What's The Best Smart Watch for under $500

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a smart watch under $500. I use an iPhone 7 plus.

Must have notifications (call,SMS bare minimum).

And preferably with a heart rate monitor.

I've been looking at the Apple Watch but not many recommend it. Any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance.

not many people recommend smart watches

they still aren't doing what they are promoted as doing

I guess it all comes down to what people require

Apple's probably going to release new Apple Watch model this year. At the very least I'd wait until Keynote this year. It's like only 2 days away.

    • Same thoughts myself.
      Cheers!

      • To be honest, I don't think Apple will release a new Watch.
But they might make a new software upgrade that they might announce, like support for Animoji's.

Only problem with Apple Watch, is that its stupidly expensive.
And used ones aren't worth it, because they're scratched etc etc

    buy a Citizen Eco Drive

  • Closed Eco system like Apple has, you are best to have an Apple Watch.

  • Looking at a smart watch but they need two hands to operate compared to phone that needs one. (the arm the watch is worn on plus the hand that is controlling the screen, vs a phone which is held and controlled in one hand (or can be, if a smaller phone).

Has anyone ever made a smartwatch that can be controlled from the wrist that it's worn on (via gestures, or some other way?)

  • Under $500 lol

  • What are the Fossil smartwatches like? I know nothing about them but they look really nice.

  • I reckon the best bang for buck smart watch that fits your requirements "might" be the original Garmin Vivoactive.
You'l need the chest strap for your heartbeat, but its considered still to be the most accurate method.
I've been horrified that they can now be found on gumtree for less than $150.
I've never before been tempted by a digital watch, having worn the same automatic Seiko for approx 40 years, but I love my Vivoactive.
I think the latest version (3rd) is just out and available from highlytunedathletes.com on pre-order for around $450.
I'm happy with my Mk 1.
    The Mk2 doesn't need a chest strap.

They are overpriced rubbish if you ask me. The fitness watches (like the Garmin Vivoactive 1st gen mentioned above, Telstra was selling them for $100 on eBay!) are decent if you want to track your exercise, but smart watches.. no thanks.. put the money into a nice mechanical watch that will last a lifetime.

  • If you want calls, SMS and heart rate I personally love the Apple Watch. I had a Fitbit for years and then my wife found a great deal on the Apple Watch so I thought why not and haven't regretted it since. The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't monitor your sleep like the Fitbit did but overall everything else is great. They would have to fix the battery life before they added that feature anyway.

  • Buy an Apple (the fruit, not the watch). This will save you about $499.
