Digital SLR/Compact Camera Madness Sale on ShoppingSquare & Bonus $25 Voucher

77

I received an email today alerting me to this. There are some fantastic deals including:

Canon Powershot SX210IS for $273 incl. postage! I priced this to buy last weekend and it was $499 in JB-HI-FI & Harvey Norman & slightly more in Dick Smith.

Other great deals are on SLRs inlcuding:

Nikon D5000 Kit (18-55mm VR) DSLR @ $602.95 which is a saving of around $600.

and

Nikon D5000 Body Black DSLR $502.85 saving about $560.00 from instore prices.

The other great bonus from this sale is that all the cameras (well, at least all that I have viewed) come with a 1 yr warranty within Australia.

Also, when you buy a camera from this deal you receive a $25 voucher for shoppingsquare.com

I've previously used this site & found it to be of great value. :)

$99 shipping is megafail and negates the $25 voucher

also this is grey stock so they should be a lot lower than local stock

    • also the reported local stock price is inflated, this sounds like a shrill

  • I assume Grey Stock means it is stored overseas? Does this mean it is a different model to an Australian Model?

Nikon D5000 Kit (18-55mm VR) DSLR @ $602.95 works out to be $676.95, which still tempts me.

Compared to the Cannon SLR posted up yesterday this Nikon does have 720p Video recording.

    • Wait can the $25 voucher be used on the DLSR purchase? If not, I am sure it could go towards a memory card.

It means you only get a warranty provided by shopping square, not Nikon, aside from that, and maybe needing an adapter for any power plugs, they are the same

      • andy

All the cameras will be provided with Australian plug

SO FAIL, hate it when they 'deflate' the price of the item then make it back in shipping.. 99 Bucks is a joke! NEG. You are far better of buying cameras from eglobaldigitalcameras, citiwide, dwi etc..

    • -1

Sorry mate, eglobaldigitalcameras charges AU$73.25 for postage, AU$631.38 for the camera, total>$700. Shopping square is defiantly cheaper.

this company is so dodgy, dealt with them before…and never again!

  • Grey Stock, sounds like Grey Import to me. A camera I bought from them was just that. I am not so sure about local warranty.

    $79 shipping to Adelaide!!

    These are grey stock…

For Digital Camera, Video Camera orders - the items will be shipped directly from Oversea Supplier by Fedex, DHL or EMS. It take no more than 3-5 working day to arrive anywhere in Australia.

ShoppingSquare.com.au Australia provide Australian local Warrant Service for all the Direct Ship Offer items

Not sure I would trust shopping square with a warranty

    also not the cheapest….

    shopping square = $541 shipped
    http://buymart.com.au/panasonic-lumix-dmcfz100-black-p-44435… = $516 shipped

Avoid this woeful company like the plague….

They buggered up an order I cancelled and it took 3 months to get a refund after threatening them with the small claims tribunal. I had to do all of the chasing up and they blamed their mistake on a trainee error yet I still had to pay.

    Pathetic communication, awful customer support

Please avoid them like. Spend a little more elsewhere

    k, deal good, company shit.

If the feedback is this bad, can bargains from this company be banned?

  • I don't think imports are any bad, say SLR, the whole thing is exactly the same except the warrantee bit. but tell me where you can get a:

    EOS 7D body for $1379 + Shipping
    http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/p_58041_Canon_EOS_7D_Body_S…
    EOS 550D body for $665 + Shipping
    http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/p_58038_Canon_EOS_550D_KISS…

around AUD$200 off other grey importers!

Direct Shipping Offer = need to pay 10% GST on items over $1000 (INCLUDING freight)

    So a $1379 Canon 7D is $1478 with $99 freight. Add $147.80 GST = $1625.80 (plus $25 voucher)

Compare to http://www.d-d-photographics.com.au/canoneos7d.htm = $1609 plus $25 freight from a reputable grey market dealer.

Nikon D90 comes to $788 on DWI

veritas, just send a price match request to us.
we match it plus $25 discount voucher.

  • It always interests me to hear people have issues with shopping square. I have bought a few things from them, ranging from computer accessories to camera memory cards, and earlier this year a camera.
The camera I got cost me $372 posted inc. 8gb memory card, where the cheapest elsewhere was camera only for $400+ (rrp was $450).

I will admit though, I have only ever order from them when they have free/$1 postage, so I have avoided the massive postage costs (and I remember the camera took longer to get here than I usually expect) but for the price I couldn't complain.

If people are willing to take a risk without a factory warranty, this seems to give an opportunity to upspec to a higher model for a similar price to what the lower model is in store.

I guess the thing is that, (service and postage issues aside), shopping square are clearly not the cheapest. There are retailers providing comparable (and in many cases better) service than SS for lower cost.

Which is why we're all here :)

  • Sometimes, I surprise, few stores retain their -ves, like this one. Otherwise, Mod removes them saying off topic. or even revoke the -ves
I had pathetic experience with COTD, still anything written for them is wiped off, as it never existed.
So I really doubt the behavior of moderators going on here in Ozbargain.

    • there are neg rule for ozbargain post.

some buyer may have their own experience for store to share, and neg the deals from the store. However, it's the not the way use neg in ozbargain.

    • I believe all the online store top player must having a reasonable service and price in order to keep their top ranking. (at least all of the trade rule must be matched with Australia Department of Fair Trading)

100% customer satification is the goal and that's the key of sucess for these big players. however, 100% is more likely an ideal case only. in case of 0.1% unsatified buyer may happened. For the big dealers with half a million or even 3 million buyers, these 0.1% can be thoursands of unhappy customers. if 10% of those are ozbargainers. that can be couple hundreds members who are willing to share his "bad" experience here.

  • Guys. Please

    • Vote on the product and the offer, rather than the company's postage cost.
    • Please do not compare just postage with other companies, but rather comparing the overall cost (product + postage)
  • Does the 25$ deal apply for the 5d mark ii body ? Its adv at 2280 + 99 shipping. With the 25/- deal its a bit better at 2355/- Else I'll buy used for 2K
