Cheap Sydney Accommodation

Hey people,

I'm looking for some cheap sydney accommodation for the 29th and 30th of this month. were looking at paying maybe 200 or a little bit more per night. i was actually hoping for a bit cheaper, but i dont think it'll happen. i like my apartment rooms to be nice and clean, and have modern furnishings.. including a decent bedspread (not one of those old stained florally type ones that make the room look old.. i prefer the nice white sheets and a nice plain blanket thingy on top for a fresh look). i'd probably like harbour views too. i just wanted some recommendations of which hotels are good at a decent price.

So far ive looked on wotif.. and im even a member of platinum play (coles myer employee loyalty club thing) which usually gets me an extra 10% off compared to wotif. So i guess thats pretty decent.. but there isnt too much variety.. alot seem to be 'booked out'.

A couple of months ago, i joined up to the accor platinum membership thingy http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/29843 (scroll down the page to see someone else put a platinum code up rather than gold).. im not 100% sure what that gets me though. Does that give me room upgrades, cheaper rates and champagne or something on arrival? Has anyone experienced what the platinum membership gets you in Sydney?

Any help would be great.. especially to do with the Accor platinum membership. Thanks

  • The accor platinum thing mainly gives u extra reward points which take ages to add up to something worthwhile. U get a little welcome drink and a small gift like a few fruits in the room. Upgrades are at their discretion n availability. No discounts that I am aware of. The nicer accor hotels are pretty pricey but sometimes they have specials on their site.
Maybe a vibe hotel is what u are after?

  • There is a yha right on the harbour next to sydney harbor bridge which is new n prob has single rooms. Prob best cheap amazing views.

  • Thanks for the suggestions :)

Yeah, i was hoping the accor hotels werent too pricey.. and if you're not guaranteed an upgrade, im not sure i want to even bother.

I have looked at the vibe hotel.. it looks alright but i havent seen so many great reviews about it. Im really after a room thats clean and fresh looking. I cant stand for dirty hotel rooms.

I had a look at the yha.. i wasnt too keen on a hostel place but decided to check out their single rooms. unfotunately the single rooms are booked out, so i wont be sharing my room with people i dont know.

    Any other suggestions?
Ive even been looking at stayz. Can someone recommend a really nice hotel at a decent price?

  • There are quite a lot of accor hotels in Sydney. Some are cheaper n might have specials. Maybe mercure although not sure how nice it is.
Fraser suites are nice but prob expensive. Hilton is newish n nice. Check if they have a special I got the Melbourne Hilton for 150 a night earlier this year on the Hilton site.

Also u could buy discounted accor giftcards on cardlimbo. Think the discount was reasonable like 15-20% n pay with that

  • Cardlimbo defintely sounds like a good idea. Is this definitely a legitimate site? Can you use your platinum accor membership? And can you use this gift card on last minute sites like wotif?

    • card limbo is definitely legit. Have bought from them multiple times this year and if you search through the threads here, other ppl have bought and sold gift cards thru them. Just had a look and the accor giftcards are 24% off.
As accor is a company with many hotels like sofitel, novotel, mercure, formula 1, ibis etc etc I doubt you can use on last minute sites cos they are a separate business and don't u pay wotif directly?
If it is a book via the last minute site and pay the hotel directly, that might work but you might want to call and check with them. Accor used to do last minute specials on their own website. You'd have to check the terms and conditions with the membership but I don't see why u couldn't. Its like paying at myer with giftcards and you still get reward points.

  • Ahh cardlimbo seems like a very good website then! So you just pay the price for the gift card and they mail it out to you free? if i bought one, i'd need the card by next friday.. so id be a bit hesitant.. unless they email you your voucher code?
I think i might give a couple of Accor hotels a call, just to double check on some things.. maybe see if i can bargain with them =)

    • The Accor Gift Cards on Cardlimbo can't be used in conjunction with the Plat membership. I was in the same situation two weeks ago:(

  • awww.. well i'll still consider the cardlimbo site anyway. sounds awesome! Thanks for your info. Any other suggestions on nice hotels around sydney are much appreciated =)

    • for future reference, rydges have great deals if you have time to do home work. similar idea to accor gift cards, rydges gift cards can also save a great deal. have fun in sydney. btw, accor is have a 50% off sale for stays 12/12/10-12/2/11, not a bad deal with the 24% off cardlimbo discount

      • Hmm.. Rydges eh? I might have to have a look at them. I've basically been going by tripadvisor.com.au to help choose my accommodation. At the moment I have friday night booked at the shetaton on the park.. But im still looking for saturday night quite possibly. I would like to stay at sheraton on the park both nights but its almost sold out on saturday night and only expensive rooms are available.
I wish I could take advantage of that accor deal, but I need it for the 30th of october. Anyone know where to get discounted sheraton hotels from.. Maybe a coupon code or something? Im looking for a deal that has not too expensive parking and hopefully a buffet breakfast.
