Octane 20 Tint Question

I am looking to get Octane 20 tint on my black Sportage and just wanted to know. Has anyone with octane 20 tint ever been pulled over and fined by police and also is it too dark to drive at night? I got quoted $400 for all windows including back.

  • I had it back window only. Never questioned by cops. It is fine during the day but in my opinion too dark at night. I wouldn't like my side windows that dark. Looks great from outside especially on a black car.

  • +1

Might look better but just put 35% on the front windows

    • I have heard stories from people who did this and later regretted it as it was too light and not consistent.

It all depends on the car, window size, interior colour etc

I just mean to keep it a bit more legal, for insurance cops etc

  • not sure which brand octane 20 is, but legal limits are 35% for the front driver/passenger windows
anything less you know you're running illegally - and it's a risk you'd have to take. I don't know of many who have been pulled up for this, but there have been blitzes where they target tints and have a light meter

it'll take some getting used to at night especially if you need ur side mirrors to reverse etc… u might just have to wind down the windows instead (and that doesn't work well in the rain!)

  • I have 18% , recently passed the test.

  • I had 15% on the back and back-side windows of Prado - zero visibility at night when reversing. Also couldnt see the cars behind me who had only parking lights on.

  • Have 15% never had an issue with the law. Have known people with 10% and 5% that have never had issues with the law, however really difficult to see out of at night in the 5%

  • Friend recently got a Unroadworthy Vehicle Sticker (Canary) on his car for 20% tint (in Vic) he had to get the tint removed (which cost twice what the install cost) so he could get the new RWC.
The police can be picky, but if they want to they will defect your car, Victoria police carry light testers in their cars, I am not sure about other states.
    Is it even worth it?
What if you try and sell the car in the future? you wont get a RWC with that tint.
