I'd probably go for one which is a 'known' brand. Which have done some sort or testing/R&D.
I use a nuglass tempered screen protector.
$100 is quite a lot for one, even Zagg, one of the more expensive brands costs less than $50

They based cases off of rumours? As far as I know, Apple don't make their devices in their own factory, they use a third party. If you think leaks are planned releases, then you would be crazy.
