Budget Android TV Box

Hi guys,
Looking for a budget android tv box, preferably in Australia as I want it within a week. Looking to get apps such as KODI to use it for iptv. My tv does not have 4K, hence it is not needed. Willing to spend up to 100, but the lower the better :)
Thanks in advance.

  • I also dont have a 4k tv so I went with an x96 which are still going for about $50 at their cheapest. I use it for watching tv and movies and I don't regret it. There are higher spec boxes around but why bother when a cheaper one does the job well.

    • How well does it run, any lag? Can it run YouTube and Netflix okay?

      • Yep no problems: youtube, netflix and kodi all run fine. I would strongly suggest taking the money you save in not getting the most expensive box and instead investing in a air mouse/wifi keyboard. Typing with a remote control will make you want to shove it up the back of the box. I just bought one and theyre about 15 bucks at the cheapest from ebay, or you could buy it in a bundle.

        • Good to know. And to be fair, I'm used to typing like that for the YouTube app I have for my rbpi. I have several keyboards lying around too, so should be okay!

Honestly, the Wii U is still probably the best box for YouTube and Netflix. But android has more possibilities and less likely to lose support, so I figure I'll get something like this eventually.

  • anyone know of one with a antenna connection? reason being my tv can't pickup digital signal. just looking for something to tide me over until I can get a new tv.

    • I use a PlayTV with my RPI3 running Kodi for viewing of digital TV.

      • Forgot I even had a Play TV. Is it hard to get it working on pi?

        • Not difficult, im running VDR backend and frontend on a single Rpi3 and it works fine.

        • @CLoSeR: Neato.

  • Xiaomi Mi Box International Edition - simple, easy interface. Android TV looks good and the small remote works well. Android TV apps are limited in number but cover the major ones you need like Kodi.

    • Sorry forgot to mention i want android not android tv. Want it simply because i have the option to get apps not on google play

      • +1

Good call - android TV is good for the basics but you do miss out on the world of apps out there.

  • Why android? Have you considered a Raspberry PI 3 running Kodi OpenELEC?

    Requires.

    -Raspberry Pi3
    -microSD
    -Power Supply
    -HDMI cable

Should be able to get it all for under $100

Use an android app such as Yatse as the remote.

    • Reason being i want other apps like optussport.

  • I have found an old android phone. Is there any way of using it as a set box for the tv?

  • hi,i recomend you this tv box,it is with good quality>

you wont get it in a week but there may be some ebay sellers that are local. make sure the box is 2/16gig not 1/8 or 1/6 as some cheaper ones are.

Note this and the ones mentioned above are Android boxes, not Android TV which is a different OS specifically for TVs and Boxes.
