Optus Sagemcom F@St 3864 Modem - Setting for Buzz Telco

Since many people would have been signing up with the Buzz Telco promo recently, I thought I'd share this info for people who intend to use their existing Optus Modem (in my case the Sagemcom F@St 3864).

To set it up you need to login to your modem as below:

http://192.168.0.1/main.html?loginuser=2
user: admin
pass: Y3s0ptus

Go to WAN Service, remove all existing Interface
* Then create new one, by clicking Add
* Select eth4
* Tick IP over Ethernet, enter "-1" on both field and select IPv4
* Tick "Use the following IP address" and enter the details as per email from Buzz Telco
* Enable NAT and Enable IGMP, click next to save and ensure its updated in the WAN Service table

Then go to DNS
* Tick "Use the following Static DNS IP Address"
* Enter Primary & Secondary DNS server as per email from Buzz Telco

That should complete your configuration. Make sure you're plugged to the right Uni-D Port too.

Hope this helps someone because I almost bought a new modem after being told by Buzz Telco rep that its incompatible (which theoretically is correct if you don't have access to the Optus admin password above)

  • Thanks mate.

Am I correct in saying you are on FTTP? I don't believe it would work on FTTN.

    • I think it does both according to WP -
      http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/fttn_registered_modem_router
      "nbn™ registered FTTN/FTTB Modem/Routers (with VoIP port)"

      Thanks OP

      • +1

Not for Buzz - it wouldn't do FTTN on Buzz as it requires the ability of VLAN tagging (100).
FTTP Buzz does not need VLAN Tagging.
That list isn't 100% accurate too - the Telstra Gateway Max does not work on FTTN services that require Vlan tagging either.

    • Yea i am on FTTP. Not sure if it works on FTTN, probably not

    • +1

Tick IP over Ethernet, enter "-1" on both field and select IPv4

Assuming the modem supports VDSL and both field refers to Priority and VLAN ID then you just need to enter 0 and 100 for FTTN/B. The selected Interface would be ptm instead of eth.

  • Thanks John.

  • Would anyone know where I can get help with my Netgear D7000 (connecting with Buzz Telco)?

    • Should be pretty easy - PM me if you like (if you are on FTTN).

      • I'm FTTP. What difference would it be in terms of set up?

        • Shouldn't be a big difference - just with Buzz FTTP you don't need to tag the VLAN which is one less step to worry about.
Did you ask Buzz to email you the settings?

        • @Alister: Thanks for the info. I'm getting it connected later in the month, just trying to research it all because I remember connecting Belong was pretty difficult and I needed support from Netgear.

  • Would the setup be similar for using the modem for Aussie Broadband?

    • Yep just ignore the static ip bit and use dynamic ip although yoy may apready have an iPoE connection pre-configured in the modem (this is the case with mine when i ported to Aussie Broadband prior to this). So i didnt really need to create anything new, almost plug and play

  • Hi guys,

I'm having difficulty setting up my TPG provided Huawei HG659 for Buzz Telco.

Does anyone know what settings I should use?

I have superadmin rights to the modem and I'm FTTB.

I tried turning off VLAN and then using PPPoE. I got a flashing internet light but no internet.

    Cheers,

    John

    • Had similar problem when I switched back to ABB from Buzz Telco (which both should be PPPoE now I believe), i just did a factory reset on my modem and it worked straightaway. I’m guessing because PPPoE came preconfigured with my Optus modem and I probably configured it wrong. So maybe your Huawei modem is the same… not the most intelligent answer i know but it maybe the most simple step you can try

  • John, i know this is 6 years old, but you helped me get my internet working with More NBN. After MANY hours of googling and calling their help line trying to get it to work ( they said the Sagemcom was locked and to buy another modem ). I stumbled apon this post, did as you said and bam! Working first go.

    So thank you so much!!!

  • Yeah generally unless your using Voice services from a provider, or some other service such as 4G or 5G backup generally you can re-use modems from other providers on different networks just fine.
It all depends on how locked down the device is generally only voice is locked down.
