  • Are you able to name some branches with stock please?

    • +1

Right now I don't have the information on what stores do or don't have it, but most stores should have them in stock. Might be an idea to call your local store before heading off.

      • +2

Thank you. I asked because whenever Chemist Warehouse have a really good price - especially fragrances - the item suddenly cannot be ordered online.

  • Pretty good deal considering the brush has a Li-On battery

      • +3

Because you can brush your teeth with Lithium ion battery?

  • +4

Not down on the deal BUT Massive amount of wank with this brush (bluetooth, LED's with 12 colours for brushing technique feedback etc) and it's about time they put a Li-On battery in their brushes considering the preposterous price - especially given products costing massively less have had Lithium batteries for years. Vastly superior to the Ni-MH and Nicad's Oral-B still force upon consumers.

You're right, no social media integation is a bit disappointing.

      • +3

Yeah, there is - through Oral B app - "Part of your session will be recorded and at the end you’ll be able to share your GIF selfie with your friends and family."

      • +4

Download the latest app … Check the settings, there's an option to update your Facebook status everytime you brush, along with the timing to show how awesome your brushing was.

The next version will also post what you ate for breakfast and dinner and detect whether it was delicious or not.

        • -1

Ahh, do you mean the 'Explorer 8000 Proctologist's black edition'?

    • +4

"Massive amount of wank with this brush"

Sounds like you have confused a separate type of vibrating electrical device..?

    • Who cares?

    • It comes with a phone holder, like wat?!

  • Is this the one with the chargeable case?

  • +3

I have had OralB 7000 for years. Have just switched across to the Sonic toothbrushes. Have tried Phillips, Xiaomi, Kogan, They all perform better than these rotating brushes. Would highly recommend them based on how much better then appear to clean teeth.

Edit- Not sure if it has been fixed in Oral-B new Toothbrushes but the charging time was ridiculous long.

    • Why is virbration better then rotating?

Also what batteries do the Phillips have?

    • +1

So you recommend anything else other than oral b?

And reg charging times this one will be better since it has li ion.

    • +1

Which is best? Where does the Xiami sit?

      • +1

Number 2 after phillips, but number 1 on value

    • +1

Honestly I am not entirely sure how it performs better, but my dentist has been really impressed by the reduction of plaque I have been able to maintain with the new brush. It had Ni-Mh admittedly, this this 8000 may have better charging times.

    • +2

The Phillips is truly the best but the value proposition it offers is a little too ridiculous when you build in the crazy high barrier to entry price and expensive brush heads.

Kogan does the trick, brush heads I feel are a little to soft and battery life not that great if you plan to take travelling and can be picked up every month or two for like $39

Xiaomi, I picked up for $50, brush heads I pick up on sale mostly from gearbest (other day was 2 for $13+p). I personally think it offers the best value for money. As long as if you can handle using a power adapter for charging (Mine is US plug).

I borrowed the Phillips for 3 weeks (Bought my own brush heads, I'm not an animal). Own the Kogan (was my first purchase and honestly is still pretty good for the price) and xiaomi. Xiaomi is my daily driver.
      • Thanks. Asked this question on Xiaomi thread and didnt get a reply. I was always curious with sonic ones as their head is bigger, so maneuver and small gaps will be left compared to round small head?
Will try Xiaomi. Glad some chineese companies are providing quality products for less than half price when global giants are becoming greedy.

      • +1

Which model Philips did you borrow?

I am thinking of buying either the xiaomi or a base model Philips which works out the same price after the ebay 20% off

        http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Philips-Sonicare-Rechargeable-Elect…

        • The only concern for the xiaomi is the replacement heads.. I have no idea where to get them locally or if anyone similar heads that can replace them. on gearbest 2xheads are 12.60AUD which works out 6.3 each..

        • @dingdong3000:

They seem readily available at gearbest and other China sites, far cheaper than sonicare heads

        • @jjsnacks: How long does the toothbrush last before you need to replace the heads?

        • @Clementt:

Not sure, I don't have one but I read about 3 months for the sonicare

        • FYI, I bought 2 Philip Diamond clean. both died right after 1 year period(cant charge any more)
          Not buying any more

    • +1

studies have shown the rotating brush works better than vibration in the long run but both are equally as effective in the first 3 months. i have seen great results with both kinds on my patients after they ditch the manual toothbrush. i personally prefer the vibration and i feel that my teeth are cleaner.

In terms of which mechanism of action is better between Philips or Oral-B the results are less conclusive. In a study published in 2010 by Cochrane, they found that Oral-B oscillating rotating reduce gingivitis more than sonic brushes in the short term. The better mechanism of action goes to Oral-B.

All the Oral B high end brushes are full of wank, as Nikko pointed out. They are at a point where they need to add extra useless features to justify the exorbitant price. All a brush needs to do is rotate, its only in this day and age people need a timer, blue-tooth connection etc all…brushing your teeth isn't rocket science, or maybe for some it is! Anything above an Oral B 3000 is just throwing money down the sink..

    • The 1000 is the peak in terms of brushing performance (AU model, US is lesser) but the battery isn't too flash.

      • Ahh I wasn't aware of that, I thought the 3000 was, brushing power is all you need, apart from decent battery life.

        • Yeah they don't make it very obvious. I found some specs in The Shaver Shop.

Also the 1000 in the US has lower specs so you can be misled if searching online.

A good site that rates and reviews Sonicares and Oral B electric toothbrushes is animated-teeth.com. Lots of detail and they don't hold back with their reviews.

    • I agree on most of that except for the anything above 3000 bit. I have one and it doesn't do as good of a job as my 5000 one. Brush heads seem to last longer too. My only annoyance is the timed vibration as you are supposed to clean your teeth on a schedule.

  • +1

The refills are usually white colored, so more like "white power" than silver power.

I just bought Colgate brushes for 3$ each(half price) at woolies. Just letting people know about the alternative bargains.

    • -3

Why am I being downvoted ?

  • +6

I've had this for a few months. The regular price is $149, so it's not really $160 off, it's $10 off.

It's definitely a good toothbrush, but the Bluetooth stuff is a useless gimmick. I've only connected it once to set the colour of the LED. The position tracking doesn't really work very well, and even if it did, nobody could be bothered getting their phone out and setting it up every time they want to brush their teeth.

Also, the charger is 240v only. That's pretty pathetic for something that people need to take with them when they travel overseas. What do they expect you to do, buy a second one to travel with?

    • Actually only $10 off? Not a good look for chemist warehouse to dip its toes here with that kinda priceswaps..

      • +1

Savings based on RRP is the chemist warehouse motto

    • +1

      Single charger though

  • hmm not sure who would pay $300 for a toothbrush. oral b is great but don't think these are even $300 currently elsewhere

  • I have the Oral B 7000 and the two things I like are:
    a) It will beep in 30 second increments so you know how long to spend cleaning in a quadrant.
    b) the red light shows, and it stops cleaning, when you press too hard.

When I explained to a friend, who is a mother, about the blue tooth options on some of the brushes she thought it would be good for her kids (and maybe her) as you could track how well they were brushing their teeth.

My other half is currently paying the consequences of neglecting his teeth as a child, so that might be useful for some parents.

    • Haha those points you like are found on the 1000! Didn't have to pay 6000 more ;)

      • -1

        didnt pay 6000 more.

  • Chemist Warehouse at Castle Towers as of about an hour ago I think had 1 left.

I am happy with my $10 Woolworths branded electric toothbrush..

  • the most important thing with the with kids Oral B is the remote display, which tells the parent if the kids did 2 stars (1 minute) or 4 stars (2 minutes)

  • Any one had luck with a price match at Myer? they told me it's below there cost but I have some vouchers to use up with them that expire soon which is a little annoying… :-(

  • I bought two
    hopefully this worths the money

    • Isnt there a Dual one for $199 at David Jones?

  • 2 units = 2 chargers

  • Cheers got one and enjoying using it. Haven't had an electrical one for ages but the last one I had wasn't as good as this one. So far enjoying using it and it feels pretty good after using it too.

  • Picked one up at Westfields Parramatta about 1230 today, looked like at least 2 more available.
