      Over $100 more.

    • Apparently no Aussie charger too.

I doubt OnePlus is selling this as local stock. If they are, then they are breaking the law as the plug is not AS/NZS 3112 standards compliant.
So don't expect it to come with GST tax receipt. They're most likely still considered as grey stock but with local warranty.

Approved electrical goods will have an ‘electrical safety approval mark’. This mark will often include a capital letter followed by a certificate number. Some small electrical goods may use other approval marks such as the trade name. Examples of NSW electrical safety approval marks are shown in the next column.
Important: Overseas Certificates of Approval and approval marks, such as the CE mark, are not acceptable in Australia.
The maximum penalty for selling, importing, hiring or exchanging ‘declared articles’ without ‘electrical safety approval marks’ and an Australian Certificate of Approval is $82,500 and/or 2 years jail for individuals or $825,000 for corporations.

but with two years AU warranty. and a free case!

      • +4

Warranty is a straight up waste of money. Two dollar ugly case?

      • +1

        Care to elaborate?

        • +1

Probably referring to Australian consumer protection laws and being able to claim outside of warranty.

        • +1

@Ronnnie: Well yes, agreed. However many multinationals have a blatant disregard for Australian consumer protection law anyway. I've taken at least two to small claims court to get anywhere.

        • OnePlus did confirmed that they come with 2 years warranty in the link above.

Q: Do all OnePlus products during the Soft Launch come under warranty?
A: The OnePlus 5 will come with our standard 2 years warranty.

    • hmm not bad, how to order ?

    • Price is not bad considering CAD is similar to AUD and they are paring $50 more than us (CA$649.00 ).

  • +5

The Aussie store should come with a Tax Invoice. If you can get the GST back, the local price won't be that bad.

    • What will be the gst back on $599 pls

      • +8

        $54.45

      • multiple the price by 1/11 = GST component

    • You don't know if they would provide invoice with gst. My guess it's most likely not since its only a soft launch. Even Google don't provide gst invoice for their pixels on Google play. Do you really think a small company like one plus would register?

OP I received a package of 3 keyboards in 17 days that were ordered earlier this month, don't know if I was lucky or Joybuy have improved their shipping.

Still deciding whether this is the ideal phone to run gaming apps (battery wise) & high demanded memory apps simultaneously or something similar as G6 or S7 can compete in performance. But still waiting for the right deal or better price. OP5 128gb / 8gb ram memory for more storage & peak performance.

    • +1

Perhaps it’d be best to have a tablet dedicated to gaming. Gaming on a phone is a sure-fire way to shorten your battery’s life.

      • Personally I rather use tablet for work or learning. Phone is more portable and easier to carry while gaming, also running multimedia and productivity apps. Both devices are still desired.

would go for oneplus 5 if I were you. SD835 is a big step up in term of battery consumption or performance. The S7 or G6 aren't bad, but just can't really compete with the newer processor and more Ram. Not sure what games you are going to play, but my experience said that 64 should be enough. I used to have a 6P 128gb and never went over 50gb. Even with the 32gb S7 edge and a 32gb memory card, never filled them fully. I play a few big games but mostly are photos, musics.

      • Not sure about this - everything I have read states the G6 is superior to the OP5

        • Well, my friend had both and decided to keep the Oneplus 5. I tried both of them for a bit when he asked if I want to buy the G6 from him. I prefer the Oneplus 5. Feel better. The only think I prefer on the G6 was the 2k screen.

  • Idk about dash charging, if you don't use their charger and cable you're stuck with no quick charging.

    scratches head which to choose?

The OP5 is hugely faster than my old Pixel XL.

The front fingerprint sensor on the OP5 is far better than on the back with the pixel XL.

    • What will you say about the jelly effect?

      • Also curious to know how the whole "jelly effect" thing has panned out - very keen on the device, not so much on what I've read… My eyes are sensitive :(

        • +1

          My OP5 is perfect.

Purchased about 2 months ago (maybe a few weeks after launch) approx from guessing dates.

      • I have checked the YouTube videos to find out what to look for and I can't see anything on my OP5.

Typhoon Hato has hit Hong Kong so shipping might be delayed. Factor that in

  • Go with the soft launch. Don't recommend buying grey imports. Bought 5 oneplus 3Ts and had two that arrived DOA. Got one returned after 3 months and still waiting for the other one probably close to 5 months now.

    Cheapest handheld GameCube ever!

  • Black is sold out everywhere :(

128GB is available. I'd wait for Aussie launch though, will get it much faster, in less than 5 days according to their forums.

      • I don't need the extra storage and ram tho. True I'll wait for Aussie launch. Hard to resist these crazy low price
Have u bought expensive stuffs from this store before? What your experience?

  • Only grey on sale

This or the iPhone 8 for $1799 or the Galaxy Note 8 64gb for $1500?

  • Hoping to get the 128gb model in a couple of weeks or a month later when I have more cash, similar & better offers. If not, another better and valued phone. OP5 128gb is still great for storing large & media files & can act as usb storage. 8gb ram ensures optimal & higher performance for all heavy apps.

  • For 128GB at $468, there is an extra ~$20 for conversion loss on paypay or 2.5% if AU credit card instead

  • For people who may have experience with the Oneplus 3, what is the likelihood of a model like the OP5 being available in coming years on the official website when it is superseded, and does the price tend to drop significantly in anticipation of or after the introduction of any updated model.

I'm thinking of using shopper's protection insurance if I purchase via the online soft sale, and would like to weigh up between using Coles card and getting 2 years of shopper's protection but copping 3% overseas processing fee, vs 6 months with 28 degrees mastercard but free of any overseas bank processing fees.

Obviously shopper's protection is not of any use if they don't tend to drop the price of their phones over time and pull the old phone off the website as soon as the new one is introduced.

    • You will not get price protection on this purchase, not with Coles, and not with 28 degrees. Literally the very first line of the Price Protection section in the Coles Mastercard PDS says "If you buy an item in Australia with your Coles Mastercard and within 24 months the item is reduced in price in the same retailer at any location within Australia". And 28 degrees PDS also uses exactly the same phrasing: "If you buy an item in Australia with your 28 Degrees Platinum Mastercard and within 6 months the item is reduced in price in the same retailer at any location within Australia". I.e. for both cards it MUST be from a LOCAL retailer, which this retailer is not. Similarly I know that the extended warranty with some other cards (like Citibank) require that the item MUST be purchased in Australia.

There are some strong consumer benefits to buying mobiles locally: Credit card benefits (e.g. Price protection or extended warranty) + local manufacturer warranty + 2 years ACL protection with retailer OR manufacturer + more likely to have band 28 + often there's a local physical store.

But I'm totally okay with purchasing from overseas (my current mobile was bought from overseas), as long as the lower price paid makes up for losing those things, and people understand what they are giving up.

The ideal outcome is that Oneplus / Xiaomi / etc, all start selling locally, and even if it is a few dollars more, it would still be better for consumers.

      • Sorry, I've not been clearer. Not via joybuy but via the Official Oneplus Australian Launch happening tomorrow. See first comment on this page.

        • Ah sorry! But the question then becomes: Is that "item [bought] in Australia", or does that "retailer [have] any location within Australia"? I've read their soft launch FAQ, and it's still not clear to me that it would qualify. Because if OP just start shipping from overseas to Australia, but don't have an ABN, don't charge GST, don't have a physical local place of business or a registered office, then it's really a case that your buying from an overseas retailer, and they're just shipping it here (which is something that OnePlus themselves have up to this point refused to do for Australia). And that's no different from buying from an overseas seller on Australian eBay, which is a situation NOT covered by price protection.

This might seem pedantic, but insurers ARE pedantic and very good finding at reasons not to pay out. The gold standard for price protection is to have a invoice that includes the words "Tax Invoice" (because that automatically means it's Australian), even better if it's from a well-recognized retailer. A receipt where the company's address is shown and in Australia would probably be fine too.

It's also a bad sign that OP phones don't come with Australian chargers (so they're not complying with Australian law), plus that they aren't selling them at the meet ups (because this would automatically mean it's covered by the price protection conditions + would have to be sold inclusive of GST).

  • RIP, no more 8/128gb left
