?. And the technology SS mentioned could be like overclocking your CPU

          • @NeoWilson: Nah.. The reason for the 'as fast as 7200RPM' claim is due to the layer density, perpendicular recording, blah, blah, blah…

If you compare a similar tech'd 7200RPM vs these, it'd lose, but they compare it to more 'old school' 7200RPM figures.

Don't get me wrong, these drives are still nice and fast at 5400RPM, I just don't like the crud they spew out. [ie. Samsung Marketing]

      • My Seagates (4 x 2TB) have been fine in a QNAP NAS for over 6 months.

Had no end of trouble with 4 x 500Gb Samsungs though (4 replaced under warranty including one of the warranty replacments!).

        • yeah they tend not to like hardware raid cards though (internal) RAID f5 seems like a bugga!

    • alsooo: where does it say you can pickup? from what i see you cant pick it up.

you just select the "pickup" option in the "Delivery Address" part of the checkout process

Note: not sure if Saturday pickup is available

      • I believe he's referring to the availability section;

        Availability:
        Online Warehouse: YES
        Instant Pickup: NO

And being unsure of how MWave operate, I can't enlighten anyone. Maybe you can pickup from the online warehouse after ordering, but it's not instant??

        • yeah its pretty confusing

        • +1

          Instant Pickup:

refers to walking into the shop and asking for the product

  • Price on the title please.

  • "Byte per Sector - 4K Sector with Emulation"

Why would you want to emulate 4K sectors?

    • You read that wrong. It's 4K Sectoring, with emulation for those that don't support it.

  • neg for wrong specs. its a 5400rpm drive not 7200rpm

  • cheapest shipping for me in Vic is "Toll IPEC Road $16.63" so total is $117 + $16.63 = $133.63

msy are currently selling samsung 2TB (dont state model) for $129

so for me its not much of a bargain - Im really starting to dislike online stores that lower their selling price to make it look like a bargain then bump up the shipping charges

  • +1

I've never had good luck with samsung drives, the service over the phone is bad and I had 4 HDD replaced within a year.

I don't buy anything with Samsung on it any more.

    Just my opinion I guess.

  • Availability:
    Online Warehouse: YES
    Instant Pickup: NO

I think it means supposely its in stock but you CAN NOT go and pick it up straight away.
You'll need to first order it online, then wait for their confirmation before finally picking it up at the premise.
That's what happened with my last order.

  • they seem to have two products listed for the 2tb samsung. the one on special has a UZ4 suffix? any know what this means?
