Part of the rubber thong being iconic to Aussie feet is the fact that they are bloody cheap..
$20 a pair isn't cheap.
Double pluggers can be had for $5.

  Thongs for $5 are cheap none recyclable, environmentally damaging EVA flipflop, derived from oil.
  
  However, our flip-flops on the other hand are produced using natural rubber which can be easily recycled at the end of its life, and has a significantly reduced impact on the environment.
  $40 for 2 pairs shipped to your door is cheaper than you will find any in the shops such as ripcord, oneil, havaianas etc - and those products are not natural ;)

    Local councils don't accept rubber (or clothing & footwear) for recycling. It must be put in the general waste bin and sent to landfill. No different to a $2 thong.
    
    No bargain here, dodgy environmental claims.
