GeekBuying Lied to Me TWICE

My LG died a few weeks back while I was on holiday so I needed a new mobile phone. After getting some input on Ozbargain for possible replacements I decided to go with this one: I put my order in on 23 August.

As you will see - the website promises it will ship in 2 to 7 business days.I waited until 31 August, then sent an email when I hadn't received shipping confirmation asking when it would ship. When I didn't hear anything I contacted their online chat on 2 September. I am attaching that chat As you will see, after the website promised postage in 2 to 7 business days, the online chat then promised that the item would be posted that day (ie 2 September).

It is now 3 Sept and I can see on the website it has not shipped - and I have received no shipping confirmation. These lies have wasted my time and really p*ssed me off. Geekbuying is happy to make promises, but doesn't seem to care about fulfilling those promises. In fact, it seems they don't even have the item in stock so are waiting on Xiaomi before they can do anything.

Anyone want to share their frustration at lies and broken promises from Geekbuying or other websites - especially about shipping and processing times?

Half way through the chat transcript you all of a sudden asked if they will promise to ship today after they already stated they would ship it next week at the start.

It confused me reading it no doubt hes thinking wtf and just said whatever to get you to leave.

    • Exactly…..You ain't getting it shipped today, they are just giving you the answer you want to get you to go away.

They actually offered to cancel, usually these place pretend to ship when you demand a refund.

    • No - halfway through they promised it would ship 'today'. I asked them to confirm that.
      Read it again.

Why don't you request your money back and go elsewhere?

I found reading the transcript your tone to be quite rude and condescending. I hope you don't speak to people like that IRL because it won't get you very far.

Not at all. When using the free shipping option from a Chinese drop shipper I would take any time frame as an ETA and with a grain of salt. If you want faster shipping pay for the express services or buy locally.

Wow - that is a lot of upvotes.
I was frustrated that they promised shipping in 2 to 7 days then, after 10 days, told me that it would still not ship until some specified time 'next week'.
I then pointed out that their website misrepresented their processing time.
I think that some annoyance was understandable.
Apparently other people on this site aren't concerned at false shipping times being advertised and relied on, then disregarded when they are inconvenient.
Oh, and the time they have wasted already is not in postage - it is in processing. The item has not even left yet, so choosing a quicker shipping method is irrelevant.

as Olokun said, you were being a condescending prick. I would tell you I could send you a unicorn from Mars to Earth in 2 hours just to get you off my back.

They EVEN repeatedly told you there had been a lot of orders. Cant you take the hint ? It means stock shortages. And then they wrote it in a plain sentence. I'll let you find out where that line of sentence is.

        • +1

If there is a shortage of stock then they should not leave their web site showing the usual shipping time. Many do it, they get your money and let you sweat it out while they find stock.
The seller is not the least bit concerned.. they have your money.
I would be angry too if an item was presented for sale but with a hidden secret.. no stock.. you wait!!
Then again… it is the hidden cost we pay when we shop for these overseas bargains and we must remember that the warranty is virtually useless, the item may never show up or be faulty when we get it.
It is nice when it all works though.

    • I'm so happy to see someone can put it so much more eloquently then I can because dude, I wouldn't be surprised if the guy put you in the back of the wait list just out of spite.

Its a bit of a shame because you have a fair reason to be annoyed, (though to be honest I never believe a Chinese shipper to be accurate) but I think there was a better way you could've got them to change to today shipping. And a lot of people here would be more on your side and hopefully GeekBuying might make some changes from everyone agreeing.

The most frustrating thing about geekbuying that will stop me from buying from them in the future is how long they take to ship stuff out , once it's shipped out it's fine but it took them almost 3 weeks to ship out a note 4 last month when it was meant to be < 7 days.

I was buying it for someone else too so it was terrible having to tell them it was delayed all the time

    • Did they say on the item that it would take 3 weeks to ship, or, like me, did they lie and say it would be shipped in 2 to 7 days?

  • Never accept a we will send again, simply because it doesnt reset the purchase time clock. THis is very important when making claims with your bank regarding a failure to receive goods. If you end up waiting for "two" deliveries and never get either for any reason, and then try again to discuss things with them, you might very well pass the 3 or so month limit that your bank sets.

At worst the best thing you can do is cancel the purchase, and if you really trust or want, buy the product again.

  • Maybe staff are to busy learning English

  • Reading that chat transcript felt like reading a conversation between an annoying 5-year-old kid who wants a new toy and his poor mum. I can't believe you actually believed it would ship that day! You should've either taken the refund or waited patiently.
If I have to buy from China, I always use ebay or ali express. The power of feedback makes them more honest and accommodating.

  • Omgoodness, OP are you always like this? Relax a little, life is tooooo short to stress about a delayed shipping.

Ok - maybe I was a bit upset, but:
      1. their website said 2 to 7 days processing time. After 10 days they still hadn't 'processed'.
      2. I contacted them to complain and they promised it would be sent that day.
      3. They still haven't modified their website to put in more accurate processing times, and
      4. they still haven't sent the item.
In the meantime they have my money - and no plan as to when they will send the item.
Frankly I am stunned that so many people on Ozbargain seem happy to pay for an item based on a representation as to when it would ship, and then are prepared to wait indefinitely for the order to be processed.
Makes me think I should set up an online store for electronics where I promise shipping in three days, take orders, keep people's money, then don't send anything for a month.

Nowadays, Chinese websites have also started delaying pre-orders or pre-sale orders for a product that was expected in 2-weeks to arrive, but then they continuously change the date and increase the price for the customer to bear with them, because the buyer will not accept a refund as the item is now expensive on most stores. The idea behind this is the % of interest the bank pays for your money during this exponential delay. This is getting too mainstream with the in-stock items too, because higher the order value, more profit by the bank for them, especially when it is the start of the month. So, yeah, delays in in-stock items are normal at last week and first week of the month. Middle of the month always works fine. I hope someone else can note this as a tip, because this has worked for me a lot!

  • Screw you bitches.
    Apparently my phone shipped today.
I would have been fine with that if they'd just been honest and said from the start that it would take 14 days to ship.

  • That's 9 business days.

If people like you did not waste their time,it might have been quicker.

    • Yeah, I'm sure the guy on the live support hotline is the same dude that sends out the packages…
All I want is for them to give honest estimates of processing time, and then keep to those promises. If they are delayed, update the processing time estimate.
I don't think that's too much to ask.

Love to see you ordering a meal.

Reckon you'd get a free extra.

        • Unlikely. I complain for a living so I hate doing it when I'm not working.
I also never expect anything more than what I pay for.

  • To all of you thinking of starting a business, here is an insight into the sort of deadbeats you'll have to deal with on occasion. You said this and that happened. Worse on ebay where they know they can leave feedback if you don't do exactly what they want. Get a life

    • Perhaps you could try the radically unconventional approach of 'you said x and x is precisely what happened'? Or maybe that is asking too much of you.
I wish every deadbeat I have to deal with had paid in full for the service I provided and simply wanted me to provide the service I promised.

  • geekbuying is definately bunch of liers. False advise items missing accessories.

    • I'm happy to look into for you. Shoot me a PM with your order number and the issue.

      • Hi,

Please help me with my order

        Order Number: #4298375
        Order Date: 11/29/2017
        Order Status: Payment Confirmed (Processing)

Thank you so much for any help

        friendly

        • No problem. I'll speak to them.

  • I have the same problem, waiting for more than one month but still no sign of my order.
GB keep saying it shipped and will come soon which is completely lies!

    • Don't bother complaining on here.
As you can see from the responses above - the Ozbargain community doesn't give a stuff about vendors lying to customers.

      • I hate this mob as much as you do but still order low value cheap items :)

  • At least more people should know how bad they act.

I have asked Clear now 3 times how my order is going .. no reply

if i dont get an answer i will cancel the order and bring it up with paypal as a dispute.

    • I think Clear is trying to help but suspect he/she may only have priority email access to GB relaying your message so there’s not a lot he/she can do.

  • I ordered a phone using 5-8 days shipping. After 5 weeks tracking shows it’s still in Hong Kong and they bluntly told me to wait for 2-3 months and don’t bother them.

    • I never heard back from my last PM? Did anything happen or have they still told you to wait?

  • Keep this post up the top. People need to know about this company.
