Google Pixel 32GB Black or White - $799 @ JB Hi-Fi

170

Hi guys, long time listener first time poster.

Just got this deal from JB HI-FI on the new Google pixel phone, the reviews are pretty great and if you want a stock android experience there's nothing better than this, pretty hefty discount but that might be with the Pixel 2 is due soon maybe. I'm pretty sure its a decent deal for the 32GB if you dont need more space, they're around $1200 at telstra.

    1 year is new?

    • I guess it isn't with phones

  • -3

Still do much compared so very market S8, but decent value. I would still buy op5 with 2 years local warranty for less.

    • +7

      Huh?

Attempted translation: "Still too much compared to grey market S8… " ???

      • +1

        Well played!

Typed on my Google pixel with Google autocorrect

    • I dunno what the Oneplus warranty experience is like, but I would much prefer having to deal with Google directly than most other operators. Especially the telcos.

    • Oneplus 5 has a crap camera so cannot compare to Pixel. Even if this is a year old.

Don't buy yet. Still 12 days to go. It's about time Ultimate Kids go on sale at Woolie, and you could get another 14.5% off this price. No guarantee, but worth the wait.

    • +4

@SpottyMoose - we need translation here too if you could help

      • Must be the FDIV bug.

      • Get Woolworths egift card 5% off from Cashrewards etc, then use it to buy Ultimate Kids Card, which can be used to pay for anything in JB HiFi. Ultimate Kids Card are 10% off a few times a year, hopefully happens in next 12 days.

Not sure why my comment got so many down votes. Here's a comparison on the Oneplus and Pixel. Fair enough, the camera is better on the pixel, but only by a bit and the Oneplus wins out.

Same with the LG. I'm not sure where people are coming from on this deal

Given that the Pixel is also the most expensive it's a no brainier.

People downvote you because your opinions differ from theirs. It's the state of how OzB is becoming - Opinion Poll. How dare you talk about Google's prized phone.. or saying the iPhone is no good based on a number of relevant reviews or saying RRP prices on Nostalgic Antique Video games shouldnt belong in a Bargain forum?
The Anonymous Downvotes are killing the forum. Allow the downvotes of comments only if people can demonstrate it. Not to hide behind Anonymity.

      • +1

        Downvoted….. Just kidding!

      • +1

Oh get off the pedestal. People downvoted because carleast negged the deal on illegitimate grounds. Everyone knows other phones exist, and can be cheaper. But there are other factors to consider before outright declaring this a bad deal.

I don't like how the Pixel is bad value, but you don't see me beating everyone else over the head with it.

    • +1

The whole 'which smartphone is better' argument is very subjective, different people have different wants and needs, and therefore what you or some reviewer believe to be the better deal, may not be the case for everyone.

      • -1

Carleast was just offering an alternative based on a better price and newer technology. No need to downvote based on someone who is trying to give other options out there.

        • +1

Newer doesn't always mean better, and better price rarely ever means a better product.

        • @Lorindor: You're not getting the point. Its the fact that Carleast was offering an alternative. You might not agree with whether newer is better, but doesnt mean others dont necessarily see it that way. Some people for example see the Pixel as being an overpriced Google badged ZUK Z2! Everyone has their own opinions about things.
However, downvoting someone who was trying to be constructive by offering an alternative - just not really what the spirit of OZB is about. It's better than those 10 anonymous cowards who downvoted Carleast without an explanation or reason other than not agreeing with his opinion.

        • @bchliu:

Is there even a point to get?

They weren't offering an alternative initially, they were saying that the deal wasn't a deal because there are cheaper alternatives, which is pointless because the same can be said for the majority of products posted on this site.

Comments are downvoted for many reasons, but usually it's because the comment is just plain dribble, and the recycled 'the Pixel is too expensive, here's ten other phones that are cheaper', is getting quite old.

        • @Lorindor: huh?

The new Oneplus 5 can be had for much less than this. This really isn't a good deal. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/326520 Plus the LG G6 can to. Both much newer and better phones for less.

Carleast referenced another deal in their original post. No editing was done. Later followed up with another asking why he got downvoted with more references to back his reasoning.

Which part of this is not offering an alternative?

        • @bchliu:

Which part of this is not offering an alternative?

The part were they offered the alternative alongside the same re-hashed comment that gets posted every time a Pixel deal is submitted on OzB.

        • @Lorindor: Or every iPhone deal, every Samsung deal, every (paste your own brand) deal? Why is there a need to be apologetic towards Pixel (or any other brand/model) deals? People comment with options all the time. Gives other buyers who may have missed out the other deal to make an INFORMED decision.

        • @bchliu:

Again, it's not because they offered an alternative, it's because they offered that alternative on the basis that it is cheaper, and therefore is a better buy, which is totally incorrect and very misleading to those that are genuinely in the market.

Put it this way, it's like if I posted a deal for Apples on sale at Coles, and someone commented saying 'this isn't a deal, because Woolies are selling Oranges for cheaper!', it's redundant.

        • @Lorindor: LOL. Lets run through what Carleast said
          1) Cheaper alternative OnePlus
          2) Newer Alternative (oneplus, G6)
          second post:
          1) Comparatives between Pixel and Oneplus
          2) Comparatives between Pixel and G6

So far I see a lot of whinging about personal preference of the Pixel over OnePlus and G6. But why is Pixel better outside of the fact you think its better because it is more expensive (posting that on a Bargain site)??
Not least of all, you're discounting the claims that the Oneplus is better simply because it is cheaper? When there are a lot of reviews that says otherwise?

        • @bchliu:

But why is Pixel better outside of the fact you think its better because it is more expensive (posting that on a Bargain site)??

Like I said, it doesn't matter why I or anyone else thinks it's better, it's all subjective.

You know it's just a name right? And not every deal posted here has to be a bargain.

Not least of all, you're discounting the claims that the Oneplus is better simply because it is cheaper?

Is that so difficult to comprehend?

Those comparison reviews are conducted purely to cater for those looking for a cheaper alternative, but believe it or not, not everything in life has to be cheap.

        • @Lorindor:

You know it's just a name right? And not every deal posted here has to be a bargain.

LOL.. you kidding me right? This is not free advertising for companies.

Right, this comment alone speaks wonders for your maturity.

Our goal is simple – bringing the best deals and bargains in Australia to consumers.

Key term here, this is currently the best deal available for the Pixel.

Please don't even begin to try to teach me something on why this site exists and why I'm a member of it.

I agree that it's subject to a certain extent but everywhere I've read subjectively concludes that the Oneplus 5 and the LG G6 are better phones for the price. And that's before you account for the fact that the LG G6 is now more heavily discounted than the Pixel.
