Do You Use a Sandwich Press if So Which One?

Looking at purchasing a cheap but reliable large sandwich press.

Have my targets sighted on this one https://www.target.com.au/p/target-4-slice-sandwich-press-ta…

Any recommendations in this area or products to avoid.

Just really looking for the lowest cost one that won't burn my house down lol.

    • I have the 2 slice version which really only can only make 1 because of the heating element like Harshad has mentuoned. It's lasted a few years so far but doesn't really cook them properly unless you move them around

  • I use the one in the corner cupboard, near the sink. That's all the detail I have sorry.

  • I paid 19 for that target one,it worked great. I ended up giving it to a lady who just got out a domestic violence situation as. I usually make jaffles.

  • First Post! WooHOoo!

    I have one of these:

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/breville-the-toastmelt-sandwi…

got it for a wedding gift in 2004 and its still in perfect condition, if you look after them and just wipe down while
still hot they will last forever.

    • They make very popular wedding gifts, sandwich presses

  • I prefer jaffle makers

But what is the clean up like?

      • Put your sandwich in between baking paper before pressing = no clean up

        • +1

so after pressing, what's the cleanup like? what to do with the baking paper?

      • Well there goes my 5 negs for the day…..

  • I don't think I'll bother getting a sandwich press now. Sounds like there's too much cleaning up with these things

    • so when you get something else, what's the cleanup like?

  • Yeah that one

  • I use this one, cleaning up is a breeze, great build quality too.

  • Looks alright. Is on sale and also says enter code 10OFF to get an extra 10% off, bringing it down to $24.30. Is only 2 slice though I noticed, so it depends what you're after - https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/sunbeam-compact-cafe-grill-gr…

  • No, but I have a jaffle press!

  • I use a breville contact grill to cook steaks as well as as a sandwich press. Multi purpose, big and easy to clean, drip tray.

I think the one I use has been discontinued but this is the latest model (a bit smaller than the one I have)

  • I've had a Sunbeam cafe series sandwich press for 12 years and still going strong, easy to clean and does a great job. You should also have a look at www.productreview.com.au

  • Have a smaller one from K Mart. It was like $15, it is non-stick so easy to clean, I just wipe it with paper towels after use, easy even when cheese spills out. It has been working fine for the two months I have it. When it will stop working, I'll get the same one again. I don't leave it unattended so a house fire isn't really a concern.

I got a Kmart $6 pancake maker more than 3 years ago. It makes rubbish pancakes, but it toasts sandwiches really well.

  • If you want truly delicious toasted sandwiches without forking out for yet another appliance, take out a fry pan (personally I use the griddle variety, tastes better as you get the crispy lines). Then create your perfect sandwich, butter the outsides, heat the pan on high, pull out large saucepan and fill with water, place sandwich in hot fry pan, grab a piece of baking paper, place over sandwich then place saucepan of water on top (acts as the press) flip over the sandwich and repeat for side two when ready. Enjoy. Clean up is the same as using a frying pan.

  • Honestly the only concern you should be worried about is whether or not sandwich fillings pour out over the back and find their way into electricals. This was a problem with pretty much every jaffle maker I had, sandwich presses don't seem to have this issue at all and if you're only wiping them down there shouldn't be any way the teflon is being worn out. I'd say use it 5 years and then throw it out when you feel the teflon is leaching into food (i.e. when flakes or missing spots on the pan can be seen).

Pro tip for tomato: grill the tomatos seperately from the sandwich in the sandwich press then add them to the middle of the sandwich to get rid of the moisture before cooking the entire sandwich.

    • So, whats the cleanup like?

      • +1

I feel like you should ask your mother.

        • Why?

      • There's a reason why you only see folded up towels and no tissue boxes..

This post should be titled "WHAT's THE CLEANUP LIKE?"

    Good work juventino haha

  • Frying pan and a spatula. We got a tefal snack collection for a present and it's pretty good, although any over flow gets into the cracks as the design is a bit weird. Clean up is easy, plates pop off and go in dishwasher or if they're clean I just give them a once over with a paper towel.

  • One of the fifty I have been given as presents over the years. I just wipe it down with paper towel after (melted cheese just lifts straight off), and I give it a soapy scrub and gentle rinse every now and then. It's not like a toasted sarnie maker where crud gets stuck inside of it for years at at time because the griddles are both flat.
