Anyone ever tried protein after "best before" date? How is it (assuming it's kept in original packaging, cool place etc)?

    • +6

Protein lasts for a very long time. It should be fine to consume, also since its best before, not use by.

    • +7

I often by short dated protein. Nothing wrong with it in my opinion, tastes and mixes like normal.

      • +2

i think if anything it just leaves with you an odd after taste

    • +2

I had a coffee one from these guys that got a bit clumpy (may have been clumpy for a while), and I didnt like the taste so I tossed it (4 months expired). The vanilla on the otherhand, tastes good! It is not noticeable at all

    • +2

I've used protein powder up to / or even longer than 12 months past the best before date, no issues.

If you buy it before/well before the expiry and store it correctly it will last years.

    • +1

I also buy a lot of short dated protein. It's perfectly fine, as long as it's stored in a cool area and out of sunlight.

Obviously the quicker you consume it the better, though I have used some that's been a year and half out.

If it's a good price then jump on it. Some good bargains to be had.

  • +1

Shit. I ordered $500 of stuff on Friday.

    • +14

$500! My god man are you hulk? Arnie is that you?

  • I love their new meal replacements. Saves me so much time and tastes so good.

    • new?

  • Will need to buy some more WPC, guess I can bring the purchase forward a week. Thanks OP :)

    • Why not Whey Protein Isolate?

      • I'm not lactose intolerant.

      • WPC for the cheap, WPI for a treat mmm so milky :D

  • +5

    I'm only getting 5% discount?

  • +3

    Only 5% as stated above.

Change in main description as its not 10% off

  • +6

It's 5% not 10%. There's a fair few different 5% codes off at the moment until the elusive 10% off appears next:

    TH0R
    NATBODZ
    IFBBWA
    ICNNSW
    MEGANANN
    ANB ($5 off)

Edit: I've just seen that they get discontinued if they're posted onto coupon sites, sooo… moral dilemma? Do we post to forums? I dunno!

    • I've seen TH0R on Ozbargain before and I don't think it's expired. Am I able to use it more than once?

      • I don't see why not. I just checked and its still working for me even though I've used that code multiple times.

    • None worked for me. Must have removed then quick.

      • +3

Just tested them again and they still work for me. Are you logged in?

        • +1

My bad, didn't realise you had to be logged in haha. Cheers.

  • Which flavor is good for WPC? Banana?

    • +2

My favourite flavours of their WPC are banana, salted caramel and coffee.

      • +1

Thanks for re-affirming, good that I just ordered Banana.

      • What do you have with banana? I just got it and think it tastes kind of plain.

        • I use it on its own, as a protein shake after a workout. Otherwise, I use about 10-15 grams in my breakfast.

    • +1

I like banana, vanilla, strawberry, chocolate.
Cookies n cream is ok just not much flavour..
If u like choc mint, then u will like that from bn.

      Not sure of others.

      • Yes, will order chocolate & vanilla in future if I like their WPC.

Any idea about their meal replacement?

      • What do you have with banana? I Have about 400mls of water with one scoop and it tastes horribly plain. I also opened Chocolate and that tastes pretty good too. Still waiting on my protein shaker since BulkNutrients didn't hook me up with a free one :P

        • As a shake I use one scoop with about 200-250ml water, perhaps that's why you're finding it plain?

          400ml seems too high.

        • 400ml? Too much water in my opinion. I go for 250-300ml max.

        • @Colombian: 250ml = 1 glass of water, will keep in mind. But how do I measure ml's?

        • @bargainaus: My shakers have a level with ml indicator.

        • @Colombian: Received the Banana flavor WPC today, 300ml water + 1 scoop WPC = not so terrible taste.

Do you have any comments on BN Total Meal Replacement?

        • @bargainaus: no comments, never tried.

    • +1

Choc honeycomb is the bomb, and salted caramel is also really good.

  • +7

    EXPIRED:

    No whey :(

    • there has to be another whey to get a different code?

      • +1

        which whey?

        • I was hoping you would be able to find a whey…

          edit: http://prntscr.com/gdrixw

        • You took too long jv… i found a whey!!!!!! SAM2017 still works :-)

  • +1

Damn missed it. Does anyone know how often these 10% codes come out and how to find them?
Might have to cop the 5%.

    • +1

The codes are from their ambassadors' Instagram page. Looks like they get enabled and disabled randomly or based on certain rules.

  • Tried the Future Whey sample, don't like it, taste like BCAA. Would prefer traditional whey and BCAA separately.

    • first time I tried FW I gagged, 2nd time was only hard to pass
I guess eventually one could get use to it, but yeah, whey all the way…

  • Ah, one day too late! Just got my delivery this morning after having no luck finding coupon codes that worked. Oh well, maybe next time!

  • +1

    FYI:

    WPC-

    10kg is $180 after 5% discount

On myprotein, their Impact Whey (similar nutritionals to BN WPC) 10kg is about $140 after the current 30% discount..

I am disappointed with the myprotein flavours though..

      • +1

The point is not about eating good food or not. I don't have time to prepare or arrange foods for my daily routine. I'm out of bed a 2:15am and finish my work at 4:00pm Monday to Friday. After that I go to the GYM.

Time is my excuse when I complement my diet with a couple of shakes per day.

        • @ninetyNineCents:

I don't need to do that, because if you read me properly, at any moment I disagree with your argument.

        • @Colombian:

Sorry i couldnt pick any of the neg voters, so i had to pick someone :)

        • @ninetyNineCents:

Sounds like you think everyone is a fool and buys in to the 2/3 x body weight in grams BS.

Nothing wrong with supplementing a modest protein goal with some whey.

        • @stonkered:

Sounds like you think everyone is a fool and buys in to the 2/3 x body weight in grams BS.

When did i say that ?

All i said was provide scientific proof from a peer reviewed journal that it actually has any benefits to your body or health.

Feel free to call the company and paste the link they provide that shows how wonderful their product is.

Nothing wrong with supplementing a modest protein goal with some whey.

Except its unnatural and might actually do harm.

        • @ninetyNineCents:

No one is going to take you up on that challenge as we already know it's all marketing BS, what isn't BS though is that the body needs protein, especially when training, and this is a cheap (calorie and $ wise) and convenient way of getting it.

        • @ninetyNineCents: Using the internet is unnatural.

        • @stonkered:

what isn't BS though is that the body needs protein, especially when training, and this is a cheap (calorie and $ wise) and convenient way of getting it.

There are many kinds of protein, you have simplified how the body works and what proteins are good completely ignoring what science can teach us. Only a fool pretends they can bullshit science just because they now everything and can simplify everything.

        • @youknow:

          Using the internet is unnatural.

No its not, when i said these protein sources are unnatural its because it is, no where in nature present in this form, and more importantly the content itself contains chemicals and has been processed in a way that makes it quite different from what nature gives us.

Looking a screen is not the same as ingesting food into your body, its just pathetic to think one is proof or an argument that backs either position. There is nothing unnatural about your eyes looking a screen any more than looking at a tree. Looking at either or similar objects has no harmful side effects on your body. Looking at the sun is however unnatural or unsafe because it will damage your eyes.

Its unbelievable how many people think they know everything and just make shit up instead of being humble and finding out the truth.

        • @ninetyNineCents: I personally don't care for supplements, I just despise the notion of unnatural = bad. I don't feel that saying "it's unnatural" adds any value to your argument. There are plenty of life saving medicines and treatments that would fall under the category of unnatural. Maybe you disagree with those too, but plenty wouldn't. Something being unnatural doesn't necessarily make it bad for you.

        • I haven't simplified anything nor am I 'bullshitting science', I've merely stated; 1) there is nothing wrong with a moderate whey supplement and 2) that the body needs protein. You haven't actually explained why any of this incorrect which is ironic coming from someone ranting about science and peer reviewed studies.

        • @youknow:

I personally don't care for supplements, I just despise the notion of unnatural = bad.

Well its bad until you know its good and shown to be good by a respected body.

The regular plants we eat have been showen by our ancestors to not be poisonous and generally good for us, since these protein supplements are relatively new additions to our diets, im only saying the sensible thing to do is display caution and verify that they actually are rather than taking random shite.

There are plenty of life saving medicines and treatments that would fall under the category of unnatural.

IM going to guess here and say that you are referring to alternative medicines. It has again been shown by clinical trials that many of them do absolutely nothing. Again if they did work, let me ask you where are the studies that show in a clinical trial that they do ?

Maybe you disagree with those too, but plenty wouldn't. Something being unnatural doesn't necessarily make it bad for you.

Plenty of ignorant people who know nothing and have no proof would disagree. THe real doctors and scientists who have done trials and have real scientific proof will tell you they are bullshit.

          Facts dont lie.

Feel free to provide proof that alternative medicine has been proven to work, and i mean real proof, not heresay but proof shown with trials with hundreds of people with details of successes and failures, not nonsense tha tyou heard on th ebus.

        • @stonkered:

          1) there is nothing wrong with a moderate whey supplement and

Your "thoughts" and "mine" are not scientific evidence, just because you tell me that its fine doesnt cut it. Science is not a shouting game where people get to tell nature how it works.

Science demands proof using the scientific method… so rather than demand i respect your opinion show me the proof.

          2) that the body needs protein.

THere are many types of proteins, its not that simple to assume theres just one. Surely you know that …

You haven't actually explained why any of this incorrect which is ironic coming from someone ranting about science and peer reviewed studies.

Because you cant just make shit up, you have to prove its true.

Newton had to write a very complex book when he discovered Gravity, he didnt just demand everyone to believe him. When big pharma have a new drug there is a procedure and tests reviews and a lot of other things that happen before the product is delivered to the public for certain problems. IM not saying big pharma is perfect, but that process helps make things more reliable and better, without it we have chaos. I hope you understand why these procedures exist.

The same is true of you, you have to provide the evidence that something is true if you feel that it is.

        • @stonkered:

I suggest you read and learn a bit more than assume you know it all. LIfe is a bit more complex, there are many types of proteins some good some bad etc..

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protein

Proteins (/ˈproʊˌtiːnz/ or /ˈproʊti.ɪnz/) are large biomolecules, or macromolecules, consisting of one or more long chains of amino acid residues. Proteins perform a vast array of functions within organisms, including catalysing metabolic reactions, DNA replication, responding to stimuli, and transporting molecules from one location to another. Proteins differ from one another primarily in their sequence of amino acids, which is dictated by the nucleotide sequence of their genes, and which usually results in protein folding into a specific three-dimensional structure that determines its activity.

          Try googlescholar…

Its not quite as innocent as eatting a few bananas which are totally harmless.

          https://scholar.google.com.au/scholar?q=protein+shakes+dange...

        • @ninetyNineCents: Umm.. you're making so many assumptions. Again, I don't care for supplements, so I don't need to provide any proof of anything. Again, I said I despise the notion that unnatural=bad. No, I didn't mean alternative medicine, if I did, I would have said alternative medicine. I meant things like antibiotics, chemotherapy, epipens, blood transfusions, organ transplants etc. This isn't worth any more of our time. You're welcome to argue with yourself, but my position will remain the same. Something being "unnatural" does not necessarily mean it is bad for you.

        • @youknow:

Umm.. you're making so many assumptions

Of course, its called caution, otheres here are making assumptions that some random shit is good because well because they say so.

Again, I said I despise the notion that unnatural=bad.

Well im simply saying check whether these new things are good or bad, rather than assuming.

I meant things like antibiotics, chemotherapy, epipens, blood transfusions, organ transplants etc.

What about them ? SPeak in complete sentences.

This isn't worth any more of our time. You're welcome to argue with yourself, but my position will remain the same. Something being "unnatural" does not necessarily mean it is bad for you.

It may be good and it may be bad, thats the point, how do you tell ?

  • Anyone tried their preworkout before? Any recommendations?

    • PWO101 was the first pre I tried after training without caffeine for several years. I've since tried CT Fletcher's Sidewalk Kraka and Optimun Nutrition's pre.

Compared to Sidewalk Kraka, it is low-medium stim. PWO101 Tasted great, mixed really well and found it definitely gave me a boost, but I think I have improved the effectiveness for myself by adding a little extra creatine, beta alanine and citrulline malate. Now it gives me the tingles and focus without the crazy caffeine they put in high stim formulas. Means I can lift at night without later being forced to lie awake in bed staring at the ceiling for hours on end.

As with most lower stim preworkouts, its effectiveness will depend a lot on how sensitive you are to caffeine. I don't drink caffeinated drinks regularly and I find I'm quite sensitive to caffeine so it worked well for me. Friends have said it wasn't strong enough to do a lot for them.

For the price, I'd give it a go if you are after something mid-range - a bit less intense than C4, Jack3d, etc.

      • cheers for that, for some reason im quite tolerant to caffeiene even though i rarely drink coffee.
I've tried C4 before and im not sure if i got a dodgy batch because i didnt even feel anything after 3 scoops.
Based off what you and kamui have said, i might give it a miss for now if PWO101 and No4x arent as potent.

    • -1

      Just drink a short black.

    • get the one with octodrine in it. think the product is called ampd'x if its still available.

    • +1

You missed the train for the best one they had to offer http://www.bulknutrients.com.au/products/no3x-2-pre-workout.... .
But like Jack3d, it's been pulled from the shelves today. I've tried No4x, PWO101. None of them come even close to the energy and focus levels of No3X.

      • +1

Nothing comes close to the old Jack3d… I did a 6 hour long workout one time while Jack3d up

        • +1

Can't you still black market that stuff on ebay, I can't believe what people were selling them for after they got banned.

I guess they would all be out of date now, 6 hours wtf haha

        • @domingochavez: Nah, the powder starts to clump up a few months after you get it so not available anymore, legit market or otherwise =(

There were no probs if you stuck to the limits on the canister and cycled it (eg 2 weeks on, 1 week off) but saw guys at the gym abusing it (one guy was eating 2-3 scoops at a time like sherbet)

  • Future Whey looks like a detergent bag. Terrible design. Also their comparison is a bit off against VPA.

VPA WPC is 29AUD + free shipping
BN WPC is 27AUD + 7 AUD shipping

  • Coupon code 'KYLE' currently works for 5% if anyone needs to use it.
