All-You-Can-Eat-BBQ... Not Quite... Scoopon / Bisq

People are going to be PISSED!

I'm referring to the recent Scoopon Deal which was $20 for an 'ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT Brazilian BBQ' which 4,318 people bought. Turns out to be pretty sketchy.

I bought 10 considering it seemed like a pretty awesome deal and I was sure I could get 10 willing participants. When we arrived, we were seated and I noticed a sign on a wall directed to Scoopon Users. It stated that Scoopon users were entitled to ALL-THEY-CAN-EAT from the salad buffet, plus 1 of each of the following types of meat (the portions were pretty small). I brought the Scoopon page up on my phone just to check the Ts and C's… Nothing about it. It says "ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT BRAZILIAN BBQ". So It's pretty much blatent false advertising (confirmed by the law students at our table).

I kicked up a fairly big stink about it, and after a long time, the boss ended up agreeing to honour it.

Anybody else had any experiences yet?

    • Shame you can't even spell my name but at least you didn't use caps this time.

    • Thankx Sandman…followed your instructions and got my refund.

    Entertainment book > Scoopon

    • +2

      Definitely.

A friend had an issue recently with Taco Bill not accepting the Entertainment Book coupon for the "lunch special". After called Ent Book they apologised, put the restaurant right and sent $50 in vouchers plus other goodies.

That's service, not the half hearted attempt shown here.

  • Churras isn't accepting Ouffer vouchers which is pretty bullshit. Never buying a voucher from Ouffer, Scoopon or anything similar ever again. I urge everyone to submit a formal complaint to the ACCC for misleading, deceptive advertising. It would be so great to see these companies get slammed with an ACCC penalty, hopefully teaching them a lesson about business ethics or putting them out of business forever (with their tactics, they don't deserve to be in business)

So please guys, make a formal complaint to the ACCC. These companies probably think most consumers out there don't know their rights and will just give up if they have been ripped off. Know your rights (ACCC website) and don't give in to this crap.

    • this is a bisq thread, good advice but kind of irrelevant to this unless they do the same…havent heard any complaints since scoopon had a chat to them.

    • When you say "these companies" - do you mean companies like Churras? or do you mean the voucher companies?

      • I mean the voucher companies. At the end of the day, our contract is with Scoopon/Ouffer. Scoopon/Ouffer have a contract with bisq/Churras. It's the responsibility of the voucher selling websites to make sure Bisq or Churras stick to the contract that was made.

In my case, Churras is only accepting 30 vouchers a night. If Ouffer put that condition in the contract with Churras then they should've mentioned it to everyone who was purchasing tickets. If Churras decided to only accept 30 vouchers without the consent of Ouffer, then Ouffer should be the one who goes after Churras for breaking their contract.

Yeah I understand it's a Bisq thread but for some reason they closed the original Churras thread and this was a similar sort of situation (from the comments).

"They" didn't close the thread. The site automatically closes threads after a certain period of time automatically. I've opened it up for you again so that you can discuss with people in the same situation.

        • I apologise if my use of the word "they" was rude, Neil. Thank you for opening up the thread. Much appreciated.

Actually I don't really think we should blame the sites that are selling the vouchers. It's the business themselves that are creating all these troubles! I have used groupbuy vouchers with any problems so far..

  • No problems in obtaining 4 refunds for me. A very smooth process and no issues at all. Perhaps it helps if you ask nicely?

I will still be shopping with Scoopon again.

  • Very eye-opening. The only group-buy voucher I've ever bought was the GrabOne $3 movie ticket deal. Haven't used it yet. I don't think I will ever use scoopon, not after all that has happened here.

  • Anyone eaten at Bisq since "the incident"?

Their online booking (dimmi) isn't accepting bookings, the number listed as their BBQ phone number rings out, their main number goes to a fax machine. Tried the mobile number listed but they were unable to access the booking book until tomorrow. Odd, will post back if I hear anything.

    • My parents were around early December and wanted to bring them to Bisq. As you said their number rings out, I left a message to make a reservation but no one bothered getting back to me, so in the end I e-mailed Scoopon for a refund which they obliged, although the refund process did take a while. Am interested to know if anyone else managed to dine there lately.

Is it just me or have anyone else noticed Scoopon and issues when redeeming the vouchers are now becoming a common theme?

    • People like to complain or at least feel like if they have a bad experience with a company they need to share it with the world. Just yesterday I noticed someone signup to Whirpool and complain about a group buy deal. They then word for word copied the same story here into 2 threads. I guess you could say the same about the news. You never hear much about the government doing things right but you sure do when they screw up.

In any case, this is my only Scoopon purchase but perhaps my 8th or so group buy purchase. All the rest went as expected. I think as this market progresses group buy companies will have the experience of dealing with questionable venues. I'm already seeing caps on the amount sold of some deals which is a step in the right direction.

      • Just made a reservation. Was asked if I am using coupons and said yes. I quizzed the person on the phone if that made a difference and they stated no. All you can eat, no problem.

Very friendly. Will see how we go in a couple of weeks.

  • Hi there,

I am from Western Australia. 27th January I bought a $49.00 hairdressing deal from Scoopon, the salon is Cut Above (NOT). Over several days of being on the phone trying to reach this salon(engaged constantly)I finally was able to (on 2 occasions) hear the phone rining but they did not pick up. I left a message and waited for them to return the call….they didn't. The next time I called there was a message saying that if you are a Scoopon customer you are not to leave a message but to keep trying to get through. If you are a regular customer then you may leave a message. I did however leave a message and this time they took the trouble to email me, thanking me for my calls but that I was to keep trying as they couldn't take my appointment by email. And they ignored my answering machine message!!! I emailed the salon to say I was over this game!

About 2,000 people responded to the Cut Above deal in which the salon promises 2 salon visits. That means 4,000 visits by Scoopon customers to their salon and $90,000 in their coffers. The offer is for cut, blow dry, foils, hair dye etc…so this would average out to about 2 hours for each appointment/visit. I make that to be around 8,000 hours that they have to do to get through the Scoopon customers and this is in addition to their regular customers.

I have sent about 3 emails to Scoopon to request a refund by Friday, 11th February. At the time of writing, Scoopon have not even responded to say they would get back to me.

I believe that it is Deceptive and Misleading practice as Scoopon have failed to mention in their advertising that there would be signficant restrictions in regard to Scoopon customers ie; that there would be delays in booking an appointment at a time of my choosing. I have been in touch with the Consumer Affairs Authority in Victoria and if I don't hear from Scoopon as regards a refund by Friday 11th February, I will be sending all correspondence to them.

    All I want is a refund…….

    • Hi Rustica,

Just checking in to see if you have received our email from the Support Team to resolve your query.
If not, please advise us and we'll get the Support Team to send it again from our secondary email system.

      Kind Regards,
      Team Scoopon.

  • BTW, we used ours a few weeks ago, sooo disappointed, waiting for ever for rounds of meat, the only reason we got anything decent was because other tables didn't want their meat, (they come round to tables offering meat to each person, so its not like its seconds meat at least)
our portion sizes where much smaller than every one else's, at the end of it it certainly wasn't all you can eat. (a quick look around showed others had slabs of meat and we had offcuts)

they tried to separate our group of 8 even though we booked, and where there before many other groups.

there where 7 of us in total, so 140 bux… (plus drinks!), what a waste! if they would have given us more we would have left earlier and freed up the table for others, (as other full paying customers did)

I originally wanted to use it for a family members birthday(as a gift), but as they weren't doing the BBQ around that time, couldn't.

    I could go on…

I wont be back again. shame considering I've been there before and it wasn't too bad…

its easy to see why they have so many negative reviews, guess they will learn the power of the internet LOL.

I emailed scoopon with a more detailed review, they just said, thanks, they will take it on board…

I'm very reluctant to use coupons again due to the negative experience.
guess it also made scoopon look bad…

    • Pretty disappointing that even after all this time and all the complaints… They can't get it right.

  • Hi All,
I've been chasing Scoopon for a refund on 2 unused Bisq vouchers for nearly 2 months now but still haven't received anything. I originally emailed them directly with no luck so I lodged an enquiry through there website and got a ticket number and a short response from them requesting for further information which i had given them in the first place. Since then i have not heard anything back.
This is what i wrote in my email:
    "Hi,
I request for a full refund for 2 vouchers and have listed the reasons as below:
    1. Scoopon number/s: 4986238662273-1 and 4986239162273-5
    2. Barcode number/s (printed just below the barcode): 0120437 and 0120455
    3. Email address which was used to make this purchase: [email protected]
    4. Last 4 digits of the credit card used for payment: xxxx (Visa) or xxxx (Amex)
    5. Scoopon Deal Title: ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT Brazillian BBQ at Bisq Bar and Grill! Delicious!

    • The contact phone number provided on the voucher is always unattended making it extremely difficult to contact them and make a booking. I eventually got hold of them by going through an alternative number listed on their website.
    • I have tried numerous times to make a booking for 2-3 weeks in advance but have always been unsuccessful as I was told to call back closer to the date. However this is unreasonable and I end up with no booking.
    • The conditions on the coupons did not specify that the voucher can only be redeemed on Fridays and Saturdays.
    • For period of time between December 2010 and January 2011 the restaurant was closed and their website specified that all coupons be honoured and expiration date extended. However, I have contacted them today and was advised that it won't be extended.

Due to the difficulties in booking because of the restrictions imposed by the restaurant which were not clearly specified in the conditions of sale and their questionable business conduct, I am no longer interested in redeeming my vouchers. Hence I request a full refund for both vouchers!

I've attached a scanned copy of the 2 vouchers with this email for your reference."

Mr Scoopon, if you see this post please respond urgently before i go to the ACCC! My ticket ID is UHP-471492.
