[AMA] UberEATS Driver with a Car

Hi all,

Bit of time on my hands today, and I've been a long time lurker on this site so I thought I'd answer some or any of the questions you guys might have in relation to UberEats Deliveries.

I've been doing this for about 2 months now, here in Sydney. Start off from my place in the Inner West and have ended up in Brighton Le-Sands and/or Bondi Beach a few times.

Does it make good money? Depends on what you define as good. Outside of my dayjob, I value my time at $15 p/h (after expenses) and I make more than that most nights. The key part for me is flexibility. If I got a second job, I would have set days and hours where I would have to rock up to work. This gives me the ability to decide if or not I want to work, and how long or short I'd spend online.

I do purely UberEATS deliveries and am currently unable to do Uber Driving as I've been rejected for a Ride Share License for other reasons. (No I'm not a criminal!)

Cheers,
Your Local UberEats Driver

Do you park outside popular restaurants waiting for an order to come in? Do you live near a restaurant that uses ubereats that you do a one off delivery for since it's close?

    • I live very close to a main road filled with restaurants so an order comes through within the first 5 minutes of going online on the app.

Are you only taking question pertaining to UberEats or can we ask general life questions?

    • +1

Ask whatever you'd like :) I'm in a good mood.

      • What would your ideal, dream life look like?

        • +1

Life goal is to release the golden handcuffs in 10 years.

        • +1

@ubereats00: "gold" =) can I have the handcuffs when released :)?

        • @ubereats00:

Is that a retirement handcuff? Or are you in a startup?

  • Is the income taxable? Do you need a payment summary from Uber per financial year for tax purpose?

    • Yes, most certainly is.
I'll have to lodge a BAS at the end of the month so far it looks like it's still worth it.
Uber sends out a Payment Summary very week.

      • Were you already lodging a BAS for other reasons?

A person that I know that does Uber Eats says unlike Uber driving for passenger you don't have to register for GST. They also said an ABN wasn't mandatory for sign-up with Uber Eats (unlike Uber passenger-based ones), which is strange since the payment isn't domestic.

        • +1

I can confirm we do not pay GST as long as Revenue is under $75K.
I'm fairly certain I provided my ABN though, otherwise how else would I be getting paid? I'm not an employee of Uber's..

        • @ubereats00: Exactly. It was strange since then Uber would have to withhold tax. He signed up when it first started.

      • Thanks for replying. So the $15/hour rate you calculated is after tax right?

        • Correct. But this only applies during peak periods.

Have you ever been 'invited in' by a hot lonely lady?

    • Unfortunately not, though at times I feel like it'd be hard to say no if I was asked.

    • I thought only pizza boy is lucky to serve lonely lady.

      • +1

        Plumbers do too…so I've heard.

        • +1

Looks like plumbing and pizza delivery are hot business..

        • Plumbers do too…so I've seen.

          FTFY

      • +1

you definitely serve lonely ladies as a pizza boy but they are never the ladies you would consider yourself lucky to serve

        source: was a pizza boy

    Red or Blue?

  • Any interesting stories from your time as UberEATS driver you like to share?

    • +1

Besides people not putting in their apartment number or restaurants making me wait ; not really unfortunately.

  • Why do UberEATS people claim to be delivering the food on a bike, then show up in a car? Are they given more time/pay to deliver or something?

    • no clue. I've had that happen a few times as a customer too.
Mine shows up on the app as a car.

Bike Rides (if they are showing up as a bike) pay a higher commission to Uber but still get paid the same rates.
My first guess would be more pings. I assume that most deliveries can be done via a Bike and Uber assigns them mainly to Bike Riders if the distance is relatively short (I hardly ever get deliveries that are <1.5km in distance)

      • I guess that makes sense - they do more volume but take a slight pay cut.

What is Uber's cut out of your pay?

        • +1

          For cars : 30%
          For motorbikes & bikes : 35%

        • @ubereats00: I think that varies depending on the city and date you signed up. I'm in Brisbane and pay 20% in my car or on my Motorbike and 30% if I were to use my bicycle.

If the rates varied between car/motorbike, wouldn't you think people would log on with a car account but use their motorbike for lesser running costs?

        • @ubereats00:

          holy cow thats a lot

Who do you think would win in a fight, a gang of rabid squirrels or a monkey with a penknife?

    • +1

      wow so randummmm

      • Righto ThithLord

  • Have you ever been unable to find parking and subsequently had an angry (and hungry) customer?

    • +5

Nope. I have parked in some No Stopping Zones just to deliver food.
A bit risky but you gotta risk it for the biscuit.

  • +1

Have you ever added an extra ingredient to regular customers' food you don't like?

    • No, can't say I have. Have never had the same customer twice.

  • +1

Have you ever been tempted to eat the yummy food on the way to the customer (e.g. a chip..or 3)?

    • Very tempted! Very very tempted sometimes when I haven't had dinner yet.

      • Have you eaten any? :D

  • Have you ever had women customers invite you in for sexy time?

    • This has been covered Scab, a disappointing no :(

    • Lol go back to your fantasy land

  • Hi, thanks for sharing. How to register as an UberEat Driver? Thanks

  • Is it better to be an Uber Eats driver than the ordinary Uber driver ?? Income wise? ( perhaps this question is more for those who tried both ??)

  • +1

What are the official rates of pay? Do you get paid a fixed rate per delivery, or per km?

How do you get the deliveriy jobs? Are they sent to you automatically and you have to do what is sent to you? Or do you logon, there is a list of waiting deliveries and you choose what you want?

Does the rate of pay increase if no one has accepted a delivery for a long time or if it's to a far or dangerous location that most people don't want to risk going to?

How many deliveries would you do per hour on a Fri or Sat night?

    • +2

      $5.50 per pickup
      $3.50 per dropoff
      $3.00 per km

Uber then takes a 30% cut.

      Example : 1km delivery.

      Total Fare will be ($5.50 + $3.50 + $3.00) = $12
      Uber will take 30% = 3.60
      I'll get remainder = $8.40

      • So on a basic order (which uber charges customer $5 for delivery) you get paid $8.40? What happens to the difference

        • The restaurant pays ubereats 25-30% commission of the order amount.

  • How much did you pay for the accountant who does your BAS

  • What sort of personal details do they check before you can become a driver? Could you sign up under some fake details and enjoy some free food?
