        • I've had the opposite experience, unsuccesful tracking of items with buckscoop, but no problems at all with MBC.

  • just bought it, thanks scotty!

  • Thanks Scotty I just ordered one. This is a ridiculous deal :) My friend bought the same model with i3 processor and 3gb ram for over 800 bucks a few months ago, and he absolutely loves it! I particularly like the matte screen. Only thing is I did not know I could get a further 5% off through websites like Buckscoop.

    • Yes you will be able to get cashback through MoneyBackCo and Buckscoop (if they have done the tracking properly). The affiliation commission is outside the normal Dell discount system.

      • Hi sorry to ask such a stupid question but how?

I already purchased the laptop, is it too late now?

        • Best to cantact Dell to cancel the order and get refund then order again with affiliate link.

      • Sorry to ask … how to make use of MBC? I have an account with MBC and so far I have no issue with MBC.
I tried the link from MBC, and put in the evaluecode … but the price comes to $1099.00

        Any help is appreciated.

  • Anyone know of any successes installing OSX on one of these Vostro machines ?

    • I googled, had the same idea, and saw no good links. So I am going to go with- difficult

  • I think the $659.40 Original Deal is still available… Just not the upgraded one for $778… ad the link still works for me.

  • Seems to be pretty good deal!

  • It seems Dell also had the i7 640m version for $899 (similar % discount to the other two) - doesn't seem to be active any more either.
Many people seem to indicate that the i7 has a higher idle (and maximum) power usage (approx 15W more) so runs through the battery quicker!

So it seems the $779.41 was the best value because compared to the $659.40 model you get additional HD space (320GB > 500GB), Illuminated Keyboard (vs non-illuminated), faster chip (i5 450m > i5 520m), Nvidia 310m 512MB Dedicated Graphics (vs Intel Integrated), and a heavier duty Power Supply (65W > 90W).

    • If anyone know what the E-value code/link is for this "i7 640m version for $899", would you please post it here? Many thanks

      • As I said the link "doesn’t seem to be active any more" - it just generates an error…
Otherwise I would have posted it :)

  • i called up and sales rep told me it comes with xp pro and info so then you can upgrade to win 7 32 bit. not 64 bit. as u need to pay more and order from MS. is this correct? i think he wasnt sure what he was saying even though he said hes 100% sure its only upgradeable to 32 bit even thought the H/w is 64bit.

    • It will run 64 bit windows no problem but Dell don't give you the option so you'll have to go out and buy it separately at your own expense. Exactly what I intend on doing for what it's worth!

    • The Win 7 keys I have work for 32 bit or 64 bit so I don't know what the rep's on about.

edit: Borrow the 64 bit media from someone and try it with the Win 7 key you get. If it doesn't work, oh well.

    • I received mine today, and installed a retail copy of Windows 7 professional 64 bit with the same key that came with the laptop - it installed fine but won't activate :(

      Back to 32 bit I go :(

  • ): i was bout to buy the 700 one but its soldout now if anyone gets any new links for it please send to me

  • Deal expired it seems.

I tried 30 minutes ago and it was okay but then I closed it and retried via MBC, now it doesn't exist :(

  • Dell have them in stock
    http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=au&cs=a…

They just don't wish to sell them at $659 anymore but for $999.

  • I tried going to the Dell website through virgin velocity and buckscoop to get points or cashback. But couldn't find the page last night. I wanted to buy the $779.41 one initially. I wasted too much time trying to save a bit more money, but glad I wasn't too late to buy the $659 one a few hours ago though.

    • Lucky you :) Did you manage the 5% off through Buckscoop though? I also bought the $659 one but did not know how to get the further 5% off.

By the way, I personally think the $659 model has better value than the $779 one because I don't need dedicated graphic to play games, or the backlit keyboard to see in the dark :) Integrated graphic also saves battery life I believe, and generates less heat and noise.

      • Nope I couldn't get the 5% off. On the plus side, I got an email from Dell to say:

Your recent order had to be modified due to supply constraints. The bundle you selected had Genuine Windows® 7 Professional to XP Professional Downgrade which had to be replaced as Genuine Windows® 7 Professional with XP mode installed. Everything else remains the same.

        • I didn't get the email. But I guess the difference between "Win7 downgrade to XP" and "Win7 with XP mode" is just which OS gets pre-installed on the laptop.

Not sure if we are getting the same delivery time though.

        • I got the same email.

  • Has anyone actually received an email stating that it was going to be shipped?

I bought one of the fasttrack ones on the 13th, which are meant to be shipped within 24 hrs - my credit card has been debited but my order status is still "Order Received"…

    • Me too, exactly the same. Order status still shows "order received" (I've ordered the 659$ model on the 14th around 5pm). Maybe some of us have missed out. Does anyone have an order status that shows something else?
UPDATE: I phoned Dell, and they told me my new order number (they emailed me saying they cancelled the original one because of the Win7/WinXP change, but didn't tell the new order no in the email). Today order status shows "in delivery" and estimated delivery today (20 Oct)! All looking good so far.. Yayyy!!!

      • Mine just arrived - pretty nice laptop for $659!

    • ANOTHER UPDATE: Mine still not arrived. Order status showed arriving on the 20th, but no delivery. Phoned Dell "Small business" today (where our company account is), they said phone "Home" number. I phoned them, they said phoned "Small Business" number. I atarted getting angry, they hang-up. I can understand a few days late (we all make mistakes), but that's 7-days late now, and Dell had a contractual obligation to deliver within 24 hours. Good deal, but hey, what's the point of a good deal if it doesn't get delivered?

  • I just went in to check my order after receiving my order confirmation on the 14th. I found that my order has now been cancelled I have no idea why .. i suggest you all check your order even if it may have been confirmed. Seems like the ^%&(*('S are cancelling orders whithout our knowledge. I am sooo aggro . I am gonna blast me a dell rep tomorrow .

    • Update from me: My order showed cancelled too at about 6pm, got onto a Dell Sales Rep online - they said it was cancelled but re-ordered - they gave me a different order number, which is the same as what I ordered but with Windows XP Mode installed rather than Windows 7 with XP Downgrade.

Must just be part of their shitty ordering process - phew!

      • Which one did u order dirty carrot ? the $659 one or the $779 one ?

        • $659 - note the users a few comments above received an email from Dell about the change - I haven't received any such emails but they changed the order anyway… lucky I didn't want an XP downgrade anyway…

    • Just got an email from Dell as well after realizing that my order was initially cancelled. Mine was the $779 one.

They advised that they can no longer provide the XP downgrade disk and only Win7 Pro with XP Mode. I asked if this will still be provided in the future considering XP Mode is standard on Win7 Pro. So let's wait and see.

Anyway, I can't wait to have these new baby in my possession!

      • I believe they pre-install XP Mode for you but usually XP Mode is an extra download for Win7 Professional and Ulimate only.

        • OK.

Well it seems that Microsoft is not providing XP anymore so I guess it's "out" of Dell's control.

Anyway, it's ready to be shipped so I'm hoping to have it in my possession soon!

  • Yay!

    Current Status: With Local Carrier
    Estimate Delivery Date: 20-Oct-2010

    • Why is my delivery date 26-Oct? :\

  • Got mine delivered today, yeah! Had a weird call before hand asking which company I worked for though. Told them I didn't see how that was relevant.

    • Yeah when I quote the order number to support it comes up as a 'business order'

  • Mine still not delivered: I've ordered the $659 laptop on Sep 14th (and my credit card got debited on that date), but it still hasn't been delivered. Has everyone got their laptops delivered? Is it only my bad luck, or is that a Dell scam?
I've been on the phone to them for hours past 2 weeks; everyone apologises, but still no delivery. I'll refer this to Consumer Affairs tomorrow. If anyone is in the same boat being shafted by Dell, please let me know.

  • The price truely nice for dell, so what's the CPU? Yonah dikaryon?and what's the weight?
