  • How necessary are these screen and back protectors? I bought my first iPhone on Wednesday and love its shiny clean lines and looks. The aluminosilicate glass is very tough and scratch resistant (much more so than any stick on film), but I worry about it being scratched up within a few weeks. The shiny aluminium backs of iPods look awful very fast.

    • The words "and scratch resistant" may answer your question. Resistant is not scratch proof.

I got a new phone (not apple) recently and even with careful handling it started to get scratches on it's scratch resistant surface. I now have a protector on it.

They are tricky to apply correctly too so it is worthwhile doing some reading up on "how to" before trying to put it on, they can look terrible if done wrong. I managed to do a good job with mine and you would not know it is on there.

Rep.. any good deals for Sony Experia X10i too?? :-)

    • For the time being I think these screen protector is a must as the back cover can damage the glass.

      Really?

While they dropped the phone causing the class to break if they had a plastic back then there would have probably been no damage.

      I do not think so

Touch and scratch resistant does not mean unbreakable when you drop the phone. Solution: don't drop it.

The two YouTube videos are nice, but irrelevant. The first shows the back of a 3G, not a 4G phone. It does not show a key versus aluminosilicate glass.

The second video is also impressive, but just shows that the film protects the screen. This in itself is pretty obvious. What most people want to know is how the aluminosilicate glass resist every day handling, sitting in pockets and being poked and prodded by sometimes unclean fingers. I'll try and avoid applying a Dremel to my new phone.

        • One is not human if one has never dropped a phone.

  • You can get these for a few cents from Hong Kong via eBay.
I think that's a fair comparison since this is from eBay too.

Only advantage that this is posted from AUS.

I have owned an iPhone 4 (32GB) for nearly two months now. For the first month I used the Optus-supplied imitation bumper, with no back or front protection. I then received my Apple supplied case, which protects the back but not the front. I have not dropped the phone onto any hard surface, though it's often shared a pocket with pens, USB sticks, rosary beads and the occasional coins/keys.

The screen hasn't a single scratch, mark or blemish that can't be removed with a wipe of cloth (usually my tshirt). I'm not willing to give it a proper stress-test, but compared to previous phones I am very impressed. I am convinced that putting a "screen protector" on the iPhone 4 actually leaves it worse off.

  • it cant leave it worse off.. it can only do it good. And let me tell you it will eventually scractch I guarentee you.

    • Given the oleophobic nature of the glass, unless the adhesive plastic layer has a similar composition (or, impossibly, superior) it would only make the screen more susceptible to build-up of grease and dirt. Considering the two months my phone has spent unprotected, I guarantee you that anything severe enough to scratch the glass would tear right through a flimsy piece of plastic.

      • While the screen on the iPhone 4 appears to be more scratch resistant than previous models, there are plenty of reports of the glass scratching quite easily - just do a search on youtube or google.

The good thing about cheap screen protectors is that they can be replaced regularly so there is no chance of grease and dirt build-up.

I'd rather be safe than sorry, and not found out the hard way that in all likelihood my screen is in fact not scratch proof.

But we're dealing with an aww-strayy-lee-uhn company! Protected by Australian consumer law.. blah blah blah.. no not really, it's on ebay.
      - faster shipping.. when stock is supposed to arrive on wednesday [Why is this listed when there isn't any existant stock, that's just pre/back-ordering stock]

      I'm kidding.
I agree with you, I have nfi why this is considered a bargain with the normal eBay pricing [yes you can compare with other eBay stores now since its on eBay] and current non-existant stock.

  • These were not for the iPhone 4 they were just relabled 3GS screen protectors DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SELLER! ANd before you say "They should fit" they dont the camera is half covered the speaker has a massive gap and the alignment is bad.
