Why Is No One Posting MSY's Latest Deal Purchase VivoMini Barebone PC and Receive 500GB Samsung Evo 850 SSD ?

http://edm.msy.com.au/16082017/online/aaa.html

Deals cover

VivoMini VC65-G065M
VivoMini VC65R-G001M
VivoMini VC65R-G002M
VivoMini VC65-G066M

All of them i5-6400T barebone.

I am a bit outdated with these, but a quick look online looks like they are cheaper than else where, even without the free Evo 850 SSD.

Are these models too old? or they are actually not a deal?

Take a chance and post it.

I am scared to hell posting something I have not "research" before :-)

People who are in the market for one will know if it's a good deal and let everyone else know in the comments/voting. If it turns out to be a bad deal it doesn't mean you are a bad person.

  • I hear you.
Posted a couple of items a while back and the Ozbargain vigilante bullies were getting their knifes stuck into my back using rather harsh attacks on a well meaning Ozbargainer because I didn't personally visit every single online and mortar shop around the world if there wasn't a deal $0.01 cheaper.
After that I never posted anything again. I seen many great bargains but to be honest I dont have the time to satisfy the criteria of those bullies and can't be bothered anymore.
Recently for example had a great deal on HP ink cartridges saving me approx 30%.
I know these same vigilantes will again attack me now. But I yet have to see any items they post themselves, they prefer to sit on the fence and attack others.

    • Considering the SSD itself is worth almost half of the price - I personally think this is pretty good. Plug in some RAM and it's ready to go. A good alternative to the NUCs for HTPC projects.

Cmon, they told you that the app and device was discontinued so it was next to useless.

What else would you rather they did for you and potential buyers?

I just read through every single comment and no one got personal! No one said shit about you, or for not researching first, it's all about the device itself.

Those so called "bullies" are the very reason why people can come to this site and know that everything they see is truly a bargain and the best deal going for whatever it is.

I don't know why people take neg votes to heart it's not like people here are abusive if they are report them.

        I know right.
I would've thought jv would've died from all the neg votes to him over the years weeks. Not only that his corpse should've burnt up into pure charcoal and dissolved into the atmosphere so that not even the worms and maggots could recycle his negged body. Eventually that charcoal piece would float out of the atmosphere and into outer space, where it will travel for many lightyears, long after the human civilisation has passed, and come across a lonesome planet. Here, I think it might crash into the ocean and mix with the water which would anger the Gods who would neg the ocean with their lightning bolts. Unknowingly, this final neg will spring jv back to life as it breeds with the water molecules and creates complex proteins. And before long a retarded fish frog jv will slide out of the waters and crawl into land. Here jv will spread his negativity with the rocks in the ground and they will sprout negative trees and negative plant life. The Gods would be so angered they would leave that planet, leaving our negatron jv alone in this barren land. So jv will take one of his negative ribs and create a negative wife which we'll call Meg. JV and Neg will breed alien life into this barren planet and civilisation will kick off. Retarted fish frog jv will die, and his corpse will enrich the oceans with even more negativity so that whirlpools, floods and tsunamis are invented. Back on land, someone will invent magic and patent it, and with it will create the iNeteret. That will spark the start of the prophesy, as the promised prince, the perfect jv is born. He will live a nice fulfilling life until one day he discovers AlienozBargain, and the cycle repeats itself.

    Hi JPL,

It is almost never a good idea to build a PC from a single source.
    Why?
Because in terms of problems, they're all equally likely to sell you a lemon.
So there's really nothing to gain. Which is why its actually better to buy parts from various sources to get the best value.

Besides, if you read the condition of that sale it is if you buy ALL the components.
And IN-STORE ONLY. So it is heavily reliant on STOCK availability.
And even if the store had the parts you wanted, who is to say MSY themselves didn't artificially pump up the prices 2 weeks prior?

So to cut through the fat, I went and tried to compile a build myself.
The first thing I noticed is that many of the mid-range products (ie/ the better value) have been sold out.
So I was pushed to either paying excess for a mid-range build, or step further up for a high-end build.
I chose to go with the high-end as it seemed to make the most sense. Also I noticed a lack of parts for a small mATX build, so I was essentially forced to go the route of high-end full-sized Desktop build.
To start, I had to choose a CPU as this dictates the motherboard and ram (slightly).
I went with AMD, since RyZen offers better value in general, and that AM4 motherboard is much more valuable now than Intel's mobos which are about to expire and not support the next chipset. I figured not to cheap out on the motherboard, to ensure OC, BIOS updates, and RAM compat. Also wanted some of the niceties that are USB-C, Built-in Wifi. And because this is a high-end build, I figured it should be RGB to get those extra placebo frames. So I went with the R7 1700 ($423), and ASRock X370 ($299).

Next came the RAM. Since its RyZen, we need high-speed RAM to take full advantage. I also payed a small premium to speed up with RGB for the Corsair Vengeance ($279). It's 2x 8GB which is enough, but we can add another 2x 8GB after a year when the prices drop, and since our mobo supports it.

Next comes the Power Supply. We don't need much, however, because we're going with a high-end build its silly to go with a cheap knock off. Also it needs to be a decent efficiency (at least Bronze), and modular in case we need to add extra parts to the build years later. The ThermalTake 750W PSU ($75) looked to be the best and cheapest, and its also RGB, so our frame rates won't suffer.

Before we go to the ever important GPU, I figured we should have a look our Storage as it is more important.
Since we're doing a proper build here, its imperative that we start with a SSD. And to offer better airflow (and possible future salvage for laptops), we go with the M.2 form factor. I'm sorry to say there are no RGB variants here, so our frame rates will suffer slightly. We also need a decent amount, I figured ~512GB at least to install the OS, all Apps, and some files. The best value I found was the WD Blue 512GB ($235). Now we can move on and always add a HDD from somewhere else for cheaper in the future. However, I actually saw a price for HDD that was cheap. It was the SeaGate Baracuda 7200rpm/64MB with 4TB storage for a nice price ($172) and we'll take it to take advantage of the 15% discount.

Now we're almost done, so lets get it all in a cheap case first.
Since we've gone the RGB route it has to have a side-window, and the cheapest one that doesn't suck looks to be the ThermalTake Versa ($75). Its slightly smaller than full-sized which is a good thing as it would look good on a desk, and not as atrocious in a living room. It's also White, so it will really stand out with the black innards and the RGB lighting. I figured we would add separate RGB strips and RGB fans in the future/somewhere else since they're quite overpriced here.

So that brings our total to… drumroll…. AU$1,623. Let's just call it 16hundred.
But we have no video, so we need a GPU graphics card. And if we were working in a budget, now, I would be thinking it has to be under $400…. so that the total is $1,999. Back a few months that could've almost bought us a GTX 1070, so sweet, right? Our only requirement here is to try to stick to that budget and go with our running theme: full-sized, full-power, full-rgb.

The only card I found that fits in our budget is the RX 570. That's a card which is equal to, or sometimes slower than the GTX 1060-3GB/GTX 970. Yikes.
But wait, we have the 15% off! So we can afford to blow our budget a little, yay!
So we'll go with the ASUS "Dual" 1070. It's not RGB, so expect to halve the framerates. It does come in a White colour, which matches the case, and will save some of those frames. Of course, its not cheap, and comes in at $659 which is average market price currently.

That brings our total to $2,282.
    Add the 15% discount (x 0.85) = $1,939.
That's not a phenomenal price, and nothing to write home. Remember, we were very intelligent with our choices, and we chose things that were in the same class and cheaper out at any chance. On top of that, we still haven't thrown in any extra case rgb fans. Nor did we even include a compulsory rgb strips, or the optional os license. Overall, if you shop around you could beat this price. So its not really worth heading down to your local MSY and hoping the parts are there.

Thanks Kangal this is so helpful. I will get my son to read this, he wanted to assemble his own PC.

On the other hand, I wanted to get a mini PC, and also happens to be in the same MSY deal page right at the bottom for

      VivoMini VC65-G065M
      VivoMini VC65R-G001M
      VivoMini VC65R-G002M
      VivoMini VC65-G066M

      $569 - $579

These four models come with a free 500GB Samsung Evo 850 SSD and the SSD alone is about $234. So $569 for an i5-67400t including the SSD sounds like a good deal.

VivoMini VC65-G065M alone cost $629 from MWAVE and various ebay sellers are from $661 to $760

I have not been following the development of PC for many years, so a bit outdated. They might be EOL, I will do a bit more research first.

      Cheers

  • What's the difference in the models, which is the better of the 4?
