If anyone isn't sure about what to get, I recommend Ethiopian Yirgacheffe.

Yirg is awesome and has a HUGE following worldwide.

  • Perhaps you can help me Coffee Person - I want to make coffee to take to work/class with me in the morning in my thermos, and I have a french press. I order a soy flat white when I go to cafes, but I don't want to spend that money every day. I tried making it at home with some coffee I bought but I think it's too fine, and it's a very watery coffee with some silt at the bottom when I'm done - and when I have it with soy milk, it curdles.

I always want to ask a barista but they are super busy, and googling hasn't given me any specific advice yet, so if you have five minutes, a little reply would be much appreciated and I might buy some coffee! Thanks!

Hi there - good question. Personally I would take the french press with you to work …or buy an aeropress to take and use at work. You can grind the coffee ( needs to be quite coarse for plunger/press etc) before you set off in the morning and brew as required. The flavour will be better freshly brewed. As for the soy milk curdling it may be because the milk is quite cold and the coffee quite hot. I would try and warm the milk up to a touch and then add slowly.
By the way , I am not a barista …I just roast and taste :)

Cheers - hopefully you will give Two Cracks a go!

    • everything dale said Plus buy one of those $5 stick frothers off ebay

microwave the soy milk in a mug starting at 20-30seconds (microwave power varies) then increase time until it gets to a temperature youre happy with

adjust the qty of milk to your taste

then use the stick frother to froth the milk inside the mug (near a sink in case you make a mess)
      rinse it off and dry

pour coffee into the mug or milk into the coffee. either way it doesnt matter unless you care about how it looks

  • dale i just got back from holidays so still havent finished my last batch from you

ok cool ill email you in a week!

  • What coffees would be best for espresso? I prefer traditional chocolate flavours rather than more floral / fruity coffees.

    • Hi there.. I would recommend the Honduras, Colombian and the Costa Rica.
They have the more typical south American chocolatey notes.
      Cheers :)
